A Design of GA-based Fuzzy Controller and Truck Backer-Upper Control (GA 기반 퍼지 제어기의 설계 및 트럭 후진제어)

  • In this paper, we construct a hybrid intelligent controller based on a fusion scheme of GA(Genetic Algorithm) and FCM(Fuzzy C-Means) clustering-based ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System). In the structure identification, a set of fuzzy rules are generated for a given criterion by FCM clustering algorithm. In the parameter identification, premise parameters are optimally searched by adaptive GA. On the other hand, consequent parameters are estimated by RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimate) to reduce the search space. Finally, we applied the proposed method to the truck backer-upper control and obtained a better performance than previous works.

  • Fuzzy theory has been used effectively to control the nonlinear system since Mamdani successively adopted fuzzy theory in the steam-engine control problem in 1973. Truckbacker-upper control problem originally proposed by Nguyen and Widrow become a standard highly nonlinear control problem. In this paper, we designed adaptive fuzzy membership functions for speed control as well as steering control. In other words, an adaptive fuzzy control system for truck backer-upper problem useful for practical adaptation is proposed. Experimental results by simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • Fuzzy Systems which are based on membership functions and rules, can control nonlinear, uncertain, complex systems well. However, Fuzzy logic controller(FLC) has problems: It is some difficult to design the stable FLC for a beginner. Because FLC depends mainly on individual experience. Sliding control is a powerful robust method to control nonlinearities and uncertain parameters systems. But it has a chattering problem by discontinuous control input according to sliding surface. Therfore it needs to be smoothed to achieve an optimal input. In this paper, To solve problems desinged Fuzzy Sliding Control. The effictiveness of result is shown by the simulation and the experimental test for Truck Backer-Upper Control.

  • In a fuzzy control system to vocess fuzzy data in high-speed for intelligent systems, one of the important problems is the improvement of the execution speed in the fuzzy inference and defuzzification stages. Especially, it is more important to have high-speed operations in the consequent Pan and defuzzification stage. Therefore, in this paper, to improve the speedup of the fuzzy controllers for intelligent systems, we propose novel integer fuzzy operation method without mulitplications and divisions by only integer addition to convert real values in the fuzzy membership functions in the consequent part to integer grid pixels $(400{\times}30)$ without [0, 1] real operations. Also we apply the proposed system to the truck backer-upper control system. As a result, this system shows a real-time very high speed fuzzy control as compared as the conventional methods. This system will be applied to the real-time high-speed intelligent systems such as robot arm control.

  • Fuzzy system which are based on membership functions and rules, can control nonlinear, uncertian, complex system well. However, Fuzzy controller has problems: It is difficult to design a stable for amateur. To update the then-part membership functions of the fuzzy controller can be designed using the Optimal fuzzy controller. Then we could be optimized the system choosing a good performance index. The proposed fuzzy controller based on Optimal fuzzy control is an Truck-Backer for demonstration of the robustness of proposed methodology.

An Optimal COA Defuzzifier for a Fuzzy Logic controller (퍼지 논리 제어기를 위한 최적의 COA 비퍼지화기)

  • This paper proposes an optimal COA(Center Of Area) defuzzification method that improves the contr~lp erformance of a fuzzy logic controller. The defuzzification method incorporates both the membership values and the effective span of membership function6 in calculating a crisp value. An optimal effective span is determined automatically by the genetic algorithm thrqugh the training of some typical examples. Simulation of the proposed COA defuzzifier to the truck backer-upper control problem is presented and the control performance of the praposed COA defuzzifier outperforms that of the conventional COA defuzzifier by more than 20% in terms of ayerage tracing distance.

  • In this paper, we present an approach to the structure identification based on the input space partition methods and to the parameter identification by hybrid learning method in neuro-fuzzy system. The structure identification can automatically estimate the number of membership function and fuzzy rule using grid partition, tree partition, scatter partition from numerical input-output data. And then the parameter identification is carried out by the hybrid learning scheme using back-propagation and least squares estimate. Finally, we sill show its usefulness for neuro-fuzzy modeling to truck backer-upper control.

  • This paper compares performance of neural and fuzzy truck backer-upper control systems. Conventional controllers require a mathematical model of how outputs depend on inputs. Neural and fuzzy control systems offer a key advantage over conventional control systems. They are model-free controllers. Neural networks learn a control process by examples (training samples). Fuzzy systems directly encode designer's experience as IF-THEN rules. For robustness test, we gradually removed training samples for the neural controller, and fuzzy rules for the fuzzy system. The errors increased laster in the neural controller than in the fuzzy system.

  • The application of genetic algorithms to fuzzy rule generation holds a great deal of promise in overcoming difficult problems in fuzzy systems design. There are some aspects to be considered when genetic algorithms are used for generating fuzzy rules. In this paper, we will present an aspect about the control surface constructed by the resultant rules. In the extensive simulations, an important observation that the rules searched by genetic algorithms are randomly scattered is made and a solution to this problem is provided by including a smoothness cost in the objective function. We apply the fuzzy rules generated by genetic algorithms to the fuzzy truck backer-upper control system and compare them with the rules made by an expert.
