This research experimentally evaluated the recyclability of four varieties of lignocellulosic fly ash(FA), a by-product from three power plants employing lignocellulosic biomass(Bio-SRF, wood pellets) as a fuel source. Comprehensive analyses were conducted on FA, encompassing both physical parameters (particle shape, size distribution, fineness, and density) and chemical properties(chemical composition and heavy metal content). Mortar test specimens, with FA mixing ratios ranging from 5 to 20%, were produced in compliance with KS L 5405 standards, and their flow and compressive strength were subsequently measured. The test results indicated that the four types of FA exhibited particle sizes approximately between 20~30㎛, densities around 2.3~2.5g/cm3, and a fineness range of 2,600~4,900cm2/g. The FA comprised approximately 50~90% of components such as SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and CaO, displaying characteristics akin to type-II and type-III FA of KS L 5405 standards, albeit with differences in chlorine and SiO2 content. From the mortar tests, it was observed that the compressive strength of the mortar ranged between 34~47MPa when the pellet combustion FA was mixed in proportions of 5~20%. FA, produced exclusively from the combustion of 100% lignocellulosic fuel, is assessed to possess high recyclability potential as a substitute for conventional admixtures.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT)-reinforced poly(ethylene-co-ethyl acrylate) (EEA) nanocomposites were prepared by both melt and solution mixing methods. The mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties were investigated as a function of type and loading of CNT. The tensile strength and modulus increased, while elongation at break decreased with increasing MWCNT content. The hollow-type MWCNT showed an improved tensile strength and elongation at break compared with a conventional MWCNT. The thermal degradation temperature was increased by around $40^{\circ}C$ with increasing the amount of MWCNT. The melt-mixed composites showed the highest volume resistivity. In the case of solution-mixed composites, the conventional MWCNT was estimated to show much lower volume resistivity than that of hollow MWCNT. The number and length of extruded CNT onto the fractured surface increased by both increasing the content of CNT and employing the tensile strain to the sample. The melt-mixed specimens showed much smaller number and shorter length of extruded CNT.

In this study, in order to apply ultra-high-strength concrete beams of 100 MPa or more manufactured by centrifugal molding as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel, the purpose is to verify the structural safety of the corner rigid joint in which the centrifugal molded beam is integrated with the substructure, which is the negative moment area. A full-size specimen was manufactured, and loading tests and analysis studies were performed. In order to expect the same effect that the maximum moment occurs in the corner joint part of the upper slab end when the standard model of the avalanche tunnel is designed with a load combination according to the specification, a modified cantilever type structural model specimen was manufactured and the corner rigid joint was fixedly connected. A study was performed to determine the performance of the method and the optimal connection construction method. The test results demonstrated that the proposed connection system outperforms others. Despite having differences in joint connection construction type, stable flexural behavior was shown in all the tested specimens. The proposed method also outperformed the behavior of centrifugally formed beams and upper slabs. The behavior of the corner rigid joint analysis model according to the F.E. analysis showed slightly greater stiffness compared to the results of the experiment, but the overall behavior was almost similar. Therefore, there is no structural problem in the construction of the corner rigid joint between the centrifugally formed beam and the wall developed in this study.

Many methods have been tried to more correctly measure rock joint roughness. However, true roughness may be distorted and underestimated due to the sampling interval and measurement method. Thus, currently used measurement methods produce a dead zone and distort roughness profiles. The purpose of this study is to suggest new roughness measurement method by a camera-type 3D scanner as an alternative of currently used methods. First, the underestimation of artificial roughness is analyzed by using the current measurement method such as laser profilometry. Second, we replicate eight specimens from two rock joint surfaces, and digitize by a 3D scanner. Then, the roughness coefficient values obtained from eight numbers of 3D surface data and from three hundred twenty numbers of 2D profiles data are analyzed by using current and new measurement methods. The artificial simulation confirms that the sampling interval is one of main factors for the distortion of roughness and shows that inclination of waviness may not be considered any current methods. The experimental results show that the camera-type 3D scanner produces 10% larger roughness values than current methods. As the proposed new method is a fast, high precision and more accurate method for the roughness measurement, it should be a promising technique in this area.

