  • The noise levels of workers in tunnel sites are likely to be high because tunneling work places are confined space. However, research on the noise exposure levels of tunneling workers have not been performed intensively due to restricted accessibility to tunnel construction sites. The aim of this study is to evaluate the noise exposure levels for workers engaged in tunneling work sites. Noise dosimeters were used for monitoring workers' noise exposure level in 5 tunneling work sites in accordance with the Notification of the Ministry of Labor. Among 5 tunneling work sites, 4 of them used NATM tunneling method and 1 work site used shield TBM tunneling method. The average noise exposure levels of NATM tunneling workers was 81.1 dB(A) and 15.4 % of the workers' noise level were exposed more than 90 dB(A) which is the exposure limit value. In Shield TBM tunneling method, 4.3 % of the workers were exposed more than 90 dB(A) of noise level, the average noise exposure levels of TBM tunneling workers was 84.1 dB(A).

  • This paper proposes compression of image data using neural networks based on conjugate gradient method and dynamic tunneling system. The conjugate gradient method is applied for high speed optimization .The dynamic tunneling algorithms, which is the deterministic method with tunneling phenomenon, is applied for global optimization. Converging to the local minima by using the conjugate gradient method, the new initial point for escaping the local minima is estimated by dynamic tunneling system. The proposed method has been applied the image data compression of 12 ${\times}$12 pixels. The simulation results shows the proposed networks has better learning performance , in comparison with that using the conventional BP as learning algorithm.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method for improving the training performance of the neural network using a hybrid of backpropagation algorithm and dynamic tunneling system. The backpropagation algorithm, which is the fast gradient descent method, is applied for high-speed optimization. The dynamic tunneling system, which is the deterministic method iwth a tunneling phenomenone, is applied for blobal optimization. Converging to the local minima by using the backpropagation algorithm, the approximate initial point for escaping the local minima is estimated by the pattern classification, and the simulation results show that the performance of proposed method is superior th that of backpropagation algorithm with randomized initial point settings.

  • In recent years, it is required that computing support mobile user with computer. The advantage of mobile computing is that users may access all their applications from any location, whether they are in another building or a different state. So, Internet combines with mobile computing technology to make new communication environment for supporting mobility. The research for solving the problem of mobility is actively in progress. This paper describes the implementation of tunneling method for flexible bypass between specific region. Tunneling method provide mobile service to mobile hosts. IP datagram's address tranform method is IP-within-IP encapsulation by which an IP datagram may be encapsulated within an IP datagram. The developed IP-within-IP protocol can provide not only enhanced performance because it is implemented in kernel mode, but also convenience of usage to the application developers because it gives user interface as a dynamic link library. Verification of IP packet tunneling was text file transfer program.

  • Tunneling is a very dangerous and expansive work. Especially, the concrete lining works need many long hours and much cost. As an alternative, the unlined tunneling methods including NMT have been developed in various country. These methods have advantages in cost, time and quality. In Korea, many considerations have been conducted to apply the unlined tunneling method in comparatively good rock. Since primary reinforcements play the role of the final supporting system in unlined tunnels, the initial stiffness and long term durability of reinforcements are very important for tunnel safety. To establish the reinforcements standard suitable to Korea, we investigated the foreign standards and construction cases, comparing geological and construction conditions of foreign land and Korea. As the result, we have proposed the standard of primary supporting system for unlined tunnel in aspects of material, design, construction and quality control etc.

  • Shield TBM tunneling method has been getting the spotlight for urban tunneling. It can be minimized the civil complaint during construction and possible safe tunneling. But the settlement has occurred inevitably due to characteristics of shield TBM equipment. For this reason, the civil complaint can occur in urban areas when tunnel with shallow depth passes through neighboring building or residential area. In this study, the occurrence factors of settlement according to shield TBM tunneling and the tendency of ground settlement by strata condition had analyzed. It is suggested that the practical settlement estimation method and minimizing method of ground settlement under simultaneous backfill grouting condition through measurement results and back analysis data using gap parameter.

  • This paper presents a limit analysis of the series of construction stages of shallow tunneling method by investigating their respective safety factors and failure mechanisms. A case study for one particular cross-section of Beijing Subway Line 7 is undertaken, with a focus on the effects of multiple soil layers and construction sequencing of dual tunnels. Results show that using the step-excavation technique can render a higher safety factor for the excavation of a tunnel compared to the entire cross-section being excavated all at once. The failure mechanisms for each different construction stage are discussed and corresponding key locations are suggested to monitor the safety during tunneling. Simultaneous excavation of dual tunnels in the same cross-section should be expressly avoided considering their potential negative interactions. The normal and shear forces as well as bending moment of the primary lining and locking anchor pipe are found to reach their maximum value at Stage 6, before closure of the primary lining. Designing these struts should consider the effects of different construction stages of shallow tunneling method.

  • We examined the tunneling current behaviors of magnetic tunneling junction (MTJ) cells utilizing conductive atomic force microscopy (AFM) interfaced with an external magnetic field generator. By introducing current through coils, a magnetic field was generated and then controlled by a current feedback circuit. This enabled the characterization of the tunneling current under various magnetic fields. The current-voltage (I-V) property was measured using a contact mode AFM with a metal coated conducting cantilever at a specific magnetic field intensity. The obtained magnetoresistance (MR) ratios of the MTJ cells were about 21% with no variation seen from the different sized MTJ cells; the value of resistance $\times$ area (RA) were 8.5 K-12.5 K $({\Omega}{\mu}m^2)$. Since scanning probe microscopy (SPM) performs an I-V behavior analysis of ultra small size without an extra electrode, we believe that this novel characterization method utilizing an SPM will give a great benefit in characterizing MTJ cells. This novel method gives us the possibility to measure the electrical properties of ultra small MTJ cells, namely below $0.1\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;0.1\;{\mu}m$.

  • The use of shield is increasing day by day, because it's method is advantageous tunneling method to soft and collapsible ground. In case of analyzing shield tunnel by FEM, short term behavior of ground by initial heaving and tail void closure and long terms of it because of consolidation by changes of pore pressures in clay must be considered. In this paper, the shield tunneling construction stages was analyzed from 2 dimensional elasto - viscoplastic finite element program used Mohr - Coulomb yield criterion but not considered the changes of pore pressures. The object of investigation was N - 2 Tunnel. Since the good results of analysis compared to the measured behavior of ground for heaving, tail void closure and liner installation, this results can be applied to design and construction of shield tunneling for the subways, sewage lines etc.
