In the agricultural field, interests in research using robots for fruit harvesting are continuously increasing. Dual arm manipulators are promising because of its abilities like task-distribution and role-sharing. To operate it efficiently, the task sequence must be planned adequately. In our previous study, a collision-free path planning method based on a genetic algorithm is proposed for dual arm manipulators doing tasks cooperatively. However, in order to simplify the complicated collision-check problem, the movement between tasks of two robots should be synchronized, and thus there is a problem that the robots must wait and resume their movement. In this paper, we propose a heuristic algorithm that can reduce the total time of the optimal solution obtained by using the previously proposed genetic algorithm. It iteratively desynchronizes the task sequence of two robots and reduces the waiting time. For evaluation, the proposed algorithm is applied to the same work as the previous study. As a result, we can obtain a faster solution having 22.57 s than that of the previous study having 24.081 s. It will be further studied to apply the proposed algorithm to the fruit harvesting.
This paper presents a motion coordination of two robot manipulators coordinating an object. To coordinate the object, a force/position control scheme in a mode of leaer/follower is devised. The dynamics of the object are incorporated into the dynamics of the leader arm, which yields a reduced order model of two arm system. In order to regulate interaction forces between two arm, the dynamics of the follower arm are expressed as force dynamic equations such that a novel direct forces between two arms and two different type of bounded input disturbances, boundedness and asymptotic stability results based on a proposed Lyapunov function are shown. Also, a sufficient condition for a stability robustness is derived based on the Lyapunov approach.
A control system for improving the moving accuracy of robotic manipulators with elastic joints is devloped. The dynamics of manipulator system is splitted into two sub-dynamics; of arm-link and actuator rotor- link, which are coupled statically through joint torque. Two contorl loops are implemented respectively around both sub-dynamic systems. Computed torque algorithm with acceleration feedback is used for the arm-link control loop, and for the actuator rotor-link control loop PID algorithm is adopted. The resulting control system is tested through a series of computer simulation for a PUMA type manipulator, The reaults show good performance of the developed control system for wide range of joint stiffness and moving speed.
This paper presents a method to optimize motion planning for industrial manipulators with redundancy. For optimal motion planning, first of all, particular inverse kinematic solution is needed to improve efficiency for manipulators with redundancy working in various environments. In this paper, we propose three kinds of methods for solving inverse kinematics problems; numerical and combined approach. Also, we introduce methods for optimal motion planning using potential function considering the order of priority. For efficient movement in industrial settings, this paper presents methods to plan motions by considering colliding obstacles, joint limits, and interference between whole arms. To confirm improved performance of robot applying the proposed algorithms, we use two kinds of robots with redundancy. One is a single arm robot with 7DOF and another is a dual arm robot with 15DOF which consists of left arm, right arm with each 7DOF, and a torso part with 1DOF. The proposed algorithms are verified through several numerical examples as well as by real implementation in robot controllers.
The purpose of our sensor system is to transparentize the large hydraulic manipulators of a six-ton dual arm excavator from the operator camera view. Almost 40% of the camera view is blocked by the manipulators. In other words, the operator loses 40% of visual information which might be useful for many manipulator control scenarios such as clearing debris on a disaster site. The proposed method is based on a 3D reconstruction technology. By overlaying the camera image from front top of the cabin with the point cloud data from RGB-D (red, green, blue and depth) cameras placed at the outer side of each manipulator, the manipulator-free camera image can be obtained. Two additional algorithms are proposed to further enhance the productivity of dual arm excavators. First, a color correction algorithm is proposed to cope with the different color distribution of the RGB and RGB-D sensors used on the system. Also, the edge overlay algorithm is proposed. Although the manipulators often limit the operator's view, the visual feedback of the manipulator's configurations or states may be useful to the operator. Thus, the overlay algorithm is proposed to show the edge of the manipulators on the camera image. The experimental results show that the proposed transparentization algorithm helps the operator get information about the environment and objects around the excavator.
For free motions, vibration suppression of single flexible manipulators has been one of the hottest research topics. However, for cooperative motions of multiple flexible manipulators, a little effort has been devoted for the vibration suppression control. So, the aim of this paper is to develop a hybrid force/position control and vibration suppression control scheme for multiple cooperation flexible manipulators handling a rigid object. In order to clarify the discussion, the motions of dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, Experiments are performed, and a comparison of experimental results is given to clarify the validity of our control scheme.
In this paper a new two-arm cooperative assembly(or insertion) algorithm is proposed. As a force-guided control method for the cooperative assembly the adaptive accommodation controller is adopted since it does not require any complicated contact state analysis nor depends of the geometrical complexity of the assembly parts. Also the RMRC(resolved motion rate control) method using a relative jacobian is used to solve inverse kinematics for two manipulators. By using the relative jacobian the two cooperative redundant manipulators can be formed as a new single redundant manipulator. Two arms can perform a variety of insertion tasks by using a relative motion between their end effectors. A force/torque sensing model using an approximated penetration depth calculation a, is developed and used to compute a contact force/torque in the graphic assembly simulation . By using the adaptive accommodation controller and the force/torque sensing model both planar and a spatial cooperative assembly tasks have been successfully executed in the graphic simulation. Finally through a cooperative assembly task experiment using a humanoid robot CENTAUR which inserts a spatially bent pin into a hole its feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithm verified.
In this paper, our aim is to develop a model for two cooperating flexible manipulators handling a rigid object by using lumped parameters. This model is in turn analyzed on MATLAB. In order to validate the model, a precise simulation model is developed using $ADAMS^{TM}$ (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System). Moreover, to clarify the discussion, the motions of a dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with a symmetric hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, experiments and simulations are performed, and a comparison of simulation results with experimental results is given to a rerify the validity of our model.
An unified compliant control algorithm to regulate the force by dual arms is proposed, where tow arms are treated as one arm in a kinematic viewpoint. The force error calculated form the information of two force/torque sensors attached to the end of each arm is transferred to minimum actuator coordinates, and then is distributed to total system actuator coordinates. The position adjustment at the total actuator coordinates is computed based on the effective computed based on the effective compliance matrix with respect to total actuator coordinates, which is obtained by coordinate transformation between the task coordinates and the total actuator coordinates. An experiment is carried out for dual arms with asymmetric kinematic structure to control an interaction force between manipulators and the environment. The performances of the proposed control algorithm are experimentally compared to those of dual arms employing master/slave scheme. The proposed compliant control algorithm not only ouperforms other algorithms, but also can be treated as an unified approach n the sense that it can be applied to arbitrary dual arm systems with general kinematic structures.
We propose a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of an adaptive controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors in this paper. The Texas Instruments DSPs(TMS320C80) chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved direct Lyapunov method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a dual arm robot consisting of two 4-d.o.f. robots at the joint space and cartesian space.