Purpose: p53 is one of the most commonly mutated genes in human tumors. The aim of this study was to analyze p53 mutation in gastric cancer and its correlations with the clinicopathologic variables to clarify the usefulness of p53 mutation as a prognostic factor. Materials and Methods: Specimens from 331 patients with gastric cancer who underwent a gastrectomy between March 1999 and April 2001 at the Kyungpook National University Hospital were used. p53 gene mutations were assessed by using a polymerase chain-reaction single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis. The correlations between p53 gene mutation and clinocopathologic parameters were analyzed. Results: p53 mutations were found in 66 (19.9%) tumors. Among those 66 cases, mutations were seen in 23 tumors at axon 5, in 8 at exon 6, in 21 at exon 7, and in 17 at exon 8. Two mutations were shown in 3 tumors. Thiriy-six (23.1%) of 156 intestinal-type tumors and 19 (13.1%) of 145 diffuse-type tumors showed p53 gene mutation (P=0.007). The frequency of p53 gene mutation didn't show any significant differences according to age, sex, stage, location, or gross type. Exon 5 mutations showed more frequently in intestinal-type tumors than in diffuse-type tumors (9.7% vs. 2.8%, P=0.024), and p53 mutation were more frequent in lymph nodes metastasis group than lymph nodes non-metastasis group with statistical significance (25.0% vs 15.6%, P=0.034). The five-year survival rate showed no statistically significant difference with p53 mutation (P=0.704). Conclusion: p53 mutations assessed by PCR-SSCP had little value as a prognostic factor after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer.
Wood-rotting fungi of the Aphyllophorales were collected through field trips to mountain areas of the country from January to December of 1997. Through the observation and identification of specimens, two genera, Meruliopsis (type species=M. taxicola) and Pseudomerulius (type species=P. aureus), and four species, Phanerochaete calotricha, Phanerochaete chrysorhiza, Meruliopsis corium, and Pseudomerulius aureus were confirmed as new wood-rotting fungi to Korea and are registered here with descriptions.

The p-type $(Bi_{0.2}Sb_{0.8})_2Te_3$ powers were fabricated by mechanical alloying and hot-pressed at temperatures of $350{\sim}550^{\circ}C$. Themoelectric properties of the hot-pressed $(Bi_{0.2}Sb_{0.8})_2Te_3$ were characterized as a function of the hot-pressing temperature. With increasing the hot-pressing temperature from $350^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$, the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical resistivity decreased from 237 ${\mu}V/K$ to 210 ${\mu}V/K$ and 2.25 $m{\Omega}-cm$ to 1.34 $m{\Omega}-cm$, respectively. The power factor of the hot-pressed $(Bi_{0.2}Sb_{0.8})_2Te_3$ became larger from $24.95{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$ to $32.85{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$ with increasing the hot-pressing temperature from $350^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$. Among the specimens hot-pressed at $350{\sim}550^{\circ}C$, the $(Bi_{0.2}Sb_{0.8})_2Te_3$ hot-pressed at $500^{\circ}C$ exhibited the maximum dimensionless figure-of-merit of 1.09 at $25^{\circ}C$ and 1.2 at $75^{\circ}C$.
It is possible to achieve high strength ranging from 40 MPa to 70 MPa in alkali-activated slag concrete (AASC), and AASC is also known to have a finer pore structure due to its high latent hydraulicity and fineness of slag cement, which makes it difficult for chloride ions to penetrate. Electrophoresis is mostly used to calculate the effective diffusion coefficient of chloride ions, and then to evaluate resistance to salt damage. Few studies have been conducted on the fixation capacity of chloride ions in AASC. For this reason, in this study the chloride fixation within the hardened paste was evaluated according to the type and the amount of alkaline activators. As a result, it was revealed that among the test specimens, the chloride fixation was greatest in the paste containing $Na_2SiO_3$. In addition, it was found that as more activator was added, a higher level of chloride fixation was observed. Through this analysis, it can be concluded that the type and the amount of alkaline activators have a high correlation with the amount of C-S-H produced.

Hot dip galvanizing in the steel plant is one of the most widely used methods for preventing the corrosion of steel materials including structures, steel sheets, and materials for industrial facilities. While hot dip galvanizing has the advantage of stability and economic feasibility, it has difficulty in repairing equipment and maintaining the facilities due to high-temperature oxidation caused by Zn Fume where molten zinc used in the open spaces. Currently, SM45C (carbon steel plate for mechanical structure, KS standard) is used for the equipment. If a part of the equipment is resistant to high temperature and Zn fume, it is expected to improve equipment life and performance. In this study, the manufactured Ni alloy was tested for its corrosion resistance against Zn fume when it was used in the hot dip galvanizing equipment in the steel plant. Two kinds of materials currently used in the equipment, new Ni alloy and Inconel(typical corrosion-resistant Ni alloy), were selected as the reference groups. Two kinds of molten metal were used to confirm the corrosion of each alloy according to the molten metal. Zn fume was generated by bubbling Ar gas from molten Zn in a furnace($500{\sim}700^{\circ}C$) and the samples were analyzed after 30 days. After 30 days, the specimens were taken out, the oxide layer on the surface was confirmed with an optical microscope and SEM, and the corrosion was confirmed using a potentiodynamic polarization test. Corrosion depends on the type of molten metal.

In this study, the replacement effects of cementitious materials (fly ash, blast furnace slag, and blended mixtures) were assessed for normal strength concrete with very low shrinkage properties under $350{\mu}{\varepsilon}$ strain using a powder type shrinkage reducing agent. In addition, through mock-up tests of actual size walls restrained with four sides, the shrinkage characteristics using the power type shrinkage reducing agent were measured and the crack reducing ability was assessed. The slump and air contents were measured as the properties of fresh concrete, and the length changes of the prismatic specimens, $100{\times}100{\times}400mm$ in size, were measured for the shrinkage characteristics. To reduce the shrinkage of concrete, the maximum replacing ratio of the fly ash is effective to 20 percent; however, the use of blast furnace slag and ternary mixtures did not reduce the shrinkage.
