  • Diesel autothermal reforming (ATR) is a chemical process to produce hydrogen for fuel cell applications. Several previous studies were carried out to identify technical issues in diesel reforming. It is hard to vaporize diesel due to its high boiling points. Liquid droplets of diesel result in inhomogeneous fuel mixing with other reactants such as $O_2\;and\;H_2O$, which leads to reduce the reforming efficiency and make undesired coke in reactor. To solve the fuel delivery issue, we applied an ultrasonic device as a fuel injection system. Ultrasonic injector (UI) remarkably enhanced the reforming efficiency. This paper will present the reforming results using UI. And we will discuss about atomization effects of diesel on autothermal reforming reaction.

  • Bio-diesel oil is a great possibility to solve the pollution problem caused by the exhaust gas from diesel engine vehicles. Recently the use of bio-oils in disel engines has received considerable attention to the forseeable depletion of world oil supplies. So, Bio-diesel oil has been attracted with attentions as an alternative and clean energy source. The objective of this paper is to experimentally investigate the characteristic of performance using light oil, rice-bran oil, heated rice-bran oil, rice-bran oil treated with ultrasonic energy. We included rice-bran oil and applied ultrasonic energy to highly viscous bio-oils. These methods seems to have never been tried yet. The final data may be able to be applicated for the design of the diesel engine using an alternative fuel.

  • The West Stone Pagoda at Gameunsaji Temple Site constructed in the 7th century is mainly composed of dark grey dacitic tuff bearing small numerous dioritic xenoliths. These xenoliths resulted in small holes due to differential weathering process from the host rocks. Physical strength of the pagoda was decreased due to weathering and damage caused by petrological, biological and coastal environmental factors. The southeastern part of the pagoda was extremely deteriorated that the rock surface showed exfoliation, fracture, open cavity, granular decomposition of minerals and salt crystallization by seawater spray from the eastern coast. The stone blocks were intersected by numerous cracks and contaminated by subsequent material such as cement mortar and iron plates. Also, the pagoda was colonized by algae, fungi, lichen and bryophytes on the roof rock surface and the gaps between the blocks. As a result of ultrasonic test, the rock materials fell under Highly Weathered Grade (HW) or Completely Weathered Grade (CW). Thus, conservational intervention is essentially required to prevent further weakening of the rock materials.

  • Indium-nitrogen co-doped zinc oxide thin films (INZO) were prepared on glass substrates in the atmosphere by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The aqueous solution of zinc acetate, ammonium acetate and different indium sources: indium (III) chloride and indium (III) nitrate were used as the precursors. After film deposition, different anneal temperature treatment as 350, 450, $550^{\circ}C$ were applied. Electrical properties as concentration and mobility were characterized by Hall measurement. The surface morphology and crystalline quality were characterized by SEM and XRD. With the activation energy analysis for both films, the concentration variation of the films at different heat treatment temperature was realized. Donors correspond to zinc related states dominate the conduction mechanism for these INZO films after $550^{\circ}C$ high temperature heat treatment process.

  • Zinc oxide (ZnO) films deposited on indium (In) films were post-annealed in a rapid thermal anealing (RTA) system. The ZnO/In films were RTA-treated in air or a vacuum ambient. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were studied before and after the RTA by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The resistivity variation of the films with RTA temperature and time was measured by the 4-point probe method. Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) was carried out to figure out the redistribution of indium atoms in the ZnO films. The resistivity of the ZnO/In films decreased to 2$\times$10$\^$-3/ Ωcm by diffusion of the In. The In diffusion into the ZnO films roughened the surface of ZnO films. The results of depth profile by AES showed a hump of In atoms around ZnO/In interface after the RTA at 800 $\^{C}$. The effects of temperature time and ambient during the RTA on the structural and electrical properties of the ZnO/In films were discussed.

  • The influence of deposition parameter on the electrical, optical andsurface morphology of $SnO_2(:F)$ films prepared by ultrasonic spray deposition using DBDA and $SnCl_4.5H_2O$ as a source material was studied. Resistivity was decreased sharply with increasing F/Sn ratio in solution up to 0.6. Depending on the source material, $SnCl_4.5H_2O$ shows lower resistivity than DBDA. When F/Sn ratio in solution was 1, optical transmittance was higher DBDA than $SnCl_4.5H_2O$.

  • Transparent conductive aluminum-doped ZnO(AZO) films Were prepared by a ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method at the substrate temperature below 23$0^{\circ}C$. A vertical type hot wall furnace was used as a reactor in the deposition system. Zinc acetate dissolved in methanol was selected as a precursor. The substrate temperature was varied from 18$0^{\circ}C$to 24$0^{\circ}C$. Aluminum (Al) was doped into ZnO films by incorporating anhydrous aluminum chloride (AlCl$_3$) in the zinc acetate solution. The proportion of the Al in the starting solution was varied from 0 wt % to 3.0 wt %. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The resistivity of the films was measured by the Van der Pauw method, and the mobility and carrier concentration were obtained through the Hall effect measurements Transmittance was measured in the visible region. The effects of substrate temperature and aluminum content in the starling solution on the structural and electrical properties of the AZO films are discussed

  • Real-time formation of $L1_0$ phase of FePt nanoparticles in the gas phase during ultrasonic-spray pyrolysis is first discussed in the present study. Without any post heat treatment, $L1_0$ phase of FePt nanoparticles appeared at the temperature above $900^{\circ}C$ in the gas phase synthesis. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies revealed that FePt nanoparticles less than 10 nm in size contained small volume of $L1_0$ fct phase. However, in other samples obtained at the temperature below $900^{\circ}C$, iron oxide phase co-existed and no evidence of phase transformation was found. Thus, it is anticipated that the time of flight of particles required for crystallization and phase transformation was extended according to the increase of the collision rate. Finally, magnetic properties represented by coercivity and saturation magnetization and functional groups on the particle surface were discussed based on VSM and FT-IR results.

  • Spherical shape $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor particles with the mean particle size from submicron to micron sizes were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. A droplet separator was introduced to control the size distribution of the phosphor particles with spherical shape. The $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn$ phosphor particles with 2 mol% doping concentration of manganese have decay time and have photoluminescence intensities comparable with those of the latest commercial product prepared by the solid state reaction method. The size of the phosphor particles was decreased from 1 to 0.2 micrometers as the inorganic salt solution concentration was changed from 0 to 5 M. The phosphor particles prepared from the solutions above 0.5 M have photoluminescence intensities comparable with that of the latest commercial product.
