The cladding temperatures and axial mass distribution computed by MAAP5 were compared with their measured values in the test bundle of the Phebus Test FPT0. The computed cladding temperatures were in good agreed with the measured values in the pre-transient phase. In the transient heat-up phase, the computed temperatures were overestimated by the Baker-Just correlation in MAAP5, but the computed temperatures could simulate the subsequently measured values. The computed mass distribution in the axial direction was in qualitative agreement with the measured one for post-test fuel damage observations. The calculated flow areas of inner and outer regions in the test bundle were compared with the photographic observations. MAAP5 computed them at the height of 0.2 m where the molten pool formed was in qualitative agreement with the photographic observations. It was found that the remaining steam flow paths might be caused by the gas-liquid two-phase flow counter-current flow limitation.

This study is concerned with the development of efficient p-median approach to nondegenerate cell formation(CF) in group technology(GT) manufacturing. Unlike most of existing CF methodologies allowing degenerate cells or families that contains no parts or machines, this study attempts to find cell configuration where each machine cell contains at least two or more machines processing at least two or more parts so as to fully utilize the similarity in designing and processing parts. Nondegenerate CF seeks to minimize both the exceptional elements outside the diagonal block and the voids within the diagonal block. To find nondegenerate cells, a two-phase p-median methodology is proposed. In phase 1, the classical p-median model is implemented to find initial cells. In phase 2, bottleneck machines and parts are reassigned until no further degenerate cells and families are found. Test results on moderately medium-sized CF problems show the substantial efficiency of the proposed approach.
The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of $CO_{2}$ are substantially different from those for CFC and HCFC refrigerants. In addition, geometric effects on two-phase flow patterns of $CO_{2}$ are also very significant in many respects. Therefore, two-phase flow patterns of $CO_{2}$ in a narrow rectangular channel or a small diameter tube whose gap size or hydraulic diameter is less than 2 mm are very important to understand heat transfer characteristics and to develop an appropriate heat transfer correlation. In the present study, the evaporation process of $CO_{2}$ in a narrow rectangular channel is visualized at various test conditions, and then the effects of operating conditions are analyzed.

Flow pattern of air-water two phase flow depends on the conditions of pressure void fraction and channel geometry. We classify the flow pattern by measuring the output signal of the conductivity probe. under the classified flow pattern we mount a visualization equipment on the test section and take pictures. We vary the concentration of pure solvent and polymer to measure local void fraction. We know that the maximum point position of local void fraction distribution move from the center of the pipe to the wall of the pipe as JSL increase when JSA is constant in two phase flow. But we find that the maximum point position of local void friction move from the wal of the pipe to the center of the pipe when polymer concentration increase.
It is well known that drag reduction in single phase liquid flow is affected by polymer material, molecular weight, polymer concentration, pipe diameter, and flow velocity. Drag reduction in two phase flow can be applied to the transport of crude oil, phase change system such as chemical reactor, pool and boiling flow, and to present cavitation which occurs in pump impellers. But the research of drag reduction in two phase flow is not sufficient. The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop, void fraction whether polymer is added in the horizontal two phase system or not. Experiment has been conducted in a test section with 24 m of the inner diameter and 1,500 mm of the length. The used polymer materials are two kinds of polyacrylamide[PAAM] and co-polymer[A611P]. The polymer concentration was varied with 50, 100 and 200 ppm under the same experimental conditions. Experimental results were shown that the drag is higher reduced by co-polymer rather than polyanylamide.

The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop, void fraction, mean liquid velocity, and turbulent intensity whether polymer is added in the horizontal two phase system or not. Experiment has been conducted in a test section with the inner diameter of 24mm and the length of 1,500mm. The polymer materials used are two kinds of polyacrylamide[PAAM] and co-polymer[A611P]. Experimental results showed that the drag reduction of co-polymer is higher than that of polyacrylamide. Mean liquid velocities increased as polymer was added, and turbulent intensity decreased inversely near the pipe wall.

The characteristics about the pressure drop in microtubes have been investigated. The test tubes are the circular, seamless, stainless steel tubes with an inner diameter of 0.244, 0.430, and 0.792 mm, respectively. R-l34a was used as a test fluid. Early flow transition which has been reported in some previous studies is not found in single-phase flow pressure drop tests. The conventional theory between friction factor and Reynolds number predicted the experimental friction factors within an absolute average deviation of $8.9\%$. The two-phase flow pressure drop increases for higher quality and mass flux, and for reduced inner diameter. The existing correlations fail to predict the experimental data. A new correlation to predict the two-phase flow pressure drop is developed in the form of the Lockhart-Martinelli correlation. The effects of the tube diameter and the surface tension were considered, and the correlation predicted the experimental data within an average absolute deviation of $8.1\%$.

A core catcher is considered as a promising engineered system to stabilize the molten corium in the containment during a postulated severe accident in a nuclear power plant. Conceptually, the core catcher consists of a carbon steel body, sacrificial material, protection material, and engineered cooling channel. The cooling capacity of the engineered cooling channel should be guaranteed to remove the decay heat of the molten corium. The flow in ex-vessel core catcher is a combined problem of a two-phase flow in the engineered cooling channel and a single-phase natural circulation in the whole core catcher system. In this study, the analysis of the test facility for the core catcher using the CUPID code, which is a three-dimensional thermal-hydraulic code for the simulation of two-phase flows, was carried out to evaluate its cooling capacity.
An analysis is made for the performance of twin stator single-phase induction machine having any movable asymmetrical angle of stator windings, with any symmetrical or asymmetrical magnetizing reactance and winding turn-ratio between two stators, provided that asymmetrical common squirrel cage rotor is utilized. This mechanism is a new type, which has the advantage of mading only not the performance prediction in applications as a single-phase electromagnetic driving mechanism but also the analysis prediction of single-phase induction motor with not in quadrature axis. The basis of the analyses are lead by Kron's primitive machine matrix and Morrill's double-revolving field concept. All the performances can be calculated from the test values and design details of the asymmetrical magnetizing reactance twin stator single-phase induction machine and verified by test. And its validity is still demonstrated to the pure twin stator single-phase induction machine.

The present paper deals with the extension of AUSMPW+ scheme into two-fluid model for multiphase flow. AUSMPW+ scheme is the improvement of a single-phase AUSM+ scheme by designing pressure-based weighting functions to prevent oscillations near a wall and shock instability after a strong shock. Recently, Kitamura and Liou assessed a family of AUSM-type schemes with two-fluid model governing equations [K. Kitamura and M.-S. Liou, Comparative study of AUSM-Family schemes in compressible multi-phase flow simulations, ICCFD7-3702 (2012)]. It was observed that the direct application of the single-phase AUSMPW+ did not provide satisfactory results for most of numerical test cases, which motivates the current study. It turns out that, by designing pressure-based weighting functions, which play a key role in controlling numerical diffusion for two-fluid model, problems reported in can be overcome. Various numerical experiments validate the proposed modification of AUSMPW+ scheme is accurate and robust to solve multiphase flow within the framework of two-fluid model.
