A Probabilistic Approach to Quantifying Uncertainties in the In-vessel Steam Explosion During Severe Accidents at a Nuclear Power Plant

  • The uncertainty analysis for the in-vessel steam explosion during severe accidents at a nuclear power plant is performed using a probabilistic approach. This approach consists of four steps; 1) screening, 2) quantification of uncertainty 3) propagation of uncertainty, and 4) output analysis. And the specific methods which satisfy the sub-objectives of each step are prepared and presented. Compared with existing ones, the unique feature of this approach is the improved estimation of uncertainties through quantification, which ensures the defensibility of the resultant failure probability distributions. Using the approach, the containment failure probability due to in-vessel steam explosion is calculated. The results of analysis show that 1) pour diameter is the most dominant factor and slug condensed phase fraction is the least and 2) fraction of core molten is the second most dominant factor, which is identified as distinct feature of this study as compared with previous studies.

Stochastic design charts for bearing capacity of strip footings

  • Traditional design methods of bearing capacity of shallow foundations are deterministic in the sense that they do not explicitly consider the inherent uncertainty associated with the factors affecting bearing capacity. To account for such uncertainty, available deterministic methods rather employ a fixed global factor of safety that may lead to inappropriate bearing capacity predictions. An alternative stochastic approach is essential to provide a more rational estimation of bearing capacity. In this paper, the likely distribution of predicted bearing capacity of strip footings subjected to vertical loads is obtained using a stochastic approach based on the Monte Carlo simulation. The approach accounts for the uncertainty associated with the soil shear strength parameters: cohesion, c, and friction angle, ${\phi}$, and the cross correlation between c and ${\phi}$. A set of stochastic design charts that assure target reliability levels of 90% and 95%, are developed for routine use by practitioners. The charts negate the need for a factor of safety and provide a more reliable indication of what the actual bearing capacity might be.

  • ERA PD measuring system has been using for partial discharge evaluation of power appratus in test laboratories. So, the measurement uncertainty of PD measuring system (ERA), such as PD pulse calibrator rise and fall time, sacle factor(k) and linearity, transfer impedance etc, is very important factor of test result in test laboratory. In this paper, we describe tracebility and uncertainty improvement of PD measuring system in test laboratory based on IEC 60270.

장대교량 타입말뚝에 대한 저항계수 산정 (Resistance Factor Calculation of Driven Piles of Long Span Bridges)

  • 하중저항계수설계법(load and resistance factor design, LRFD)을 개발하기 위해서는 하중과 저항에 대한 신뢰성 있는 불확실성 평가가 필요하다. 기존의 말뚝기초 저항계수 산정에 관한 연구는 대부분 일반 교량에 대한 하중의 불확실성을 반영하였다. 본 연구에서는 경간장이 200m이상 300m이하인 교량과 300m이상 1500m이하인 장대 교량에 대하여 수정된 하중모델로부터 평가된 활하중 불확실성을 저항계수 산정에 반영하였다. 타입말뚝 저항을 예측하기 위하여 Imperial College Pile (ICP) 설계법을 사용하였고, 이 설계법을 적용하여 사질토 및 점성토 지반에 대한 타입 말뚝의 저항 불확실성을 평가하였다. 일반 교량에 비하여 장대교량의 경우 파괴시 발생되는 경제적, 인명적 손실이 크기 때문에 기존에 적용한 일반적인 목표신뢰수준을 더 높게 설정하였다. 장대교량에 해당하는 수정된 하중 및 목표신뢰 수준에 대하여 산정된 저항계수와 기존에 일반 교량 기초에 대하여 제시된 저항계수를 비교 분석하였다.

AAS 및 ICP-AES에 의한 조제분유 중 칼슘 함량 분석의 측정불확도 산정 (Quantifying Uncertainty of Calcium Determination in Infant Formula by AAS and ICP-AES)

