  • In this paper, we address a novel system-level power management technique which is specifically targeted for an ARM 11 MPCore system. Our proposed solution is a DPM technique which includes process monitoring, real time power analysis, and policy application to reduce the power consumption while meeting the performance requirement. One of the main contributions of this paper is that we systematically infer QoS requirements of processes without getting any additional information from the application. When multiple processes are running under various user level policies, priorities of the policy application are determined in such a way that the overall system performance is maintained while power consumption is effectively managed. Experimental results show that our DPM technique is very effective in reducing power consumption without violating system's QoS requirements.

  • In this paper, the effects of vehicle loads on flat slab system are investigated based on the previous studies on beam-girder parking structural system. The influence surfaces of flat slab for typical design section are determined for the purpose of obtaining member forces under vehicle loads. In addition, the equivalent vehicle load factors for flat slab parking structures are suggested using neural network. It has been found that vehicle load effects of flat slab system are dominant for the center positive moment in both column and middle strip, as like beam-girder parking structural system.

  • Modern telecommunication switching systems are SPC(Stored Program Control) machines handling voice, data and other kinds of traffic, in an environment which tends to be fully digital switching and transmission. The throughput of such systems is determined by the real time capacity of its centralized or distributed control processors and by the traffic capacity of the switching network. Designers must verify the traffic and call processing capacity of the switching system and check its performance under traffic load before it is put into service. Verification of traffic and call processing capacity of switching systems is one of the problems treated by teletraffic studies ; teletraffic studies are based on stochastic process, queueing theory, simulations and other quantitative methods of decision making. This study suggests the general methodology to evaluate the throughput and performance of the ISDN switching system. TDX-10 ISDN switching system are employed to give illustrative examples of the methodologies discussed in this study.

  • Insulating a heat from the environment is the most important in cryogenic applications like HTS cable system. Vacuum and MLI(Multi-Layer Insulation) have been widely used to get highly efficient cryogenic insulation. In this study, experiment on annular cylinder regarded as basic model of HTS cable cryostat has been performed to measure the heat loads. To investigate the effectiveness of radiation shields in cryogenic insulation system, the experiments are carried out to various number of the shields. The measured values are compared with the results estimated theoretically. The heat loads invaded from the environment was determined by liquid nitrogen boil-off calorimetry.

  • The geometric size and the refrigeration capacity of a refrigeration system are strongly dependent on the capacity of heat exchanger, which is one of the key design parameters. In this paper, the effect of the capacities of heat exchangers on the performance of a real refrigeration system operated in a vapor compression cycle was analyzed by the numerical simulation. From the results, the conditions that gave the maximum values of the refrigeration capacity or COP were respectively determined as a function of the capacities of condenser and evaporator under the given ambient and operating condition.

  • This paper proposes a method for real-time control of both capacitors and ULTC in a distribution system to reduce the total power loss and to improve the voltage profile over the course of a day. The multi-stage consists of the off-line stage to determine dispatch schedule based on a load forecast and the on-line stage generates the time and control sequences at each sampling time. It is then determined whether one of the control actions in the control sequence is performed at the present sampling time. The proposed method is presented for a typical radial distribution system with a single ULTC and capacitors.

  • When a force impulse acting on a massive and plex object is measured with a dynamometer, be resonant vibration of the measurement system often leads to serious inaccuracies. A more accurate measurement is obtained when the transfer function ,of the object-dynamometer system is used to compensate for the error in the dynamometer's output signal. The natural frequency and the damping coefficient of the transfer function are estimated by analyzing the waveform of the free damped vibration period after the loading of the force has ended. The residue of the system is determined such that the compensated force spectrum becomes smooth within a neighborhood of the natural frequency. The effectiveness of this signal processing method is experimentally tested on a hammer impulse, under the assumption that the hammer's high resonant frequency accurately models the problems encountered in force impact measurement. The compensation method is used to derive a improved estimate of the hammer impulse.

  • Developed was a 5kW-class polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) system comprised of fuel cell stack, fuel processing, thermal and water management subsystems and ancillary equipments. Several large single cells have been fabricated with different gas flow field patterns and paths, and the gas flow field pattern for the stack has been determined based on the single cell performance of thin film membrane electrode assembly (MEA). The PEMFC stack was consisted of 100 cells with an electrode area of $300cm^2$, having serpentine flow pattern. Fuel processing was developed including an autothermal methanol reformer and two preferential CO oxidation reactors. The fuel processing was combined to PEMFC operation system consisted of air compressor and thermal and water management subsystems. The PEMFC stack showed performance of 5kW under the supply of $H_2$ and air, but its performance was lowered to 3.5kW under the supply of reformed gas.

  • The induction motor is widely used in the power equipments of the ship and the various industrial drive applications because it is robust and relatively simple and cheap to manufacture, but it has a disadvantage that the speed of induction motor is not controlled in wide range such as d.c motor. In this paper, the characteristics relating to the Kramer system that the speed of three phase wound type induction motor is controlled by changing the exciting e.m.f. of the secondary circuit is described. In order to analyze the characteristics, a new simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit from the Kramer circuit with three phase graetz connection and d.c machine is proposed. The stator current, motor torque and mechanical output power are computed by the current, torque and power equations derived by its equivalent circuit. Through the experiments, the $I_f-N$, torque-slip and current-slip characteristic curves of the tested motor are obtained and the various needed constants are determined. The numerical values obtained from the above method are compared with experimental values under the same conditions. As a result of the above investigation, it is found that the induction motor speed by the Kramer system is controlled by 28 per cent under the rated speed by changing the field current of d.c motor and the values computed by the current and torque equations derived by the simplified and approximated T-type equivalent circuit generally come to approach the experimental values.

  • The paper studies the fluid flow profile contained between the orthotropic plate and rigid wall under the action of the moving load on the plate and main attention is focused on the fluid velocity profile in the load moving direction. It is assumed that the plate material is orthotropic one and the fluid is viscous and barotropic compressible. The plane-strain state in the plate and the plane flow of the fluid is considered. The motion of the plate is described by utilizing the exact equations of elastodynamics for anisotropic bodies, however, the flow of the fluid by utilizing the linearized Navier-Stokes equations. For the solution of the corresponding boundary value problem, the moving coordinate system associated with the moving load is introduced, after which the exponential Fourier transformation is employed with respect to the coordinate which indicates the distance of the material points from the moving load. The exact analytical expressions for the Fourier transforms of the sought values are obtained, the originals of which are determined numerically. Presented numerical results and their analyses are focused on the question of how the moving load acting on the face plane of the plate which is not in the contact with the fluid can cause the fluid flow and what type profile has this flow along the thickness direction of the strip filled by the fluid and, finally, how this profile changes ahead and behind with the distance of the moving load.
