In this study, a mode analysis of uncoupled system was discussed using FRF. The eigen-mode range of FRF analysis is consistent with conventional FFT in spectrum. Also, the numerical response of second order uncoupled system was obtained using the Runge-Kutta Gill method. The displacement, velocity and acceleration response were calculated after numerical analysis and its response was used for the calculation of FRF for uncoupled system. Using the separated and mixed response of 1st and 2nd mode in example, its FRF was analysed for the prediction of the uncoupled systems and its mode shape was calculated by solving the eigen problem.

The analytical realization of uncoupled system was introduced in this study using times series and its spectrum analysis. The ARMAX spectra of time series methods were compared with the conventional FFT spectrum. Also, the response of second order system uncoupled was solved using the Runge-Kutta Gill method. In this numerical analysis, the displacement, velocity and acceleration were calculated. The displacement response among them was used for the power spectrum analysis. The ARMAX algorithm in time series was proved to be appropriate for the mode estimation and spectrum analysis. Using the separate response of first and second mode, each modes were calculated separately and the response of mixed modes was also analyzed for the mode estimation using several time series methods.
Increasing numbers of floating offshore wind turbines are planned and designed these days due to their high potential in massive generation of clean energy from water depth deeper than 50 m. In the present study, a numerical prediction tool has been developed for the fully-coupled dynamic analysis of FOWTs in time domain including aero-blade-tower dynamics and control, mooring dynamics, and platform motions. In particular, the focus of the present study is paid to the dynamic coupling between the rotor and floater and the coupled case is compared against the uncoupled case so that their dynamic coupling effects can be identified. For this purpose, a mono-column mini TLP with 1.5MW turbine for 80m water depth is selected as an example. The time histories and spectra of the FOWT motions and accelerations as well as tether top-tensions are presented for the given collinear wind-wave condition. When compared with the uncoupled analysis, both standard deviations and maximum values of the floater-responses/tower-accelerations and tether tensions are appreciably increased as a result of the rotor-floater dynamic coupling, which may influence the overall design including fatigue-life estimation especially when larger blades are to be used.

A numerical comparison or predictions by limit equilibrium analysis and 3n analysis is presented for slope/pile system. Special attention is given to the coupled analysis based on the explicit-finite-difference code, FLAC. To this end, an internal routine (FISH) was developed to calculate a factor of safety for a pile-reinforced slope according to shear strength reduction technique. The case of coupled analyses was performed for stabilizing piles in slope in which the pile response and slope stability are considered simultaneously and subsequently the factors of safety are compared to uncoupled analysis (limit equilibrium analysis) solution for a homogeneous slope. Based on a limited parametric study, it is shown that in the free-head condition the factor of safety in slope is more conservative for a coupled analysis than for an uncoupled analysis and a definitely larger value represents when piles are installed in the middle of the slopes and are restrained in the pile head.

Seismic responses due to the dynamic coupling between a primary structure and secondary system connected to a structure are analyzed in this study. The seismic responses are compared based on dynamic coupling criteria and according to the error level in the natural frequency, with the recent criteria being reliant on the error level in the spectral displacement response. The acceleration responses and relative displacement responses of a primary structure and a secondary system for a coupled model and two different decoupled models of two degrees-of-freedom system are calculated by means of the time integration method. Errors in seismic responses of the uncoupled models are reduced with the recent criteria. As the natural frequency of the secondary system increases, error in the natural frequency decreases, but seismic responses of uncoupled models can be underestimated compared to that of coupled model. Results in this paper can help determine dynamic coupling and predict uncoupled models' response conservatism.

This paper presents an analysis of the design hypothesis of integration of parts from the viewpoint of axiomatic design. In parts integration, parts with the same functions are integrated into a single part. For the analysis, a motor actuator of an outside rear-view mirror with the type of an uncoupled design was used. The parts within the actuator are checked for determining the possibility of integration, by adopting the design hypothesis of integration of parts. The design hypothesis of integration of parts is based on a type of coupled design. However, the type of incomplete coupled design that resembles the type of an uncoupled design would be better than the type of a coupled design.

