  • This study was performed to investigate the behavior of vapor phase of fuel mixtures with different piston bowl shapes(F, B, and R-type) in a optically accessible engine. The images of liquid and vapor phases were captured in the motoring engine using exciplex fluorescence method. Fuel was injected into atmospheric nitrogen to prevent quenching phenomenon by oxygen. Injection pressure is 5.1MPa. Two dimensional spray fluorescence image of vapor phases was acquired to analyze spray behaviors and fuel distribution inside of cylinder. Four injection timings were set at BTDC $90^{\circ},\;80^{\circ},\;70^{\circ},\;and\;60^{\circ}$. With a fuel injection timing of BTDC $90^{\circ}$, fuel-rich mixture level in the center region was highest in a B-type piston. With a fuel injection timing of BTDC $60^{\circ}$, R-type piston was best. R-type piston shape was suitable under enhanced swirl ratio and late injection condition and B-type piston shape was right in a weak swirl ratio. It was found that the piston bowl shape affected the mixture stratification inside of cylinder.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children's multiple intelligences and temperaments on their play behaviors. In order to achieve this, 155 mothers and 21 teachers of children aged 4 to 6 years old were invited to participate in an observe-reported survey. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS version 18.0. It was found that both multiple intelligences and temperament types have partial influences on play behaviors of young children; it was confirmed that among multiple intelligences of children, logical-mathematical intelligence influences onlooker behaviors in a positive way, body-kinesthetic intelligence has a positive effect on rough-and-tumble play, and musical intelligence positively affects social play during free-choice play. Also, children with a difficult temperament were more likely to participate in solitary play than children with a slow temperament. These results imply that teachers' guidance and involvement of children's play should differ by types of temperament and levels of multiple intelligence in children.

  • This study evaluate the effect of laundering on the deformation of knitted spandex/cotton fabrics compared with that of knitted cotton fabrics. Commercial knitted spandex/cotton and knitted cotton fabrics for T-shits were laundered in a drum-type washing machine and dried in a tumble dryer. Wale spirality, shrinkage, elastic recovery and surface contour of knitted fabrics were investigated under different laundering conditions: washing temperature, presoaking time and washing cycles. Knitted spandex/cotton fabrics had a lower angle of spirality than knitted cotton fabrics. After the first washing cycle, the angles of spirality of all the fabrics had decreased greatly. Knitted cotton fabric of low density deformed more than that of higher density. Knitted spandex/cotton. fabric of low density shrank less, because of the greater extension given during heat-set. Permanent elongation length at the 80$\%$ extension was longer than at the 50$\%$ extension, and the knitted spandex/cotton fabric which was expanded greatly during heat-set had a lower elastic recovery rate. The surface appearance of the knitted spandex/cotton fabrics was worsl~ than that of the knitted cotton fabrics before laundering and after repeated laundering, because of the much protruded cotton fibers from the yarns.

  • It is well known that the flow and spray characteristics is critical factor on the performance and emission of a direct injection diesel engine. So this study aims to investigate the interaction of flow and spray characteristics. At first, in cylinder flow distributions in swirl adaptor for 4-valve cylinder head of DI Diesel engine were investigated under steady conditions for different SCV angles mounted on the cylinder head with steady rig test and 2-D LDV. And the in-cylinder flow was quantified in terms of mean flow coefficient and swirl ratio/tumble ratio. It was found that the swirl ratio is controlled between 2.3 and 3.8. Then spray characteristics of the intermittent injection were investigated. PDA system was utilized for measurement of a droplet size and velocity. The analyses of the PDA results are carried out with Time Dividing Method. It was found that there is a correlation between the swirl flow and SMD. The droplet size and the velocity were nearly constant value with each SCV angle. And the swirl ratio is higher, SMD smaller. The swirl ratio was helpful factor to the atomization of droplet.

  • The flow and combustion patterns have been investigated inside the gasoline engine cylinder with the swirl or tumble flow, whereas the air flow characteristics, which are generated in the part of intake system before entering into the intake manifold, have not been known completely. It is necessary to analyze the flow field in the intake system consisting of air rater, throttle valve and intake manifold. The throttle valve, used to control the intake air flow rate, is important because it makes various mass flow rate and flow patterns. Three-dimen-sional How characteristics such as velocities, turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stresses are measured by the hot wire anemometer at the exit of the throttle valve with the variation in the valve opening angle($15^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$) and the Reynolds numbers (45000, 70000 and 140000). There are a lot of changes in flow characteristics at $75^{\circ}$ due to the large recirculation flow comparing with those of the other cases, and the streamwise velocity is especially enforced strongly below the valve shaft. The other component velocities are relatively large near the centerline parallel to the valve shaft. The effects of the Reynolds number on the flow field are not severe.

