In mobile communications environment, STBC-OFDM(Space Time Block Code-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system with transmit diversity obtains the MRRC(Maximal Ratio Receiver Combining) diversity gain in time-invariant channel between two received symbols. But in time-variant channel, due to the interference between received symbols, MRRC diversity gain cant be obtained. So, when the mobile device with transmit diversity moves in high speed, the scheme to reduce the performance degradation due to the interference is needed. In this paper, we propose the receiver architecture with advanced transmit diversity, which improves the performance of STBC-OFDM system. The proposed architecture obtains the diversity gain without the change of transmit bandwidth at the receiver with the interference canceller using ZF(Zero Forcing) algorithm. Simulation results show performance improvement as doppler shift is increasing.

The standardization of third Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) has been performed in of order to support interactive multimedia services under mobile environments. In this 3GPP, transmit diversity solutions are applied to increase the available diversity effectively using 2 or more antennas. In this paper, we analyzer the performances on STTD(Space Time Transmit Diversity) technique and its modified techniques such as STTD-OTD, CL-STTD, and 4TX-STTD out of open loop transmit diversities that the standardization of 3GPP has released. We also propose the open loop transmitter and receiver diversities to add the receiver diversity. We analyze and discuss the performance of the proposed techniques and using the Matlab simulation under the flat fading channel environment.

We investigate the outage probability in terms of QoS (quality of service) in indoor PLC network. We consider various kinds of appliances for realistic indoor PLC network. For estimation of the outage probability, we calculate the time-varying channel responses considering the loading conditions based on regular human activities and include the additive noise. We calculate the outage probability for each terminal and investigate relationship between the outage probability and the channel length, and transmit powers. Our results suggest that the outage probability is increased when the channel length becomes longer because more appliances affect the amount of reduced channel capacity and is not improved distinctly for very high and low outage threshold by increasing the transmit power. However, we can see outage probability improvement for 30% outage threshold case by increasing the transmit power.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with multiple transmit antennas can exploit space-time block coding on each subchannel for reliable data transmission. Spacetime coded OFDM systems, however, are very sensitive to time variant channels because the channels need to be static over multiple OFDM symbol periods. In this paper, we propose to mitigate the channel variations in the frequency domain using a linear filter in the frequency domain that exploits the sparse structure of the system matrix in the frequency domain. Our approach has reduced complexity compared with alternative approaches based on time domain block-linear filters. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed frequency domain block-linear filter reduces computational complexity by more than a factor of ten at the cost of small performance degradation, compared with a time domain block-linear filter.
This paper investigates the outage behavior of peak interference power limited cognitive radio (CR) networks with multiple transmit antennas. In CR-multi-input single-output (MISO) channel, the total transmit power is distributed over the transmitantennas. First, we use the orthogonal space-time codes (STC) to achieve the transmit diversity at CR-receiver (rx) and investigate the effect of the power distribution on the interference power received at the primary-receiver (P-rx). Then, we investigate the transmit antenna selection (TAS) scheme in which the CR system selects the best transmit antenna and allocates all the power to the selected best antenna. Two transmit antenna selection strategies are proposed depending on if feedback channel is available or not. We derive the closed form expressions of outage probability and outage capacity of all schemes with arbitrary number of transmit-antennas. We show that the proposed schemes significantly improve the outage capacity over the single antenna systems in Rayleigh fading environment. We also show that TAS based scheme outperforms the STC based scheme when peak interference power constraint is imposed on the P-rx only if a feedback channel from CR-rx to CR-transmitter is available.

A new transmit antenna selection and shuffling($AS^2$) method for spatially correlated double space time transmit diversity(DSTTD) systems is proposed. The proposed method allows dumb antennas and the superposition of multiple signals at the same transmit antenna, whereas the conventional methods consider the antenna shuffling(AS) only. According to the simulation result, the proposed method provides a 1.8 dB signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) gain over the conventional methods for spatially correlated transmit antennas. Although the number of candidates for $AS^2$ is much higher than that of AS, it is found that the number of candidates for $AS^2$ can be reduced to 36 by using the characteristics and properties of preprocessing matrices, and among them, only 6 candidates are almost always chosen. Next, we empirically compare the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the proposed method with the conventional spatial multiplexing(SM) technique with antenna selection. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the SM technique.

In this paper, we investigate the performance of ARQ-aided downlink Time Switched Transmit Diversity (TSTD) in the WCDMA LCR-TDD system. Proposed TSTD system applies the ARQ scheme in which the receiver sends the response signal (ACK or NACK signal) to the transmitter and predicts the channel condition based on response signal after receiver checks the error, then it re-sends data. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed TSTD scheme yields about 5.5dB performance gain, compared with the conventional TSTD in term of the frame error rate(FER) for a mobile speed of 3km/h and an FER value of 1%. In addition, 7% of throughput gain is shown when Eb/N0=7dB.

In this paper, we propose a simple open loop transmit diversity (TD) scheme for the wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) systems in Rician multipath fading channels such as rural area or satellite channels where line-of-sight (LOS) paths are in presence. The proposed scheme does not require any pre-processing of transmit data, resulting in simpler structure as compared to conventional closed loop transmit adaptive array (TxAA) and open loop space-time transmit diversity (STTD). We analytically derive the probability density function of signal-to-noise ratio at the Rake receiver output and the uncoded bit error rate performance of the proposed scheme. Extensive simulation is Performed to verify the analytical performance of the proposed scheme under typical Rician multipath fading channel environments. Moreover, comparative results with the conventional TxAA and STTD are also provided. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme shows slightly better performance than the conventional open loop STTD under the channels with very weak LOS components, however, it significantly outperforms the STTD under the channels with dominant LOS components, and achieves a close performance of ideal closed loop TxAA.

Space-time coding was designed for an efficient transmit diversity technique to improve performance of wireless communication. For the transmit diversity using space-time coding, the receiver requires to estimate channel parameters corresponding to each transmit antennas. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel estimation scheme based on trigonometric polynomial approximation in OFDM systems with transmit diversity using space-time coding. The proposed scheme is more efficient than the conventional scheme in terms of the computational complexity. For QAM modulation, when the size of FFH is 128, the conventional scheme with significant tap caching of 7 requires 9852 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels. But the proposed scheme requires 2560, 7680 and 3584 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels, respectively. Especially, for channels with smaller Doppler frequency and delay spreads, the proposed scheme has the improved BER performance and complexity. In addition, we evaluate the performance of maximum delay spread estimation in unknown channel. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by computer simulation in various multi-path fading environments.
This paper proposes a new class of Space-Time Block Codes, which is manipulated from the existing transmit diversity schemes. We analyze the performance and the receiver complexity of the proposed scheme and confirm that the new diversity scheme can yield performance gain over other existing four-transmit antenna cases. By relaxing the diversity criterion on code designs, the proposed space-time code provides a full transmission rate for four-transmit antennas and makes it possible to approach the open-loop Shannon channel capacity. Outage capacity and simulation results are used to show that substantial improvements in performance while maintaining a simple linear processing receiver structure are obtained in frequency selective channels.
