$SnO_2$ films were prepared at room temperature under a $(CH_3)_4Sn-H_2-O_2$ atmosphere in order to obtain transparent conductive polymer by using ECR-MOCVD (Electron Cyclotron resonance -Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) system. The electrical properties of the films were investigated as function of process parameters such as deposition time, microwave power, magnetic current power, magnet/showering/substrate distance and working pressure. An increase in microwave power and magnetic current power brought on $SnO_2$ film formation with low electric resistivity. On the other hand, the effects of process parameters described above on optical properties were insignificant in the range of our experimental scope. The transmittance and reflectance of the films prepared by the ECR-MOCVD exhibited their average values of 93-98% at wave length range of 380-780 nm and 0.1-0.5%, respectively. The grain size of the $SnO_2$ films that are also insensitive with the process parameters were in the range of 20-50 nm. On the basis of experimental data obtained in the present study, electrical resistivity of $7.5{\times}10^{-3}ohm{\cdot}cm$, transmittance of 93%, and reflectance of 0.2% can be taken as optimum values.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) films with various oxygen partial pressure from 0 to $6{\times}10^{-5}$ Pa were prepared onto polyethylene terephthalate (PET) using RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The structural, electrical and optical properties of the grown ITO films were investigated as a function of the oxygen partial pressure. The amorphous nature of the ITO films was dominant at the partial pressure below $1{\times}10^{-5}$ Pa and the degree of crystallinity increased as the oxygen concentration increased further. This structural change comes with the increased carrier concentration and reduction of the electrical resistivity down to $9.8{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. The average transmittance (at 400~800 nm) of the ITO deposited on the PET substrates increased as the oxygen partial pressure increased and transmittance above 80 % was achieved with the partial pressure of $4{\times}10^{-5}$ Pa. The results show that the choice of optimal oxygen partial pressure can present improved film crystallinity, the increased carrier concentration, and the enhancement in the electrical conductivity.

Ternary $SrO-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glasses were fabricated as a function of R(${\equiv}SrO\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%$) and K(${\equiv}SiO_2\;mole%/B_2O_3\;mole%$). The structures of these glasses were investigated through Infrared transmittance, vicker's hardness, and refractive index. The results indicated : First, in the infrared transmittance spectra, when R increased, the intensities of the absorption bands around $1200{\sim}1600cm^{-1}$ resulting from the B-O stretching vibration bond in the symmetrical trigonal $BO_3$ units decreased, and these of the absorption bands around $800{\sim}1200cm^{-1}$ caused by the B-O stretching vibration bond of the tetrahedral $BO_4$ units varied. Also, the intensities of the absorption bands for the B-O stretching vibration bond in trigonal $BO_3$ units increased and these of the bands for B-O stretching vibration bond in tetrahedral $BO_4$ units decreased as K increased. Second, the increase and the decrease of vicker's hardness values for these glasses depended on the fraction of $BO_4$ units and it of $BO_3$ units, respectively. The refractive index of these glasses mostly depended on the SrO contents and only slightly depended on the fraction of $BO_4$ and $BO_3{^-}$ units.

Purpose: The present study was conducted to investigate whether certain repeated physical and/or chemical stimuli added on ophthalmic lenses might induce any changes of the functions of lens coatings. Methods: The changes in lens surface, light transmittance, foggy duration, durability of ophthalmic lenses were determined after the application of tearing-off with tape, rubbing with acetone, soaking in acetone or distilled water of ophthalmic lens (CR-39 material) as physical and/or chemical stimuli. Results: The change of ophthalmic lens surface was detected after soaking in acetone for longer than 30 minutes by observing the lens surface to figure out the functional change of hard coating. The ophthalmic lens soaked in distilled water for 180 minutes showed little functional change of anti-reflection coating as 1% by measuring light transmittance of lens. However, the function of anti-reflection coating was almost disappeared after the ophthalmic lens was soaked in acetone for 60 minutes. The foggy duration of ophthalmic lens soaked in acetone was increased by estimating foggy duration of lens. The lens coating was shown to be defected when the pre-damaged ophthalmic lenses were torn off with tape, rubbed with acetone and soaked in distilled water or acetone by observing pre-damaged lens surface to evaluate its durability. Conclusions: The careful management during ophthalmic lens dispensing or usual eyeglass wearing is needed since the change in ophthalmic lens coatings was shown by repeated physical and/or chemical stimuli.
$In_2O_3$ films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering on a glass substrate and then the effect of post deposition annealing in nitrogen atmosphere on the structural, optical and electrical properties of the films was investigated. After deposition, the annealing process was conducted for 30 minutes at 200 and $400^{\circ}C$. XRD pattern analysis showed that the as deposited films were amorphous. When the annealing temperature reached 200-$400^{\circ}C$, the intensities of the $In_2O_3$ (222) major peak increased and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the $In_2O_3$ (222) peak decreased due to the crystallization. The films annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ showed a grain size of 28 nm, which was larger than that of the as deposited amorphous films. The optical transmittance in the visible wavelength region also increased, while the electrical sheet resistance decreased. In this study, the films annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ showed the highest optical transmittance of 76% and also showed the lowest sheet resistance of $89{\Omega}/\Box$. The figure of merit reached a maximum of $7.2{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}^{-1}$ for the films annealed at $400^{\circ}C$. The effect of the annealing on the work-function of $In_2O_3$ films was considered. The work-function obtained from annealed films at $400^{\circ}C$ was 7.0eV. Thus, the annealed $In_2O_3$ films are an alternative to ITO films for use as transparent anodes in OLEDs.

