  • The linearized suffix tree (LST) is an array data structure supporting traversals on suffix trees. We apply this LST to two dimensional (2D) suffix trees and obtain a space-efficient substitution of 2D suffix trees. Given an $n{\times}n$ text matrix and an $m{\times}m$ pattern matrix over an alphabet ${\Sigma}$, our 2D-LST provides pattern matching in $O(m^2log{\mid}{\Sigma}{\mid})$ time and $O(n^2)$ space.

  • In this paper, we describe real-time optical implementation of the Hopfield neural network model for two-dimensional associative memory by using commercial LCTV and Multifocus For real-time processing capability, we use LCTV as a memory mask and a input spatial light modulator. Inner product between input pattern and memory matrix is processed by the multifocus holographic lens. The output signal is then electrically thresholded fed back to the system input by 2-D CCD camera. From the good experimental results, the proposed system can be applied to pattern recognition and machine vision in future.

  • Kohonen's self organizing feature map (SOFM) converts arbitrary dimensional patterns into one or two dimensional arrays of nodes. Among the many competitive learning algorithms, SOFM proposed by Kohonen is considered to be powerful in the sense that it not only clusters the input pattern adaptively but also organize the output node topologically. SOFM is usually used for a preprocessor or cluster. It can perform dimensional reduction of input patterns and obtain a topology-preserving map that preserves neighborhood relations of the input patterns. The traditional SOFM algorithm[1] is a competitive learning neural network that maps inputs to discrete points that are called nodes on a lattice...

  • The purpose of this study is to testify the pattern making method to develop the men's basic bodice pattern using 3-dimensional body scan data. The experimental patterns were made by adding wearing ease on flattened body scan data and tracing the outlines of it. The experimental bodice pattern were composed of front, back, and side panels. To compare the difference between the experimental pattern and traditional pattern, two pattern making methods were compared. Two sets of basic bodice patterns were made for each of the 10 male subjects: a set of pattern was made by experimental method and the other set was made by Bunka pattern making method. The experimental and traditional patterns were measured at 13 dimensions. The results show that there was a difference between the experimental patterns and traditional patterns at the front length, back length, front width, front neck width, back neck width, and back neck depth. The fit was also compared for both patterns. The results of the fit test show that the experimental patterns were superior to the traditional patterns at the fit of neck, shoulder, and armhole. The experimental pattern making method was expected to be useful for mass customization.

  • An OptiNeural system is developed for optical pattern classification. It is a novel hybrid system which consists of an optical processor and a multilayer neural network. It takes advantages of two dimensional processing capability of an optical processor and nonlinear mapping capability of a neural network. The optical processor with a binary phase only filter is used as a preprocessor for feature extraction and the neural network is used as a decision system through mapping. OptiNeural system is trained for optical pattern classification by use of a simulated annealing algorithm. Its classification performance for grey tone texture patterns is excellent, while a conventional optical system shows poor classification performance.

  • This study develops an optimal two-dimensional (2D) pattern from three-dimensional human scan data by considering the cycling posture and dermatome of high school male cyclists. By analyzing the body surface change in the cycling posture and considering the dermatome of the lower limbs, the optimal cutting line setting and the development of cycling tights for individual cyclists were presented to provide data that could be used in the clothing industry. We designed three cycling tights to solve the size unsuitability. 3D design 1 is a non-extension design based on the analysis of the 3D human body scan data, in which parts were connected diagonally from the front of the knee to the back of the knee. 3D design 2 removed both the front and back to reduce air resistance during cycling. 3D design 3 did not have a cutting line on the front panel because of the air resistance during cycling in the front area. We analyzed the garment pressure for 8 points of lower body and performed a subjective evaluation of the 3D designed tights and the current cycling tights. The 3D design 1 in this study was well received in the omphalion, thigh, and hip area, while 3D design 3 was well received in the omphalion, thigh, hip, and bottom bands. Therefore, the LoNE of 3D design 1 was applied to the front, and the hip cutting line of 3D design 3 was applied to the back.

  • Generally, binary pattern transforms have been used in the field of the face recognition and facial expression, since they are robust to illumination. Thus, this paper proposes an illumination-robust face recognition system combining an MLDP, which improves the texture component of the LDP, and a 2D-PCA algorithm. Unlike that binary pattern transforms such as LBP and LDP were used to extract histogram features, the proposed method directly uses the MLDP image for feature extraction by 2D-PCA. The performance evaluation of proposed method was carried out using various algorithms such as PCA, 2D-PCA and Gabor wavelets-based LBP on Yale B and CMU-PIE databases which were constructed under varying lighting condition. From the experimental results, we confirmed that the proposed method showed the best recognition accuracy.

  • A distinctive difference of hydrocarbon in crude oil and petroleum products exists. Depending on the origin where it comes from, crude oil shows its own unique pattern which is different from petroleum products containing characteristics according to their operating process and production period. A process of mixing behavior in a tank containing residual amounts of oil draws its own pattern when analysis is conducted. The analytical process described above is named oil fingerprint method. This study investigates an effectiveness of the method for comparing data sets produced by conventional gas chromatography with mass spectrometer (GC/MS) and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC X GC) which is known as powerful new technology for chemical analysis.

  • Two-dimensional nano-patterns are fabricated using immersion holographic lithography. The photoresist layer is exposed to an interference pattern generated by two incident laser beams($\lambda$=441.6 nm, He-Cd laser) of which the pitch size is less than 200 nm. Good surface profiles of the 2 dimensional patterns are achieved by trimming the lithography process parameters, such as, exposure time, developing time and refractive index of medium liquid.

  • In this Paper, we develop an improved branch and bound algorithm for the (un)weighted unconstrained two-dimensional cutting problem. In the proposed algorithm, we improve the branching strategies of the existing exact algorithm and reduce the size of problem by removing the dominated pieces from the problem. We apply the newly Proposed definition of dominated cutting pattern and it can reduce the number of nodes that must be searched during the algorithm procedure. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is presented through comparison with the exact algorithm known as the most efficient.
