  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force.   • Two options arising during implementation of an advanced model-based control system on a process with low-level loops are discussed. Strengths and deficiencies of the options are examined and methods to overcome the deficiencies are proposed. Simulation results of a CSTR and distillation column are presented to demonstrate the performance improvements.

  • This paper proposes the passive redundancy algorithm of multi-controller structure applicable to the steam generator level control system in the low power operating range. In the passive redundancy scheme of multi-controller structure, two suitable controllers exist if the plant is strongly stabilizable. One of the two controllers can be selected arbitrarily only if it is stable. In particular, this paper shows that the passive redundancy scheme can be efficiently used with PID and GPC control algorithms through simulation studies on the control of the steam generator.

  • The gas stripper system of a nuclear power plant provides gas-free water to a reactor and a turbine system. The gas tripper unit has two control systems to regulate pressure and level independently. Because the level and the pressure interact as a control disturbance each other, continuous operation of the system is difficult. In this paper, We describe the controllability evaluation of the gas stripper system and the results of the optimally tuned control gains.

Efficient Eye Location for Biomedical Imaging using Two-level Classifier Scheme

  • We present a novel method for eye location by means of a two-level classifier scheme. Locating the eye by machine-inspection of an image or video is an important problem for Computer Vision and is of particular value to applications in biomedical imaging. Our method aims to overcome the significant challenge of an eye-location that is able to maintain high accuracy by disregarding highly variable changes in the environment. A first level of computational analysis processes this image context. This is followed by object detection by means of a two-class discrimination classifier(second algorithmic level).We have tested our eye location system using FERET and BioID database. We compare the performance of two-level classifier with that of non-level classifier, and found it's better performance.

  • 실제 프로세스 제어 중의 3개의 탱크 액체가 이 결합 시스템을 통제하는 작업 원리에 근거하여 두 개의 입력과 두 개의 출력 시스템의 수학적 모델을 제시하였다. 귀로 사이의 결합 작용을 한 종류의 형식의 요소로 간주하고 Feedforward 보상에 근거하여 정형화한 형태의 통제 분리 방법을 제시하였다. 그리고 두 개의 입출력 결합 시스템에 대해 통제 분리를 진행하고 마지막으로 프로그래밍을 통해 이 통제 분리 프로세스의 실험을 수행하였다. 또한 시뮬레이션 결과는 그 방법이 양호한 통제 분리 효과를 얻을 수 있다는 것을 나타내었다.

  • In compliance with environmental regulations at sea and the introduction of unmanned autonomous ships, electric propulsion ships are garnering significant attention. Induction machines used as propulsion electric motor (PEM) have maintenance advantages, but speed control is very complicated and difficult. One of the most commonly used techniques for speed control is DTC (direct torque control). DTC is simple in the reference frame transformation and the stator flux calculation. Meanwhile, two-level and three-level voltage source inverters (VSI) are predominantly used. The three-level VSI has more flexibility in voltage space vector selection compared to the two-level VSI. In this paper, speed is controlled using the DTC method based on the specifications of the PEM. The speed controller employs a PI controller with anti-windup functionality. In addition, the characteristics of the two-level VSI and three-level VSI are compared under identical conditions. It was confirmed through simulation that proper control of speed and torque has been achieved. In particular, the torque ripple was small and control was possible with a low DC voltage at low speed in the three-level VSI. The study confirmed that the application of DTC, using a three-level VSI, contributes to enhancing the system's response performance.

  • This paper presents a water level control method using Z-80 microcomputer. The process considered in this paper is one tank system which is described by an unknown nonlinear differential equation. The water level is measured by the end of bar installed at a float passing through 8 pair of photointerrupters located at equal distance. Therefore, the input data to 8255 which is interface between Z-80 and photointerrupters is discrete value, namely, value under 1. values from 1 to 8, and value upper 8. The water is pumped into the tank from a reservoir by switching on a relay connected to a moter and pump driving system. The pumping is stopped by switching off the relay. Experimental studies for two types of controllers are performed in order to investigate the control performance of water level of the water pumping system.

  • Tangjin Power Plant is modern Korean standard plant which is made up Once Through Super Critical Boiler, Turbin, Generator and Flue Gas Desulfarization System. INFI-90 system fur control of the 500 MW Korean standard super critical once through boiler Mark-V for Turbine, EX-2000 fer Generator, WDPF for FGD were installed in Tangiin thermal power plant. There were two BFPTs, BFPM, 25% control valve, 35% control valve to control boiler feed water flow. It is very difficult to tune the Separator Tank level control system and change the mode from Wet to Dry. This paper focuses on test results and modification control logic for feed water control system in Tangjin power plant.