  • A new combustion method of high compression ratio SI engine was studied and proposed in order to achieve high thermal efficiency, comparable to that of CI engine. Compression ratio of SI engine is generally restricted by the knocking phenomena. A combustion chamber profile and a cranking mechanism were studied to avoid knocking with high compression ratio. Because reducing the end-gas temperature will suppress knocking, a combustion chamber was considered to have a wide surface at the end-gas region. However, wide surface will lead to large heat loss, which may cancel the gain of higher compression ratio operation. Thereby, a special cranking mechanism was adapted which allowed the piston to move rapidly near TDC. Numerical simulations were performed to optimize the cranking mechanism for achieving high thermal efficiency. An elliptic gear system and a leaf-shape gear system were employed in numerical simulations. Livengood-Wu integral, which is widely used to judge knocking occurrence, was calculated to verify the effect for the new concept. As a result, this concept can be operated at compression ratio of fourteen using a regular gasoline. A new single cylinder engine with compression ratio of twelve and TGV(Tumble Generation Valve) to enhance the turbulence and combustion speed was designed and built for proving its performance. The test results verified the predictions. Thermal efficiency was improve over 10% with compression ratio of twelve compared to an original engine with compression ratio of ten when strong turbulence was generated using TGV, leading to a fast combustion speed and reduced heat loss.

  • The overall concept of the interior space on a vehicle, which is related to the exterior design presents a new turning point at the body design concept on a vehicle and it means the interior space on a vehicle has the largest portion. The concept of the roominess at the interior space is consisted on many physical dimensions for the comfort of passengers, but these elements should be considered also as the result of the dynamic reflections of the characteristics of market demand, and it is not only to designate the physical dimensions and positions of the interior design elements, but also to influence to the total body shape of the vehicle. These days the concept of the interior space is now on the way of changing which is not limited only to the passenger car. The change is more evident especially at the total body shape which is not only the details of the exterior style and it would expend to other type of vehicles.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of revegetation technique for water attacking point using waterlogged prevention frame revetment. In this study, we evaluate frame revetment stability, water quality, plant growth and ecological and envirnomental changes in Mooshim streamside landscape. The results are as follows; 1) The waterlogged prevention frame revetment appeared to be stable despite of two big floods. The materials used for the revetment were not eroded on the water attacking point. Thus, we confirmed the effect of scour prevention of the frame work. 2) The effects of the frame revetment on the water quality appeared to be good for the surrounding environment. Dissolved Oxygen(DO) was higher about $0.4{\sim}0.6mg/{\ell}$ at the frame revetment than that of the main stream flow. pH value was lower about 0.4~0.5. Electric Conductivity(EC) showed lower about $0.8{\sim}1.1{\mu}s/cm$. at submersion prevent frame than the low-flow of the stream. Turbidity was lower about $0.6{\sim}1.2mg/{\ell}$. 3) As the effects on ecological and environmental conditions, we discovered a number of carassius auratus and Zacco platypus in the frame revetment area. Also, sympetrum balteata, coenagrionidae was observed frequently. 4) The plant growth did not appear to tumble or wither despite of two big floods. The visual rating of plant growth was evaluated as medium (around 5 point) 5) The landscape analysis derived four factors(i.e. the harmony, the variation, the flexibility and the provincial characteristics) from the factor analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural properties of 100% wool fabrics knitted with various stitch types and to evaluate dimensional stability from shrinkage in wet cleaning and drying. Materials were weft-knitted from twenty-four different stitches with 7 gauge using a computerized flatbed knitting machine. Weight, thickness, density, and length were measured. A domestic washing machine and a tumble dryer were used for the shrinkage test. The results are as follows: Knitted fabrics were divided into 3 groups based on weight per unit area. Porous knits show light weight whilst milano, pintuck, rib stitches belong to the heaviest group. A positive correlation between weight and thickness was found and the same result was obtained for wale density and weight. Dimensional shrinkage of knitted fabrics was increased during repetitive wet cleaning and drying regardless of knit stitches. Especially, fabrics knitted with float, tuck, cable, and links & links stitches samples were contracted more than 15% in the first treatment whereas 2x1 rib stitch showed 1% shrinkage rate. Fisherman and milano stitches contracted in both course and wale direction with similar shrinkage rates. However, porous knits with float and tuck stitches shrank in course direction by 20% as well as cable samples contracted from 5% to 20% after repeated washing and drying. On the other hand, 30% and 15% contraction of wale direction occurred in orderly float and links & links stitches, respectively. Machine dried knits have a higher shrinkage rate than air-dried knits, but the drying method did not affect to the direction of contraction. In conclusion, variations of knit, tuck, and float stitches affect knit construction and dimensional stability from shrinkage in wet cleaning and drying of wool knitted fabrics.
