  • A new solution to the two-dimensional scalar wave equation is presented, which descries a diffraction-limited beam maintaining the lateral field response expressed by the sinc function. Physically, it is a superposition of plane waves having different wavelengths traveling in different directions. The beam can attain a line focus with one-dimensional array transducer in ultrasonic medial imaging.

  • In this paper, we studied resolution to the FBP and BFP image reconstruction algorithms for ultrasonic diffraction tomography. In order to analyze the resolution to the tomographic images which can be reconstructed from the modified FBP image reconstruction algorithm by using fixed coordinate system and BFP image reconstruction algorithm which is suitable for plane structure object, we derived ambiguity functions to these algorithms and then analyzed lateral and depth resolution through simulation respectively. Simulation results show that the lateral and depth resolution to the FBP image reconstruction algorithm and the BFP image reconstruction algorithm was determined 0.27 λ, 0.70 λ and 0.39 λ, 0.98 λ at the 3dB respectively. These results imply that modified FBP and BFP image reconstruction algorithms for diffraction tomography is useful in the tomographic image reconstruction.

  • We have developed a laser ultrasonic system for visualization of elastic waves propagating on a solid surface, in order to visualize ultrasonic waves propagating on opaque media. This system can produce a series of successive images as an animation of wave propagation, because of scanning an optical heterodyne probe to measure surface transient displacements. Using this visualization technique, we observed the scattering and diffraction of ultrasonic waves around various shapes of artificial defects, and examined its application to nondestructive inspection. This imaging system provides various kinds of visualization images such as propagation image, amplitude image, arrival time image and velocity image. We have been confident that this technique is available for nondestructive inspection and materials ...

  • This paper presents a linear positioning system and its control algorithm design with nano accuracy/resolution. The basic linear stage structure is driven by an ultrasonic motor and its displacement feedback is detected by a LDGI (Laser Diffraction Grating Interferometer), which can achieve nanometer resolution. Due to the friction driving property of the ultrasonic motor, the driving situation differs in various ranges along the travel. Experiments have been carried out in order to observe and realize the phenomena of the three main driving modes: AC mode (for mm motion), Gate mode (for ${\mu}m$ motion), and DC mode (for nm motion). A proposed FCMAC (Fuzzy Cerebella Model Articulation Controller) control algorithm is implemented for manipulating and predicting the velocity variation during the motion of each mode respectively. The PCbased integral positioning system is built up with a NI DAQ Device by a BCB (Borland $C^{++}$ Builder) program to accomplish the purpose of an intelligent nanopositioning control.

  • At room-temperature, a facile, seedless, and environmentally benign green route for the synthesis of star like PbS nanoclusters at 7 min in aqueous solution of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethyl sulfate, [EMIM] [$EtSO_{4}$], room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), via ultrasonic irradiation is proposed. The X-ray diffraction studies display that the products are excellently crystallized in the form of cubic structure. An energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) investigation reveals the products are extremely pure. The absorption spectra of the product exhibit band gap energy of about 4.27 eV which shows an enormous blue shift of 3.86 eV that can be attributed to very small size of PbS nanoparticles produced and quantum confinement effect. A possible formation mechanism of the PbS nanoparticles using ultrasonic irradiation in aqueous solution of the RTIL is presented.

  • Polycrystalline MaF2(rutile structure) has been studied up to∼15 GPa under truly hydrostatic pressures in a diamond anvil cell(DAC) at room temperature. Its bulk modulus was determined to 96.0 GPa, from two independent runs using Birch-Murnaghan equation of state with an assumed Ko' of 5.1 from ultrasonic measurements. These are in good agreement with the previously reported values by both ultrasonic and X-ray diffraction meth-ods.

  • ZnO films were deposited on MgO substrates (ZnO/MgO) by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. Substrate temperature varied from $250^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the ZnO/MgO films were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The properties of photoluminescence (PL) for the films were investigated by dependence of PL spectra on the substrate temperature and the annealing temperature. The ZnO/MgO films prepared at $350^{\circ}C$ showed the strongest Ultraviolet light emission peak at 18 K and 300 K among the films in this study. The annealing process increases the visible light emission, which is due to the increased oxygen vacancies.

  • In this Paper, ZnO films mixed with iron oxide were prepared by an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The chemical composition and structural properties as a function of the Fe atomic ratio in the deposition solution were studied. Zinc acetate and ferrous chloride were used as precursors of Zn and Fe, respectively. Fe atomic ratio to Zn varied from 0.15 to 10.0. Substrate temperature was fixed at $250^{\circ}C$. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were carried out to analyse the chemical composition and state of Zn and Fe atoms.

  • The films of Er-doped ZnO (ZnO:Er) were prepared onto MgO wafers by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis at $550^{\circ}C$. The concentration of Er in the deposition source varied from 0.5 wt% to 3.0 wt%. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The properties of photoluminescence (PL) for the films were investigated by dependence of PL spectra on the Er concentration in the films. The films were grown as polycrystalline with a dominant direction of [002]. The grain size of the films were reduced by Er-doping. Er-doping enhanced the ultraviolet emission of ZnO:Er films. The ZnO:Er films prepared with the deposition source of 2.0 wt% Er showed the strongest ultraviolet light emission peak among the films in this study.
