  • Parametric studies have been conducted into the variability of the factors affecting the ultrasonic testing applied to weldments. The influence of ultrasonic equipment, transducer parameters, test technique, job parameters, defect type and characteristics on reliability far defect detection and sizing was investigated by experimentation. The investigation was able to build up substantial bank of information on the reliability of manual ultrasonic method for testing weldments. The major findings of the study separate into two parts, one dealing with correlation between ultrasonic techniques, equipment and defect parameters and inspection performance effectiveness and other with human factors. Defect detection abilities are dependent on the training, experience and proficiency of the UT operators, the equipment used, the effectiveness of procedures and techniques.

  • Ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) is an example of a nanoscale-surface modification that has become noticeable because of its effects on the mechanical improvement of metallic materials. UNSM equipment needs to be both utilized and improved. The equipment is based on an ultrasonic waveguide whose role is to strike surfaces of metallic materials to achieve nanoscale deformation. In this paper, we introduce the development of one kind of UNSM equipment. Using piezoelectric elements, we repeatedly design and fabricate a 20-kHz ultrasonic waveguide. With respect to the composition of the equipment, the waveguide is automatically transferred by two axial stages automatically. In addition, a static force is constantly applied by pneumatic devices. We perform an experiment to verify the feasibility of the equipment.

  • Recently, LG chemical corporation developed new material called HYPERIER, which has an excellent barrier characteristic. It has many layers which are made of nano-composite within LDPE(Low-Density Poly Ethylene). In order to guarantee the quality of the final product from the production line, a certain test equipment is required to investigate the existence of layers inside the HYPERIER. In this work, ultrasonic sensor based test equipment for investigating the existence of inner layers is proposed. However, it is a tedious job for human operators to check the existence by just looking at the resounding waveform from ultrasonic sensor. Therefore, to enhance the performance of the ultrasonic test equipment, wavelet and PCA(Principle Componet Analysis) schemes are introduced into neural network scheme which is used for classification. To verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme, some experiments are executed.

  • As a result of measuring and evaluating 24 units of 10 types of medical ultrasonic equipment in Gwangju using the multipurpose ultrasonic phantom (ATS-539), all 24 units were 100% passed in the non-inspection area, vertical distance measurement, horizontal distance measurement, axial/side resolution, gray tone and dynamic range items. As a result of analyzing the ultrasonic phantom pass rate according to the number of years of use of ultrasonic equipment in Gwangju, this study derived that the service life of ultrasonic equipment is related to the equipment performance. As the coverage for ultrasonic inspection is gradually expanded starting with the upper abdominal ultrasound, it is time to further manage the quality of ultrasonic inspection. Therefore, in addition to the standard guidelines for performance measurement for abdominal inspection, research on equipment phantom measurement methods and standards that can be used in various ultrasonic inspection areas such as the neck and chest, which have recently become increasingly important in clinical practice, should be conducted at the same time. In addition, quality control standards should be legally established to maintain the optimal performance of ultrasonic imaging devices and to secure the appropriateness of images. In addition, ultrasound imaging devices should be classified as special medical equipment, and it is considered that the level of equipment should be consistently maintained through continuous management so that images beneficial to treatment can be obtained.

  • In this paper, it is studied that kinematic analysis of a 5-axis ultrasonic inspection equipment. The equipment is comprised of three straight axes and two rotary axes. With features of ultrasonic, the transmitter and receiver of the equipment are vertical to a test surface, operating at regular intervals. To perform this well, the motions of every link should be found on the based of kinematic analysis of the equipment. We chose starting point for testing and defined relations among all links through transformation of coordinates. For double curvature-shaped test object, we generated test paths. To follow these, we found motions of all links using inverse kinematics. By using Matlab/Simulink, simulator was developed, so that we could find out desired trajectories of main axes for a scan.

  • Recently, the micro bonding technology comes into the spotlight as the miniaturization of the electronic product. The micro bonding technique can classify by way of laser welding and ultrasonic bonding and etc. However, the research on the micro bonding is much lacks. In this paper, carried out the cooling analysis of the 60 [kHz] ultrasonic bonding equipment to know heat effect of the piezoelectric element when the ultrasonic bonding equipment was operated. The ultrasonic horn having the natural frequency with 60 [kHz] for the dissimilar material bonding of the glass and solder tried to be designed. The parameters and response was set through the basic experiment. The dissimilar material bonding strength analysis using the 60 [kHz] ultrasonic bonding equipment was done. We carried out the bonding for improving bonding strength to using the silver paste. air thightness of bonding surface was confirmed by analysis of bonding interfaces.

  • Numerous pipe lines can be found on various plant-based industrial sites. These pipelines should be periodically checked for defects. Most of these pipelines are internally inaccessible and difficult to visually inspect. Therefore, the inspection is being carried out with the help of non-contact inspection equipment such as ultrasonic flaw detection equipment. The use of ultrasonic flaw detection equipment can raise time and efficiency issues. In order to solve this problem, we will study the basic technology necessary for the development of automated inspection system equipped with ultrasonic measuring equipment and verify the validity through the fabrication of the demonstration device.

  • This paper describes the implemenation of localization and visualization scheme to find out an ultrasonic source caused by defects of a power distribution line equipment. To increase the fault detection performance, $2{\times}4$ sensor array is configured with MEMS ultrasonic sensors, and from the sensor signals aquired, the azimuth and elevation angles of the ultrasonic source is estimated based on the delay-sum beam forming method. Also, to visualize the estimated location, it is marked on the background image. Experimental results show applicability of the present technique.

  • Unit-water content is an element directly related to durability and unit-water content of concrete used at construction site has a great effect on the durability of construction structure. Many methods are being discussed for more convenient and accurate measurements of unit-water content. Therefore, an experimental study was conducted on the prediction of unit-water content using ultrasonic equipment. Depending on the amount of cement in cement paste, the speed of ultrasonic waves varies and the experiment will be carried out using the same reception sensitivity in the future.

  • In the process of sterilization during the manufacture of beverages, both the treatment time and the temperature influence the beverage taste and flavor. Therefore, to improve the beverage quality, a nonthermal sterilization method is preferred to a high-temperature one. A nonthermal method, ultrasonic treatment by shock waves from cavitation, has been known to have a sterilizing effect. In this study, to observe the effect of ultrasonic frequency and treatment time on beverage quality, batch type ultrasonic equipment was fabricated and tested. Further, to evaluate the applicability of this ultrasonic method to an in-situ process, flow type ultrasonic heptagonal equipment was fabricated and then used to perform a sterilization experiment. Subsequently, the sterilizing effect was measured under ultrasonic and low-temperature ($55^{\circ}C$) treatments. Based on the obtained results, ultrasonic sterilization technology that can be applied for treatments at flow rates of up to 3 L/min was developed.
