The characteristics of flows, temperatures, concentrations of the boron are numerically studied when uniform axial magnetic fields are applied in the Czechralski crucible. The to governing factors to the flow regimes are buoyancy, thermocapillarity, centrifugal forces, magnetic forces, diffusion coefficient and segregation coefficient of the boron. Since the concentration of the boron is so low that buoyancy effects are negligible, it cannot affect the flow and temperature fields. From the fact that the flow fields are rotationally symmetric, two velocity components in the meridional plane and the circumferential velocity are calculated together with the temperature in the steady state. Based on the known velocity and temperature distributions the unsteady concentration distributions of the boron are calculated. As the strength of the magnetic is increased, the flow velocities are decreased. Circumferential velocities are large near the crucible side-wall and in the region below the rotating crystal. Steep temperatures gradient near the edge of the rotating crystal causes the Marangoni convection. It has been found out that the convection characteristics affects the unsteady transport phenomena of the boron.

A three-dimensional beach evolution model was presented to predict morphodynamics around a river mouth. The presented model was based on the depth-averaged (2DH) and quasi three-dimensional (Q-3D) nearshore current modules, and the model took into account shoreline changes, the effect of advection diffusion of suspended load and discharged sediments from the river. First, the 3D beach evolution model was applied to the formation of sand spits and terrace at the river mouth in order to investigate the performance of the model. Secondly, the model was applied to the river mouth at the Ara River, facing the Sea of Japan. The formation of sand spit at the Ara River in winter season was reproduced. The computed result showed qualitatively agreement with field site observation.

In order to understand the flow properties of the South Sea of Korea, tidal currents, wind-driven currents, density-driven currents and residual flows were investigated by using 3-dimensional numerical model(POM). In offshore regions, tide-induced residual current tends to flow eastward during the spring tide and westward during the neap tide. Total residual flow is irregular due to the bottom topography in the coastal area. The density-driven currents in the coastal area showed to be relatively weak, with little seasonal differences. The special tendency was apparent in the open sea. That is, the flow in the offshore regions showed results similar to that of the Tsushima current. The wind-driven currents in the coastal area showed to be much stronger than in offshore regions. Vertically, the flow of the surface layer was much stronger than that of the bottom layer. Through these results, material transport and diffusion in the south coast, as a basis for predicting the spread of use is expected to be available.
This study deals with the development and improvement of a particle dispersion model for quick response to water pollutant accidents. The developed model is based on the shear dispersion theory where vertical mixing is done by step by step mixing by vertical and molecular diffusion algorithm. For the quick response to chemical accidents, an algorithm for multi-core modeling for the particle dispersion model is applied. After the application of multi-core operation using OpenMP directives to the model, the relation for the calculation time and particle size were determined along with the number of cores used for parallel programming to determine the model time for chemical accident responses. The results showed the adequate conditions for the modeling of chemical accidents for quick response and to increase the applicability of the model.

This study predicted the probability of corrosion initiation of reinforced concrete tunnel boxes structures using the Monte Carlo Simulation. For the inner wall and outer wall in the tunnel boxes, exposed to airborne chloride ion and seawater directly respectively, statistical values of parameters like diffusion coefficient D, surface chloride content $C_s$, cover depth c, and the chloride threshold level $C_{lim}$ were examined from experiment or literature review. Their average values accounted for $3.77{\times}10^{-12}m^2/s$, 3.0% by weight of cement, 94.7mm and 45.5mm for outer wall and inner wall, respectively, and 0.69% by weight of cement for D, $C_s$, c, and $C_{lim}$, respectively. With these parametric values, the distribution of chloride contents at rebar with time and the probability of corrosion initiation of the tunnel boxes, inner wall and outer wall, was examined by considering time dependency of chloride transport. From the examination, the histogram of chloride contents at rebar is closer to a gamma distribution, and the mean value increases with time, while the coefficient of variance decreases with time. It was found that the probability of corrosion initiation and the time to corrosion were dependent on the time dependency of chloride transport. Time independent model predicted time to corrosion initiation of inner wall and outer wall as 8 and 12 years, respectively, while 178 and 283 years of time to corrosion was calculated by time dependent model for inner wall and outer wall, respectively. For time independent model, the probability of corrosion at 100 years of exposure for inner wall and outer wall was ranged 59.5 and 95.5%, respectively, while time dependent model indicated 2.9 and 0.2% of the probability corrosion, respectively. Finally, impact of $C_{lim}$, including values specified in current codes, on the probability of corrosion initiation and corrosion free life is discussed.

