  • Although some prediction models have successfully developed for ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), they do not provide insights and explicit relations between all constituents and its consistency, and compressive strength. In the present study, based on the experimental results, several mathematical models have been evaluated to predict the consistency and the 28-day compressive strength of UHPC. The models used were Linear, Logarithmic, Inverse, Power, Compound, Quadratic, Cubic, Mixed, Sinusoidal and Cosine equations. The applicability and accuracy of these models were investigated using experimental data, which were collected from literature. The comparisons between the models and the experimental results confirm that the majority of models give acceptable prediction with a high accuracy and trivial error rates, except Linear, Mixed, Sinusoidal and Cosine equations. The assessment of the models using numerical methods revealed that the Quadratic and Inverse equations based models provide the highest predictability of the compressive strength at 28 days and consistency, respectively. Hence, they can be used as a reliable tool in mixture design of the UHPC.

  • In this study we measured the changes according to time respectively on the basis of 0, 30, 60 and 90 minutes, taking into consideration the decline in fluidity of concrete according to elapsed time to analyze manufacturing capability of batcher plant according to elapsed time of ready-mixed concrete manufactured in batcher plant, and offer basic data for mixture design of ultra-high strength concrete. The proportion of water-binder was 23.55, water content was 160kg/m3, proportion of replacement of crushed sand was 0, 20 and 40% at 3 level, and we applied to the same condition of triaxial component using blast furnace slag powder and silica fume as admixture. And to meet the demand of certain fluidity, we measured respectively on property before and after hardening of ultra-high strength concrete using superplasticizer. As a result of experiment, before hardening of ultra-high strength concrete showed the best fluidity in conditions of crushed sand replacement rates of 20% and superplasticizer composition of 1.95%, but it appeared that fluidity drops as time goes by in the same composition condition. And it appeared that when it comes to hardened, the changes of compression strength according to elapsed time by crushed sand replacement rates were within 1MPa. Therefore, it turned out that the difference of strength according to elapsed time was low and compression strength of 280dys in composition mentioned above appeared highly as 88MPa.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate analytically the flexural behavior of beam reinforced by an alkali-activated slag-based fiber-reinforced composite. The materials and mixture proportion were selected to manufacture an alkali-activated slag-based fiber-reinforced composite with high tensile strain capacity over 7% and compressive strength and tension tests were performed. The composite showed a compressive strength of 32.7MPa, a tensile strength of 8.43MPa, and a tensile strain capacity of 7.52%. In order to analyze the flexural behavior of beams reinforced by ultra-high-ductile composite, nonlinear sectional analysis was peformed for four types of beams. Analysis showed that the flexural strength of beam reinforced partially by ultra-high-ductile composite increased by 8.0%, and the flexural strength of beam reinforced fully by ultra-high-ductile composite increased by 24.7%. It was found that the main reason of low improvement in flexural strength is the low tensile strain at the bottom of beam. The tensile strain at bottom corresponding to the flexural strength was 1.38% which was 18.4% of tensile strain capacity of the composite.

  • This paper presents the fundamental study on rational manufacture of Ultra High Strength(VHS) concrete using industrial by-products as like silica fume, slag and fly ash. In this study, we had tested various mixing cases to manufacture the UHS concrete(target compressive strength : over $1,000kgf/cm^2$) which is easily workable (target slump flow : $60{\pm}10cm$). The main variables are studied: 1) to find the optimum replacement ratio of mineral admixture. 2) to find a rational water-binder ratio and a proper binder content. 3) to find the method for reduction of slump loss. From the test results, it is concluded that the rational mix design can be made by using 40% slag, 10% silica fume. We found that compressive strength of UHS concrete increases according to decreasing W/B ratio but in W/B ratio 18~20%, the difference is vague and the compressive strength does not necessarily increase according to increasing binder content over 700kg.