Nickel Oxide (NiO) is a transition metal oxide of the rock salt structure that has a wide band gap of 3.5 eV. It has a variety of specialized applications due to its excellent chemical stability, optical, electrical and magnetic properties. In this study, we concentrated on the application of NiO thin film for transparent conducting oxide. The energy band structure, electronic and optical properties of Nickel Oxide (NiO) thin films grown on Si by using electron beam evaporation were investigated by X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Reflection Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (REELS), and UV-Spectrometer. The band gap of NiO thin films determined by REELS spectra was 3.53 eV for the primary energies of 1.5 keV. The valence-band offset (VBO) of NiO thin films investigated by XPS was 3.88 eV and the conduction-band offset (CBO) was 1.59 eV. The UV-spectra analysis showed that the optical transmittance of the NiO thin film was 84% in the visible light region within an error of ${\pm}1%$ and the optical band gap for indirect band gap was 3.53 eV which is well agreement with estimated by REELS. The dielectric function was determined using the REELS spectra in conjunction with the Quantitative Analysis of Electron Energy Loss Spectra (QUEELS)-${\varepsilon}({\kappa},{\omega})$-REELS software. The Energy Loss Function (ELF) appeared at 4.8, 8.2, 22.5, 38.6, and 67.0 eV. The results are in good agreement with the previous study [1]. The transmission coefficient of NiO thin films calculated by QUEELS-REELS was 85% in the visible region, we confirmed that the optical transmittance values obtained with UV-Spectrometer is the same as that of estimated from QUEELS-${\varepsilon}({\kappa},{\omega})$-REELS within uncertainty. The inelastic mean free path (IMFP) estimated from QUEELS-${\varepsilon}({\kappa},{\omega})$-REELS is consistent with the IMFP values determined by the Tanuma-Powell Penn (TPP2M) formula [2]. Our results showed that the IMFP of NiO thin films was increased with increasing primary energies. The quantitative analysis of REELS provides us with a straightforward way to determine the electronic and optical properties of transparent thin film materials.
The influence of $O_2$-plasma treatment on $H_2$ post-treated BZO (ZnO:B) thin film using MOCVD (Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) are investigated. An $O_2$-plasma treatment of the $H_2$ post-treated BZO thin films resulted in XRD peak of (100), (101) and (110). Also, electrical properties resulted in an increase in sheet resistance and work function. The weighted optical transmittance and haze at 300~1,100 nm of BZO thin films with $O_2$-plasma treatment on the $H_2$ post-treatment show approximately 86% and 15%, respectively.
During the course of evolution, animals encountered the harmful effects of fungi, which are strong pathogens. Therefore, they have developed powerful mechanisms to protect themselves against these fungal invaders. ${\beta}$-Glucans are glucose polymers of a linear ${\beta}$(1,3)-glucan backbone with ${\beta}$(1,6)-linked side chains. The immunostimulatory and antitumor activities of ${\beta}$-glucans have been reported; however, their mechanisms have only begun to be elucidated. Fungal and particulate ${\beta}$-glucans, despite their large size, can be taken up by the M cells of Peyer's patches, and interact with macrophages or dendritic cells (DCs) and activate systemic immune responses to overcome the fungal infection. The sampled ${\beta}$-glucans function as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and are recognized by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) on innate immune cells. Dectin-1 receptor systems have been incorporated as the PRRs of ${\beta}$-glucans in the innate immune cells of higher animal systems, which function on the front line against fungal infection, and have been exploited in cancer treatments to enhance systemic immune function. Dectin-1 on macrophages and DCs performs dual functions: internalization of ${\beta}$-glucan-containing particles and transmittance of its signals into the nucleus. This review will depict in detail how the physicochemical nature of ${\beta}$-glucan contributes to its immunostimulating effect in hosts and the potential uses of ${\beta}$-glucan by elucidating the dectin-1 signal transduction pathway. The elucidation of ${\beta}$-glucan and its signaling pathway will undoubtedly open a new research area on its potential therapeutic applications, including as immunostimulants for antifungal and anti-cancer regimens.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) has been commonly used as an anode for organic light emitting diode (OLED), because of its relatively high work function, high transmittance, and low resistance. The ITO was mostly deposited by capacitive type DC or RF sputtering. In this study we introduced a new facing target sputtering method. On applying this new sputtering method, the effect of fundamental deposition parameters such as substrate heating and post etching were investigated in relation to the resultant I-V-L characteristics of OLED. Three kinds of ITOs deposited at room temperature, at $400^{\circ}C$ and at $400^{\circ}C$ with after surface modification by $O_2$ plasma etching were compared. The OLED on ITO deposited with substrate heating and followed by etching showed better I-V-L characteristics, which starts to emit light at 4 volts and has luminescence of $65\;cd/m^2$ at 9 volts. The better I-V-L characteristics were ascribed to the relevant surface roughness with uniform micro-extrusions and to the equi-axed micromorphology of ITO surface.
We investigated the crystalline and electrical properties of ZnO thin films for transparent electrode as a function of the oxygen pressures during the deposition. The ZnO thin films were deposited on a flexible teflon substrates by the pulsed laser deposition. From the X-ray diffraction, ZnO films showed c axis oriented ZnO(0002) crystal structure. The FWHM (full width at half maximum) values decreased from $0.51^{\circ}\;to\;0.34^{\circ}$ as the oxygen pressure increased from 0.1 mTorr to 10.0 mTorr showing the improvement of crystallinity. The resistivity and hall mobility of ZnO film deposited at the oxgen pressure of 0.1 mTorr at $200^{\circ}C$ was about $5\times10^{-4}\Omega{\cdot}cm\;and\;20cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, respectively. The optical transmittance of the ZnO films on flexible teflon substrate was found to be above $85\%$.