  • 건식분해에 의한 AAS법과 습식분해에 의한 ICP법을 이용하여 조제분유 중 칼슘 함량을 측정하는 과정중의 측정불확도를 비교산정하기 위하여 분석결과에 영향을 주는 불확도 인자를 파악하고 각각의 불확도를 계산하였다. 계산은 GUM(Guide to the expression of Uncertainty in Measurement)과 Draft EURACHEMCITAC Guide에 근거한 수학적 계산 및 통계처리 방법에 의해 처리하였다. AAS에 의한 칼슘 측정시 uncertainty source로서 시료의 무게, 시료의 최종전량, 시료의 희석 그리고 기기에 의한 측정결과값 등이 작용하였다. Uncertainty source의 개별구성요소인 uncertainty component는 저울의 안정성, 분해능, 재현성, 표준액의 순도, 분자량, 농도, 표준액 희석 및 시료의 희석, 검정선, 회수율 그리고 분석기기의 정밀성, 재현성 및 안정성 등이 작용하였으며 A type 또는 B type으로 불확도를 산정하였다. ICP에 의한 칼슘 측정시 uncertainty souce와 component는 시료의 희석부분을 제외하고 AAS와 동일하게 작용하였다. 칼슘함량과 측정불확도가 보장된 인증표준물질인 Infant Formula SRM 1846을 사용하여 칼슘함량을 측정한 결과 AAS법에 의한 결과값과 ICP법에 의한 결과값은 각각 $359.52{\pm}23.61\;mg/100g$, $354.75{\pm}16.16mg/100g$으로 측정되었다. 2가지 방법 모두 인증 값인 칼슘함량 $367{\pm}20mg/100g$의 범위내로 측정되었으며, CRM에서 보장된 균일성과 실험오차를 고려하면 유사한 결과가 산출되었음을 알 수 있다(p<0.05). 측정불확도를 시험담당자가 시험수행시마다 파악하고 계산하기란 시간적, 인력적 제약과 업무효율적 측면에서 현실적으로 어려운 점이 많다. 그러나, 본 연구에서와 같이 시험과정 중의 분석오차 발생인자를 파악하고 최종 시험결과에 미치는 영향정도를 산출하여 그 인자들을 최소화하여야 할 것으로 사료된다. 즉, 측정불확도는 불확도인자 설정과 계산에 있어서 다양한 방법이 제시될 수 있으므로 수치화된 결과값 그 자체보다는 표준시약의 소급성 유지, 시험기구의 교정 관리, 시험실 환경 관리, 분석기기의 최적상태 유지 및 개인숙련도 향상 등과 같은 노력을 통해 시험결과의 품질을 최상으로 유지하는 척도로 활용되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Perceived Uncertainty and Perceived Usefulness of Intranet in the Restaurant Franchise Industry

  • The restaurant franchise industry is one that could benefit significantly from the use of intranet technology, from its potential for improving communications between franchisors and franchisees, to providing easier inventory and ordering processes. However, there is a level of trepidation among potential users about whether the technology would improve their work performance. This study sought to examine the relationships between perceived uncertainty and perceived usefulness of intranet technology in the restaurant franchise industry. Through a review of available literature, 10 sub-dimensions of perceived uncertainty (Duncan, 1972) and six sub-dimensions of perceived usefulness (Davis, 1989) were derived. Canonical correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships between these concepts using data collected from 163 franchising restaurant managers in South Korea. Findings from the data analysis demonstrates two negative factors and one positive factor in perceived uncertainty that influence perceived usefulness, thus offering some implications of what to consider when implementing an intranet system in a restaurant franchise.

고정밀 공작기계의 열적효과 측정 및 불확도 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Effects Measurement and Uncertainty Estimation for High Precision Machine Tools)

  • When the main spindle of high precision machine tools are run many hours, heat is generated in bearing parts of the inside of the spindle. Also, headstock is appeared distortion by inside and outside temperature difference of a machine. This paper studies method to measure behavior of machine tool about these thermal effects. In addition, it estimates measurement uncertainty factors which can be appeared in thermal effects measurement. Finding the factor of thermal affect measurement is important for estimation of measurement uncertainty. This paper measures thermal effects of high precision machine tools and evaluates the important factors of uncertainty.

  • The speed and power performance of a ship is not only a guarantee issue between the ship owner and the ship-yard, but also is related with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) regulation. Recently, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the procedure of the measurement and assessment for ship speed and power at sea trial. The results of speed and power performance measured in actual sea condition must inevitably include various uncertainty factors. In this study, the influence for systematic error of shaft power measurement system was examined using the Monte Carlo simulation. It is found that the expanded uncertainty of speed and power performance is approximately ${\pm}1.2%$ at the 95% confidence level(k=2) and most of the uncertainty factor is attributed to shaft torque measurement system.

정적법을 이용한 중진공 국가표준기 개발 (Development of a national medium vacuum standard by static expansion method)

  • 부피가 다른 세 개의 진공용기를 조합하여 정적법 (static expansion method)을 이용한 중진공영역의 국가표준기를 개발하였다. 이 장치를 이용하여 133pa 범위의 용량형 진공게이지 (capacitance diaphragm gauge)를 교정하여 국제표준화기구의 측정불확도 표현지침에 따라 분석하였다. 그 결과 표준압력 0.553Pa에서의 확장불확도 (expanded uncertainty)가 95% 신뢰수준 (confidence level), 포함인자 (coverage factor) k=2에서 $2.628\times10^{-3}Pa$로 우수한 성능을 보였다.

위험감수와 충동성 및 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족의 관련성 (The Relationship between Risk Taking, Impulsivity and Intolerance of Uncertainty)

  • Objectives Risk taking has been implicated in the development of various psychiatric disorders. Previous studies have indicated that risk taking behavior is associated with high levels of impulsiveness. Risk taking entail uncertain situation that outcome probability is unknown. This study tested impulsivity, intolerance of uncertainty and risk taking behavior. Methods A total of 73 participants completed a test battery comprised of the UPPS-P scale as a psychometric measurement of five dimensions of impulsivity, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, and Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART) as a behavioral measure of risk taking. The Pearson correlation analysis was used. Results The sensation seeking factor was positively correlated with BART measure (r = 0.27, p = 0.02). Specifically, the relationship between sensation seeking and BART was significant in females. Conclusions Among the five factors of UPPS-P, only the sensation seeking factor predicts risk taking propensity.