The circular cylinder pipes are used in the many industrial areas. In this paper, the acoustic wave propagation in the pipe containing a gas is researched. First of all, the theory for the coupled acoustic wave propagation in a pipe is investigated. Acoustic wave propagation in pipe can not be occurred independently between the wave of the fluid and the shell. It requires complicated analysis. However, as a special case, the coupled wave in a high density pipe containing a light density medium is corresponded closely to the uncoupled in-vacuo shell waves and to the rigid-walled duct fluid waves. The coincidence frequencies of acoustic and shell modes contribute to the predominant energy transmission. The coincidence frequency means the frequency corresponding to the coincidence of the wavenumber in both acoustic and shell. In this paper, it is assumed that the internal medium is much lighter than the pipe shell. After the uncoupled acoustic wave in the internal medium and uncoupled shell wave are considered, the coincidence frequencies are found. The analysis is successfully confirmed by the verification of the experiment using the real long steel pipe. This work verifies that the coupled wave characteristic of the shell and the fluid is occurred as predominant energy transmission at the coincidence frequencies.
The effect of soil-structure interaction on a simple single storeyed and two bay space frame resting on a pile group embedded in the cohesive soil (clay) with flexible cap is examined in this paper. For this purpose, a more rational approach is resorted to using the three dimensional finite element analysis with realistic assumptions. The members of the superstructure and substructure are descretized using 20 node isoparametric continuum elements while the interface between the soil and pile is modeled using 16 node isoparametric interface elements. Owing to viability in terms of computational resources and memory requirement, the approach of uncoupled analysis is generally preferred to coupled analysis of the system. However, an interactive analysis of the system is presented in this paper where the building frame and pile foundation are considered as a single compatible unit. This study is focused on the interaction between the pile cap and underlying soil. In the parametric study conducted using the coupled analysis, the effect of pile spacing in a pile group and configuration of the pile group is evaluated on the response of superstructure. The responses of the superstructure considered include the displacement at top of the frame and moments in the superstructure columns. The effect of soil-structure interaction is found to be quite significant for the type of foundation used in the study. The percentage variation in the values of displacement obtained using the coupled and uncoupled analysis is found in the range of 4-17 and that for the moment in the range of 3-10. A reasonable agreement is observed in the results obtained using either approach.

Dynamic load models which show the practical behavior of truss bridge subjected to moving train load are presented. Three basically approaches are available for evaluating structural response to dynamic effects : moving force, moving mass, and influence moving force and mass. Simple warren truss bridge model is selected in this research, and idealized lumped mass system, modelled as a planar structure. In the process of dynamic analysis, the uncoupled equation of motion is derived from simultaneous equation of the motion of truss bridge and moving train load. The solution of the uncoupled equations of motion is solved by Newmark-$\beta$ method. The results show that dynamic response of moving mass and static analysis considering the impact factor specified in the present railway bridge code was nearly the same. Generally, the dynamic response of moving force is somewhat greater than that of moving mass. The dynamic load models which are presented by this study are obtained relatively adequate load model when apply to a truss bridge.

Interactive computer-aided analysis of mechanical systems has recently been undergoing an evolution due to highly efficient computer graphics. The industrial implementation of state-of-the-art analytical developments in mechanisms has been facilitated by computer-aided design packages because these rigid-body mechanism analysis programs dramatically reduce the time required for linkage design. This paper proposes a component modular approach to computeraided kinematic motion analysis for general planar multiloop mechanisms. Most multiloop mechanisms can be decomposed into serveral components. The kinematic properties (position, velocity, and acceleration) of every node can then be determined from the kinematic analysis of the corresponding component modules by a closed-form solution procedure. In this paper, 8 types of modules are defined and formulations for kinematic analysis of the component modules are derived. Then a computer-aided kinematic analysis program is developed using the proposed approach and the solution procedure of an example shows the effectiveness and accuracy on the approach.
