  • Underground utility tunnels, which contribute to supply of electricity, communication, water and heat, are critical lifelines of an urban area. In case service is discontinued or functional disruption happens, there will be a huge socio-economic impact. For the improved seismic design and evaluation of underground structures, this study proposes a ground displacement measure when the site is subjected to a scenario earthquake based on hazard-consistent source spectra and site amplification/attenuation. This measure provides a rational estimation of ground displacement and can be an alternative to existing response displacement methods.

  • Purpose: This paper proposes a method detecting the falling of a maintenance worker in the underground utility tunnel, by applying deep learning techniques using CCTV video, and evaluates the applicability of the proposed method to the worker monitoring of the utility tunnel. Method: Each rule was designed to detect the falling of a maintenance worker by using the inference results from pre-trained YOLOv5 and OpenPose models, respectively. The rules were then integrally applied to detect worker falls within the utility tunnel. Result: Although the worker presence and falling were detected by the proposed model, the inference results were dependent on both the distance between the worker and CCTV and the falling direction of the worker. Additionally, the falling detection system using YOLOv5 shows superior performance, due to its lower dependence on distance and fall direction, compared to the OpenPose-based. Consequently, results from the fall detection using the integrated dual deep learning model were dependent on the YOLOv5 detection performance. Conclusion: The proposed hybrid model shows detecting an abnormal worker in the utility tunnel but the improvement of the model was meaningless compared to the single model based YOLOv5 due to severe differences in detection performance between each deep learning model

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate properly reliability of underground distribution system taking into account domestic circumstance. Interruption time and number of interruption customer by distribution system based on actual condition in domestic utility are considered as important index to estimate reliability of underground distribution system. This paper presents algorithm to evaluate reliability of underground distribution system by using a model system as new urban area. Evaluation results which is established are shown in detail according to whether automatic system is introduced or not.

  • The use of underground transmission cables has increased continuously in densely inhabited urban and suburban for power transmission. Two or more transmission lines are outgoing from one substation in many cases, and one line comprises twin circuits. In order to meet the increasing do and for electric power, underground tables of two or fore circuits are installed in ducts in parallel for several kilometer in the same route. It, however, has not been known generally that the sheath circulating current is generated in a system where a large number of cables are laid on the same route. Therefore, this paper describes an improved analysis method for sheath circulating current on underground transmission cables using EMTP. Author propose several methods to reduce sheath circulating current. The analysing method and reduction methods for two or more underground cables will be really improved for cable system utility.

  • Common utility tunnel is essential to the daily lives of people underground utilities (electricity, gas and supply facilities such as water, communication facilities, sewer facilities, etc.) to improve the appearance by co-acceptance and disaster prevention, important for the conservation of the city's population was concentrated road construction the city-based facilities. There is recognition of the importance of the various supply treatment facilities in common utility tunnel as infrastructure to accommodate joint according to the city expanded, the demand for infrastructure. In this paper, a cost-benefit analysis using a one-time occurrence, without simply relying on cost or current cost, project manager for the city-dimensional feasibility study conducted, the user level of the maintenance costs and user costs, including social costs items from various angles can be investigated and proposed a mechanism of economic feasibility common utility tunnel. Evaluation of the proposed technique is cost-benefit and cost caused by installing common utility tunnel the existing pipeline area - was investigated by the benefit analysis, extended and repeated common utility tunnel installation depends much affected by the excavation, so users of reducing the number of repeat excavation convenience can be seen that this occurs.

  • As the use of GIS becomes more widespread, the quality and source of data is becoming more of a concern among users. But accuracy is a component of quality, and the positional accuracy is a component of total accuracy. If only we consider the positional accuracy, simultaneously collecting technology of location and attribute information, whether it be manually, using conventional surveying method, GPS, or remote sensing, is a practical way of insuring that location and attribute information are correctly correlated. This study analyse the positional accuracy from a view-point of user and supplier, which is the considerations that can ensure quality level and continuously maintain the road and underground utility information. The positional accuracy of road and underground utility information are considered as two categories - expected accuracy of data collection procedure, required accuracy of data usage process. And the project manager must consider the cost/benefit view of data generation in order to determine the surveying method.