  • A detailed experimental program was conducted to investigate the flexural behavior of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams reinforced with high strength steel (HSS) rebars with a specified yield strength of 600 MPa via direct tensile test and monotonic four-point bending test. First, two sets of direct tensile test specimens, with the same reinforcement ratio but different yield strength of reinforcement, were fabricated and tested. Subsequently, six simply supported beams, including two plain UHPC beams and four reinforced UHPC beams, were prepared and tested under four-point bending load. The results showed that the balanced-reinforced UHPC beams reinforced with HSS rebars could improve the ultimate load-bearing capacity, deformation capacity, ductility properties, etc. more effectively owing to interaction between high strength of HSS rebar and strain-hardening characteristic of UHPC. In addition, the UHPC with steel rebars kept strain compatibility prior to the yielding of the steel rebar, further satisfied the plane-section assumption. Most importantly, the crack pattern of the UHPC beam reinforced with HSS rebars was prone to transform from single main crack failure corresponding to the normal-strength steel, to multiple main cracks failure under the condition of balanced-reinforced failure, which validated by the conclusion of direct tensile tests cooperated with acoustic emission (AE) source locating technique as well.

  • This study investigated pre-mixed cement combined with ordinary portland cement, BF and SF, in order to manufacture cement binder, which is possible to produce 150MPa ultra high strength concrete. The BF used in this study reduces and control hydration heat. It can also improve concrete fluidity, while AP increases hydration product and accelerates reaction of BF. SF has micro filler effect and makes pozzolanic reaction. It also fabricates high density internal organization. This developed pre-mixed cement can reduce hydration heat and increase hydration product. It is possible to fabricate high density organization and to secure homogeneity. The mock-up test of ultra high strength concrete showed excellent dispersibility and workability and indicated compressive strength more than 150MPa at 28 days.

  • Although the application of high strength steel is increasing to cope with the various updated regulations of automobiles, high strength steel sheets are difficult to formulate due to the high tensile strength and low elongation of those materials. In this study, the slide motion was controlled using a servo press in order to improve the formability of the process of manufacturing ultra-high strength steel of above 1.2GPa. Also, the friction characteristics of the slid motion were investigated through a high speed friction test. The slide motion was optimized by adjusting the number of steps, the rising start position and the rise height of the slide. At the same time, it is noted that the optimal slide motion increased the forming depth by about 40%. From the results of the high speed friction test, the application of the slide motion reduces friction resistance, thereby improving friction characteristics and improving formability.

  • The aim of this research is selecting an economical aggregate type for ultra-high strength concrete with 80 to 120 MPa of compressive strength. As the tests, the effect of water-to-binder ratios and types of aggregate on autogenous shrinkage of ultra-high strength concrete were evaluated. as the results of a series of tests performed, the slump flow was satisfied the target range of 600 ± 100 mm, and the concrete mixture with RLA showed higher elastic modulus than the other cases. For the autogenous shrinkage preventing performance, in the case of water-to-binder ratio of 15, and 20 %, the mixture with BA showed slightly improved autogenous shrinkage reducing effect than the mixture with RLA while the mixture with RLA showed better performance at 25 % of water-to-binder ratio. Therefore, based on the tests results of slump flow, elastic modulus, and autogenous shrinkage, the RLA is considered as a better aggregate type for this purpose.

  • In this study, the experiment was carried out to investigate and analyze the strenth properties and flowability of ultra-high strength concrete accroding to types of mineral admixtures and cements. The main experimental variables were water/binder ratio $25.0\%$, water content $160kg/m^3$ and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, silica fume and meta kaolin. According to the test results, the principle conclusions are summarized as follows 1) In case of using admixtures, superplasticizer amount need more than plain concrete. 2) According to kinds of admixtures and cements, the viscosity of concrete show much difference. 3) The autogeneous shrinkage of ultra-high strength concrete is profitable that use admixture, and heat of hydration is desirable that apply considering countermeasure enough in the advance. 4) Meta kaolin is excellent in side but has viscosity enlargement efficiency a little. But, problem estimates that is not to make design strength to and $70N/mm^2$ if use mixing condition with water-binder ratio properly.
