The Effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and Microampere Electrical Nerve Stimulation on Sympathetic Tone in Healthy Subjects (경피신경전기자극과 미세전류자극이 정상인의 교감신경 긴장도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two different forms of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) and one of microcurrent high voltage pulsed galvanic current(HVPC) on sympathetic tone in healthy subjects. Fourty subjects received TENS(20) and PVPC(30) during short time(20min). Left finger tip skin temperatures were measured at four interval for each treatment : 1) before treatment, 2) after 10 minutes treatment, 3)after 20 minutes treatment, and 4) after 10 minutes rest. The results were as follows. 1) TENS treatment group increased skin temperature after treatment 20 minutes, but HVPC treatment increased akin temperature after 10 minutes and recovered normal skin temperature after 10 minutes treatment. It means that short time(20min) electrical stimulation decreased sympathetic activities. 2) Sympathetic activities of TENS stimulation were influenced by age, but HVPC were not. 3) During 10 minutes, both treatment increased sympathetic activities, but HVPC treatment reversed sympathetic activity more rapidly than TENS. 4) The changes of skin temperature means by sex, males in TENS treatment group were higher than females, but HVPC were reverted.

  • The effect of chitosan treatment on the dyeing and dye fastness, and mechanical properties of hair was investigated in this study when the carotinoid dyestuffs extracted from African Marigold(Tagetes erecta L.) were applied to the hair. The sequences of the chitosan treatment were changed in dyeing and mordanting procedures, i.e., pre-treatment, mid-treatment, and post-treatment. While the effect of chitosan application on the color shade change was not significant, the pre-treatment of the chitosan increased the dye uptake. Discoloration and fading was observed in the lightfastness test when chitosan was mid-treated. Alkali perspiration and acid perspiration fastness test results showed that chitosan post-treatment gave lower tendency. Washing fastness results showed that chitosan post-treatment and mid-treatment gave lower values, which indicates that chitosan deters the direct formation of insoluble complex among fiber-dyestuff-mordant. In the mechanical characteristics results, however, initial modulus and breaking strength increased significantly in the post-treatment and pre-treatment of chitosan.

CASE REPORT FOR TREATMENT OF PERIAPICAL LESION BY USING APICOECTOMY (치근단절제술을 이용한 치근단 병소의 치료에 대한 증례보고)

  • It has been reported that the operative treatment for the preservation of tooth having periapical lesion has shown over ninety percent of success whereas in the case where calcified canal is severe, canal is perforated, ledge is formed, tooth restored by post and core and cases where symptoms still exist after treatment, endodontic treatment may not all be the solution in attaining a successful treatment. Thus Apicoectomy would generally be used to prevent the loss of tooth having periapical lesion where treatment prognosis is poorly evaluated by endodontic treatment. In case 1 and 2, endodontic treatment was applied due to unilocular radiolucent lesion in periapical area but the symptoms somehow did not show improvement and therefore operated apicoectomy, and as in case 1, favorable results were attained but as in case 2, yet more observation has to be done. The followings are the results we have concluded : 1. In the process of endodontic treatment, absolute canal obturation has great effect on attaining successful treatment. 2. In cases where endodontic treatment is not highly recommended, for example, tooth having dental pulp and periapical lesion, favorable results can be attained by applying apicoectomy.

Surface Treatment Technology for Metal Corrosion Layer Focusing on Copper Alloy

  • Using alkali treatment solution, neutrality treatment solution and acid treatment solution, the surface corrosion layer of copper plates and bronze plates that have been artificially corroded using HCl, $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$ solutions were removed. In the case of alkali treatment solution, only air oxidation in the form of black tenorite and white cuproous chloride remained without being removed. In the case of using a neutrality treatment solution, a anhydrous type layer of reddish brown cupric chloride remained without being removed, together with this black and white corrosion substance. In the case of using an acid treatment solution, this red corrosion substance also remained, but all of the oxide was removed on the surface of the specimen that was treated by alternatively using alkali treatment solution and acid treatment solution. In the case of this treatment solution with the order of alkali-acid, oxidation no longer proceeded only through the distilled water cleaning process after treatment, thereby showing that oxidation from the cleaning solution no longer proceeded.

Korean Medical Treatment Including Space Spinal Conduction Exercise and Manipulation Treatment for Spondylolisthesis: Three Case Reports (척추전방전위증 환자에 대한 공간척추도인안교법을 포함한 한방치료 치험 3예)

  • To report the effect of an Korean medical treatment, including Space spinal conduction exercise and manipulation treatment for a patient suffering with spondylolisthesis. Three patients were treated by oriental medical treatment including acupuncture, oriental medicine, Space spinal conduction exercise and manipulation treatment and the results were assessed with a numerical rating scale (NRS), walking condition, and back pain, sciatica. After treatment, the NRS changed from 8~9 to 1~2 and walking condition get better. The patient's back pain and sciatica have improved. In this study, oriental medical treatment, including Space spinal conduction exercise and manipulation treatment was an effective treatment for patients with spondylolisthesis. However, additional studies are needed, as are more and observations of these patients.