In this paper, an analytical solution of calculating the excess temperature field due to a point heat source is presented in the presence of spring-neap modulation of convective alongshore flow. The basic form of the solution is identical to that given by Jung et al. (2003) but the convective term in the exponential kernel function is extended and a spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity is newly introduced. A set of calculations have been performed to examine the sensitivity of the heat build-up to the change in current fields and turbulent dispersion. Results indicate that the excess temperature field is confined within the tidal excursion distance, while the excess temperature field beyond the distance is mainly controlled by the horizontal diffusion. The heat build-up within the distance is considerably affected by the spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity; the relatively high excess temperature more than 1$^{\circ}C$ is extended further when the eddy diffusivity has spring-neap modulation.
The aim of this study was to investigate the absorption properties of ketoprofen. The in-situ perfusion model has advantages over in vitro models as it provides intact lymphatic and blood flow circulation. The absorption properties of six different concentrations of ketoprofen have been studied in single pass in-situ rat intestine model. $^{14}C-PEG$ 4000 was used as a permeability marker and the possibility of an energy dependent contribution to ketoprofen absorption was also Investigated using the metabolic inhibitor sodium azide. Three different concentrations of sodium azide were studied to examine its effect on absorption of ketoprofen from the rat intestine. The findings of this study suggest that mono-carboxylic type drugs like ketoprofen cause permeability changes in the intestine. This is shown by the increase in absorption of $^{14}C-PEG$ 4000 as the concentration of ketoprofen is increased. However, the trend for ketoprofen permeability is to decrease over the concentration ranges. It was observed that the Papp values for ketoprofen with sodium azide shows a trend towards reduction in the amount of ketoprofen absorbed from the rat intestine which was significantly different (p<0.05) from that of ketoprofen with sodium azide 3.0mM. This indicates that sodium azide has an affect on the absorption of ketoprofen. The pH of all the perfusion solutions was altered to ${\sim}pH\;6.7$ by the buffering capacity of the small intestine secretions. The results suggest that mechanisms other than passive diffusion may be involved in ketoprofen absorption. This would be consistent with the involvement of active transport or saturatable processes in the absorption of drugs containing monocarboxylic acid group, as has been previously suggested from in vitro data.
A 2-dimensional pollutant transport phenomenon in shallow reservoirs was analyzed by using a finite element method. The Galerkin's weighted residual method, based on linear interpolation, was used and a triangle was adopted as an element. The two dimensional Stock's equation and the advection-diffusion equation integrated over depth were used as governing equations. Also the Newton-Raphson method was introduced to solve the non-linear terms of the equation. The results calculated by the model are in good agreement with the analytical solution for a simplified channel where a known solution is avaiable. An actual application of the model is attempted for Sapkyo Lake with a consideration of the influx of the Sapkyo Chun, the Muhan Chun and kogkyo Chun. Further refined research is needed to evaluate the water quality in the other reservoirs.

Tidal exchange of sea water was studied by using drogue experiments and tidal current measurement data in Yeoja Bay which has a narrow channel. At the spring tide, the volume of tidal transport in the bay was estimated to be 43% of the mean volume of the sea water in Yeoja Bay, 1.96km super(3). Residual current was deduced to flow southward at the rate of 3,658$\times$10 super(4) m super(3) per tidal cycle. The mean tidal exchange of sea water during the flood flow was estimated to be approximately 5.0% of the volume of sea water at the mean high water level in the bay, 2.33km super(3), while that during the ebb flow was 6.3%. One dimensional diffusion coefficient of 1.69-1.97$\times$10 super(6) cm super(2)/sec was obtained at the channel in the bay.
This research was performed for analyzing the transport of suspended solids during the harbor construction. In behalf of the research, we have analyzes the characteristics of suspended solids movement in sand reclamation of breakwater according to age of tide and tidal period at the construction spot of Pusan new harbor. In the process of sand reclamation, soil was dumped by a dumping device which direct soil from the barge to the bottom of the sea. According to the results from this research, suspended solid concentration was very high in the range of 5m from the dumping point right after the dumping. However these suspended solids settled very quickly and the solids concentration was very beyond 10m from the dumping point. It is deduced that the movement of solids dumped from barge has the tendencies as following; 1) Most of the dumped solids precipitated quickly after the dumping 2) The rest of the suspended solids are diffused slowly toward the bottom of the water being figured smoothing curve 3) The diffusion movement of suspended solids tend to proceed toward the shore line in a parallel motion with tidal current at the sea-bottom That is to say, most of the suspended solids precipitated very quickly even though highly concentrated solids produced at the bottom of the solids which did not precipitated spread with the tidal current horizontally along the bottom of the sea.
