  • A new cleaning robot system for live-line tension insulator string was developed to prevent an insulator failure, which can have severe effects on national security as well as national industry and economy. The robot moves along the insulator string using the clamps installed on its two moving frames. Especially, unlike the existing cleaning robots using jets of water or water/air, the robot system adopts dry cleaning method using a rotating brush and a circular motion guide. This robot system has control architecture consisting of a master control unit and two slave control units. We confirmed its effectiveness through experiments.

  • Nash Equilibrium(NE) is essential to investigate a participant's bidding strategy in a competitive electricity market. Congestion on a transmission line makes it difficult to compute the NE due to causing a mixed strategy. In order to compute the NE of a multi-player game, some heuristics are proposed with concepts of a key player and power transfer distribution factor in other studies. However, generation capacity constraints are not considered and make it more difficult to compute the NE in the heuristics approach. This paper addresses an effect of generation capacity limits on the NE, and suggest a solution technique for the mixed strategy NE including generation capacity constraints as two heuristic rules. It is reported in this paper that a role of the key player who controls congestion in a NE can be transferred to other player depending on the generation capacity of the key player. The suggested heuristic rules are verified to compute the mixed strategy NE with a consideration of generation capacity constraints, and the effect of the generation constraints on the mixed strategy NE is analyzed in simulations of IEEE 30 bus systems.

  • The two main purposes of this study were to develop the 'Three Generation Family-Madang Program' and to examine its effects on enhancing family functioning and strengthening family relationships. The 'Three Generation Family-Madang Program' consisted of six sessions, each of which included various types of activities and educational materials to evoke interests of the three-generation family members. Subjects of this study were 21 triples, consisting of mothers and their family members, each for the experimental group and the control group, respectively. Mean, Standard Deviation, MANCOVA, and Discriminant Analysis were carried out for the data analyses. Our results showed that the 'Three Generation Family-Madang Program' was effective in enhancing family adaptability and family relationships. Our program focused on the parent generation to have a better understanding and a more positive perspective toward other family members, which would enhance family functioning and family relationships. Our program also received positive feedback from the grandparent and grandchildren generation participants.

  • We consider facility layout problems, where mn facility units are assigned into mn cells. These cells are arranged into a rectangular pattern with m rows and n columns. In order to solve this cell type facility layout problem, many approximation algorithms with improved local search methods were studied because it was quite difficult to find exact optimum of such problem in case of large size problem. In this paper, new algorithms based on Simulated Annealing (SA) method with two neighborhood generation methods are proposed. The new neighborhood generation method adopts the exchanging operation of facility units in accordance with adjacent preference. For evaluating the performance of the neighborhood generation method, three algorithms, previous SA algorithm with random 2-opt neighborhood generation method, the SA-based algorithm with the new neighborhood generation method (SA1) and the SA-based algorithm with probabilistic selection of random 2-opt and the new neighborhood generation method (SA2), are developed and compared by experiment of solving same example problem. In case of numeric examples with problem type 1 (the optimum layout is given), SA1 algorithm could find excellent layout than other algorithms. However, in case of problem type 2 (random-prepared and optimum-unknown problem), SA2 was excellent more than other algorithms.

  • The objectives of this study are to subdivide the group of elderly population into the liberation generation as a poor generation that experienced the barley hump, and the baby boom generation to verify differences in the mean of social capital and well-being between those groups of two generations, to verify the effects of social capital on the well-being, and then to review differences between those groups of two generations regarding the effects of subfactors of social capital on the well-being. This study collected and analyzed data from 200 people excluding missing values from the baby boom generation and liberation generation born in 1945-1963, in the D region from July 1st to July 31st, 2018. The main results of this study are as follows. in the results of comparatively reviewing the social capital having effects on the well-being of each group of liberation generation and baby boom generation, when relieving the statistical significance level to 90%, the network was working as a variable having effects on both groups. In this case, when mutually comparing the influence of regression coefficient as value, the network had a relatively larger effect on the well-being of the liberation generation.

  • When designing photovoltaic power plants in Korea, the prediction of photovoltaic power generation at the design phase is carried out using PVSyst, PVWatts (Overseas power generation prediction software), and overseas weather data even if the test site is a domestic site. In this paper, for a comparative study to predict power generation using weather information, domestic photovoltaic power plants in two regions were selected as target sites. PVsyst, which is a commercial power generation forecasting program, was used to compare the accuracy between the predicted value of power generation (obtained using overseas weather information (Meteonorm 7.1, NASA-SSE)) and the predicted value of power generation obtained by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). In addition, we have studied ways to improve the prediction of power generation through comparative analysis of meteorological data. Finally, we proposed a revised solar power generation prediction model that considers climatic factors by considering the actual generation amount.

  • Sum-frequency generation spectra of a Langmuir monolayer on water surface at varying surface areas were studied with two-dimensional correlation analysis. Upon enlarging the area/molecule of the Langmuir monolayer, the sum-frequency spectra changed reflecting the conformation change of the alkyl chains of the molecules in the monolayer. These changes stood out more clearly by employing two-dimensional correlation analysis of the above sum-frequency spectra. Features not very pronounced in the original spectra such as closely-spaced spectral bands can also be easily distinguished in the two-dimensional correlation spectra.

  • We proposed a series connection-type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) using E-I core that can prevent the internal magnetic flux generation of cores during normal operation, and prevent the saturation of cores due to a sudden magnetic flux generation at the initial stage of fault occurrence while limiting the peak current. Through a short-circuit simulation experiment, we analyzed the operating status of the two superconducting elements and limiting characteristics according to the size of the fault current peak before and after the failure. Further, the double peak current limiting characteristics according to the winding directions as well as the current and the voltage of each coil were compared and analyzed.

  • A method of dual-signal generation from two different enzymes was developed and utilized to simultaneously perform dual immunoassays in a single microwell. Two enzymes selected as tracers were horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and β-galactosidase (GAL). 3, 3', 5, 5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and chlorophenolred-β-galactopyranoside (CPRG) as chromogenic substrates for the respective enzyme were used. Although the two enzymes showed their maximum activities at distinct pH conditions (pH 5.1 for HRP and 7.5 for GAL), the enzyme reactions were able to be concurrently carried out at pH 5.75 in a dual-substrate solution without signal loss. This performance was achieved by increasing TMB concentration two-fold, introducing potassium salt as activator of GAL reaction, and extending total reaction time 50%. The signal generation method was then used for dual-enzyme immunoassays to detect antibodies with co-immobilized Hepatitis C virus antigens (core and NS5) and a Hepatitis B virus antigen (PreS(2)) in a microwell. Dose-response curves of the assays revealed cooperativity between different antigen-antibody complex formation, which suggested that dual immunoassays can only be used for qualitative screening tests unless the antigens immobilized were spatially separated.
