  • This study analyzed the characteristics of "free inquiry" products for scientifically-gifted elementary school students. To do this, 5~6 graders (n=99) at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected. The products (n=82) of "free inquiry" submitted by the students in 2018 and 2019 were analyzed according to their contents and method types. The analysis of the results showed that the free inquiry outputs of scientifically-gifted students tended to not include the scientific knowledge of the upper grades than the corresponding students. In the outputs, the scientific knowledge in different grades were often not linked. There were relatively many cases of convergence of knowledge in various science and/or non-science subjects and knowledge of 'physics', whereas knowledge of 'earth science' were the least. The outputs were more often aimed at "finding scientific facts" than "development and invention" and tended to target non-living things rather than living things. The scientifically-gifted students tended to conduct free inquiry using 'experimental-centered inquiry' by themselves rather than by group. They were also most likely to conduct experiments only once, and did not clearly write down the period of their inquiry. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • The objetive of this study was to explore a bibliometric approach to quantitatively assess current research trends with regard to breast cancer in Mexico. Articles were analyzed by scientific output and research performances of individuals, institutes, and collaborative countries with Mexico. Data were retrieved from the Web of Science database from 2003 to 2012; this was searched using different terms related to breast cancer, including "breast cancer", "mammary ductal carcinoma" and "breast tumour". Data were then extracted from each file, transferred to Excel charts and visualised as diagrams. A total of 256 articles were retrieved. The institutions with the majority of publications were the National Autonomous University of Mexico (22.3%), the National Institute of Cancerology (21.9%), and Social Security Mexican Institute (20.3%); clinical observation studies were the dominant investigation type (64%), and the main types of research were metabolics (24.2%) and pathology (21.5%). This article demonstrates the usefulness of bibliometrics to address key evaluation questions and to establish priorities, define future areas of research, and develop breast cancer control strategies in Mexico.

  • Cancer immunotherapy has been acknowledged as a new paradigm for cancer treatment, with notable therapeutic effects on certain cancer types. Despite their significant potential, clinical studies over the past decade have revealed that cancer immunotherapy has low response rates in the majority of solid tumors. One of the key causes for poor responses is known to be the relatively low immunogenicity of solid tumors. Because most solid tumors are immune desert 'cold tumors' with antitumor immunity blocked from the onset of innate immunity, combination therapies that combine validated T-based therapies with approaches that can increase tumor-immunogenicity are being considered as relevant therapeutic options. This review paper focuses on immunogenic cell death (ICD) as a way of enhancing immunogenicity in tumor tissues. We will thoroughly review how ICDs such as necroptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis can improve anti-tumor immunity and outline clinical trials targeting ICD. Finally, we will discuss the potential of ICD inducers as an adjuvant for cancer immunotherapy.

  • To operate in real environment, humanoid robots should be able to react to unknown disturbances. To deal with disturbances, various robust control algorithms have been developed for decades. But for collaborative works such as teleoperation system, a compliance control can be the better solution for disturbance reactions. In this paper, a center of mass (CoM) compliance control algorithm for humanoid robots is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on the state observer and positive feedback of disturbance. With the state observer based on humanoid CoM control performance model, disturbance in each direction can be observed. The positive feedback of disturbances to the reference CoM trajectory enables compliant motion. The main contributions of this algorithm are achieving compliance independently in each axis and maintaining balance against external force. Through dynamic simulations, the performance of the proposed method was demonstrated. Under two types of disturbance conditions, humanoid robot DYROS-JET reacted with compliant motion via the proposed algorithm.

  • This study was performed to provide efficient fund managing plans for hospitals by looking into the management of medical fees for accident insurance. Car insurance, industrial accident insurance and seamen's insurance at a general hospital which is located in Busan during 29 months from January 1, 2009 to May 31, 2011 were assessed. The research data is the total number of 6,293 cases, including 2,251 car insurance cases, 2,350 industrial accident insurance cases, and 1,692 seamen's insurance cases. There were some significant differences found, as car insurance and seamen's insurance, including accident insurance, are types of insurance for which employers or traffic accidents offenders shall be the final premium payer. In addition, medical examination fees or premium payers are applied under their respective related laws. The findings suggest that it is necessary for managers of hospitals to prepare differentiated management schemes based on the characteristics of each insurer and schemes to ensure proper recovery strategies of uncollected medical account receivables.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate tendencies on land use in the housing site development district by grasping the characteristics of changes of building use at the borders of single-detached housing area for planning single-detached housing area in the future. It is divided the borders of detached housing areas into three types, educational facility, parks and green spaces, and apartment complex, and then analyzed the characteristics of each location after a field study. It is summarized as follows. First, there were stationery and flour-based meal stores in adjacent borders near educational facilities, suitable for students' interest and motion patterns, and it is required to consider about frequent children's action in the street. Second, there are many facilities for park users and residents, such as educational institutes and restaurants in adjacent to borders near parks. In borders neighboring buffer green belt areas, warehouses and vacant sites were mainly distributed. And the revitalization of streets was lower than others, because a road was used as a parking space. Third, there were realty dealers, food stores, and laundries which provide the dwellers with service in adjacent borders near multi-family housing.

  • Korea's R&D investment has significantly increased in recent years. However, the efficiency of R&D investment is still in question. In order to examine the ways to improve the efficiency of R&D investment, this paper presents dynamic analysis on both quantitative and qualitative efficiency of R&D projects. A Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA)/Window method is used to analyze static and dynamic efficiencies of Industrial Material R&D projects in Korea from 2012 to 2016. As a result, statistically significant differences between quantitative and qualitative efficiency have been found. It has been observed that characteristics of Decision Making Units(DMUs) have an impact on both static and dynamic efficiencies. In particular, textile and ceramic projects showed relatively stable qualitative efficiency for a short-term perspective, while steel and chemical projects showed such stability for a long-term perspective. Among the types of project principals, universities showed relatively stable efficiency, compared with private sectors and research institutes. The results of this paper can be used as a guideline to manage the performance and stability of R&D projects' efficiency.

  • Cables are indispensable in nuclear power plants for transmitting data measured by various types of detectors, such as self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs). These cables will generate disturbing signals that must be accurately distinguished and eliminated. Given that the cable current is not very significant, previous research has focused on SPND, with little attention paid to cable evaluation and validation. This paper specifically focuses on the quantitative analysis of cables and proposes a theoretical model to predict cable noise. In this model, the reaction characteristics between irradiated neutrons and cables were discussed thoroughly. Based on the Monte Carlo method, a comprehensive simulation approach of neutron sensitivity was introduced and long-term irradiation experiments in a heavy water reactor (HWR) were designed to verify this model. The theoretical results of this method agree quite well with the experimental measurements, proving that the model is reliable and exhibits excellent accuracy. The experimental data also show that the cable current accounts for approximately 0.2% of the total current at the initial moment, but as the detector gradually depletes, it will contribute more than 2%, making it a non-negligible proportion of the total signal current.