A Study on the Comparison of Psychosocial Adjustment of Children with Cancer between on and off Treatment (치료 중인 암환아와 치료 종료 암환아의 사회심리적 적응에 관한 비교 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare psychosocial adjustment in children aged 4-11 years with cancer between on and off treatment. Method: The data was collected from parents of children with cancer through interviews with structured questionnaire at the pediatric outpatient department and inpatient ward of one university hospital located in Seoul. The instrument were the Child Behavior Check List(CBCL) developed by Achenbach(1991) and revised to standardize for Korean children by Oh et al(1997). Result: Total behavior problem score for children on treatment was greater than the score off treatment but there was no significant difference. Children on treatment reported higher levels of depression/anxiety, withdrawal, internalizing scores than children off treatment. Social competence score of children off treatment was greater than the score on treatment and the difference of school performance score of children between on and off treatment was not significant. The scores on the withdrawal, somatic complaints, social immaturity, internalizing scales in the cancer group including both on and off treatment was greater than normative findings in the general population. The scores on the school competence of children off treatment were lower than the norms for healthy children. Conclusion: Findings from this study support the importance of nursing interventions to facilitate the adjustment of children with cancer both on and off therapy.

Mucogingival surgery for patients under orthodontic treatment (교정 치료 중인 환자의 치주수술)

  • Gingival recession is one of the common mucogingival problems during the orthodontic treatment. The causes of the gingival recession are similar to gingival recession in patients with periodontal diseases. Accumulation of bacterial deposits around the natural teeth induces the gingival inflammation and gingival recession occurs in the teeth with the lack of the supporting bone. However, malpositioned teeth which are labially positioned teeth or rotated teeth are more risky for gingival recession. Once root is exposed to oral cavity due to gingival recession, the orthodontic tooth movement is compromised and esthetic problems appeared. In addition, excessive gingival recession over the mucogingival junction jeopardizes the oral hygiene control, which has a risk of further gingival recession and bone loss around the tooth. To cover exposed root or to prevent further gingival recession, mucogingival surgery with gingival graft is recommended for the patients under orthodontic treatment. This case report aimed to present the mucogingival treatments of gingival recession observed during orthodontic treatment. Case I had had initial slight gingival recession before the orthodontic treatment. However, during the retraction phases, the gingival recession progressed and the periodontal treatment was referred. In case II, miller Class III gingival recession was occurred after correction of rotation. Both cases were treated by coronally advanced flap with free gingival grafts and recovered to the level of adjacent teeth despite of complete root coverage was not achieved in Case II. After periodontal treatment, orthodontic treatment was successfully completed. In conclusion, mucogingival surgery during the orthodontic treatment is recommended for the successful orthodontic treatment as well as periodontal health.

Effect of surface and heat treatment on the bond strength of veneering ceramics to zirconia(Y-TZP) (표면처리와 열처리가 전장도재와 지르코니아의 결합력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was to assess the effect of surface and heat treatment on the bond strength of veneering ceramics to zirconia. Methods: The specimens were divided into 7 groups according to surface treatment and heat treatment conditions prior to porcelain application. ten specimens from each group were subjected to a 3-point flexural test. In addition the influence of surface and heat treatment on surface roughness values and phase transformation of zirconia was evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed with one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey's test. Results: Bond strength ranged from $20.67{\pm}3.13MPa$ to $32.69{\pm}4.52$. Bond strength of surface treatment group was lower than that of control group but only $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting group was significant difference. Bond strength of heat treatment group was higher than that of surface treatment group but there was no statistical significance. Conclusion: Bond strength of veneering ceramics to zirconia was affected by surface and heat treatment.

Changes in Mechanical Properties according to Solid Solution Treatment of Cu-1.6%Co-0.38%Si Alloy (Cu-1.6%Co-0.38%Si 합금의 용체화처리에 따른 기계적 성질의 변화)

  • Cu-Co-Si based alloy has a strengthening mechanism for Co2Si intermetallic compounds deposited on the copper matrix after aging treatment and the solution treatment has a key influence on the strength and electrical conductivity of the final products. In this paper, the Cu-1.6%Co-0.38%Si alloy was fixed at the time and the solution treatment temperature was set at a temperature in the range of 800 to 950℃, and the change in mechanical properties was observed by fixing the temperature at 950℃ and changing the time. The microstructure was observed using an electron microscope and an optical microscope, and the changes in hardness, electrical conductivity, and bending workability after aging treatment were investigated. When the solution treatment time is less than 20 seconds, the solution treatment is not sufficient and the formation of precipitates contributing to the increase in hardness decreases and the hardness decreases after the aging treatment, and in more than 50 seconds, the hardness decreases due to the coarsening of the grains and the bending workability got worse.

A Review of Recent Korean Medicine Treatment for Chronic Subdural Hematoma Using the CNKI Database (만성 경막하 혈종(Chronic Subdural Hematoma)의 한의 치료에 대한 최신 임상연구 동향 - CNKI 검색을 중심으로 -)

  • Objectives: This study investigates the latest clinical studies on Korean medicine treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) in China. Methods: A CNKI search investigated the last 10 years of clinical studies of Korean medicine treatments in Chinese medical journals for CSDH. The search focused on authors, publication years, types of studies, purposes of studies, methods and duration of treatment, evaluation criteria, and results of treatment. Results: In 19 studies, there were 14 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 4 case series, and 1 case-control study. In all 19 studies, Korean medical treatment and Western treatment were combined. Herbal medicine was used in 19 studies and acupuncture treatment in 2 studies. The most frequently used prescription was Hyeolbuchukeo-tang-gagambang, and the most frequently used acupoint was PC6. In all 19 studies, the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment performed in parallel with Western treatment was confirmed. Conclusions: In this study, Korean medicine combined with Western treatment for CSDH was effective. More clinical studies and case reports are required to develop a guided treatment for CSDH.
