Fault location estimation is an important element for rapid recovery of power system when fault occur in transmission line. In order to calculate line impedance, most of fault location algorithm uses by measuring relaying waveform using DFT. So if there is a calculation error due to the influence of phasor by DC offset component, due to large vibration by line impedance computation, abnormal and non-operation of fault locator can be issue. It is very important to implement the robust fault location algorithm that is not affected by DC offset component. This paper describes an enhanced fault location algorithm based on the DC offset elimination filter to minimize the effects of DC offset on a long transmission line. The proposed DC offset elimination filter has not need any erstwhile information. The phase angle delay of the proposed DC offset filter did not occurred and the gain error was not found. The enhanced fault location algorithm uses DFT filter as well as the proposed DC offset filter. The behavior of the proposed fault location algorithm using off-line simulation has been verified by data about several fault conditions generated by the ATP simulation program.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of ILCTL(inductively loaded compact transmission line) that is new type of compact transmission line. ILCTL was realized by periodic narrow transverse slits working as series inductances in microstrip line. And compact hybrid rat-race couplers were designed by using the proposed ILCTL. The microstrip line hybrid rat-race coupler with silts of 8 per quarter wavelength at 1.8 GHz has reduced size of 60% as compared with conventional one and it is proved by simulation of EM solver with full-wave analysis based on MoM and measurements.

This paper presents a new method for choosing the best line for transmission system expansion planning considering the highest reliability level of the transmission system. Conventional methodologies for transmission system expansion planning have been mainly focused on economics, which is the minimization of construction costs. However, quantitative evaluation of transmission system reliability is important because successful operation and planning of an electric power system under the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management. Therefore, it is expected that the development of methodology for choosing the best lines considering the highest transmission system reliability level while taking into account uncertainties of transmission system equipment is useful for the future. The characteristics and effectiveness of the proposed methodology are illustrated by the case study using a MRBTS.
KEPCO constructed the first 765kV 2 circuit transmission line in the world with its home grown technologies. Through this 765kV transmission system project, KEPCO accumulated experience and technologies related to the 765 kV power system. Based on the successful completion of the 765kV transmission project, KEPCO is conducting overseas business by using its abundant experience and know-how. In particular, KEPCO developed the training course for power system, called the ATT (Advanced Transmission Technology) training courses for overseas business, especially for developing countries. Therefore, KEPCO developed the "Transmission line design system for overseas projects". This system supports the calculation of wind pressure load, tower design, wire selection, insulation design, etc. by applying the meteorological data of foreign countries and design standards. And this system is applied to the training program so that the trainees can design the optimal transmission line for their own countries.

With the increase of demand for electricity power, new construction and expansion of transmission lines for transport have been required. However, it has been difficult to be realized by such opposition from environmental groups and residents. Therefore, the development of techniques for effective use of existing transmission lines is more needed. In this paper, the major variables to affect the allowable transmission capacity in an overhead transmission lines were selected and the dynamic line rating (DLR) method using artificial neural networks reflecting unique environment-heat properties was proposed. To prove the proposed method, the analyzed results using the artificial neural network were compared with the ones obtained from the existing method. The analyzed results using the proposed method showed an error of 0.9% within ${\pm}$, which was to be practicable.
Observations from past strong earthquakes revealed that near-fault ground motions could lead to the failure, or even collapse of electricity transmission towers which are vital components of an overhead electric power delivery system. For assessing the performance and robustness, a high-fidelity three-dimension finite element model of a long span transmission tower-line system is established with the consideration of geometric nonlinearity and material nonlinearity. In the numerical model, the Tian-Ma-Qu material model is utilized to capture the nonlinear behaviours of structural members, and the cumulative damage D is defined as an index to identify the failure of members. Consequently, incremental dynamic analyses (IDAs) are conducted to study the collapse fragility, damage positions, collapse margin ratio (CMR) and dynamic robustness of the transmission towers by using twenty near-fault ground motions selected from PEER. Based on the bending and shear deformation of structures, the collapse mechanism of electricity transmission towers subjected to Chi-Chi earthquake is investigated. This research can serve as a reference for the performance of large span transmission tower line system subjected to near-fault ground motions.
The transmission capacity of transmission lines is affected by environmental parameters such as ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction and so on. The environmental parameters can be measured by the installed measuring devices. However, it is impossible to install the environmental measuring devices throughout the line, especially considering economic cost of power grid. Taking into account the limited number of measuring devices and the distribution characteristics of environment parameters and transmission lines, this paper first studies the environmental parameter estimating method of inverse distance weighted interpolation and ordinary Kriging interpolation. Dynamic thermal rating of transmission lines based on IEEE standard and CIGRE standard thermal equivalent equation is researched and the key parameters that affect the load capacity of overhead lines is identified. Finally, the distributed thermal rating of transmission line is realized by using the data obtained from China meteorological data network. The cost of the environmental measurement device is reduced, and the accuracy of dynamic rating is improved.

Due to icing and snow, power transmission lines have asymmetric cross sections, and their motion becomes unstable. At this time, the vibration caused by the wind is called galloping. If galloping is continuous, short circuits or ground faults may occur. It is possible to prevent galloping by installing spacers between transmission lines. In this study, the transmission line is modeled as a mass-spring-damper system by using RecurDyn. To analyze the dynamic behavior of the transmission line, the damping coefficient is derived from the free vibration test of the transmission line and Rayleigh damping theory. The drag and lift coefficient for modeling the wind load are calculated from the flow analysis by using ANSYS Fluent. Galloping simulations according to spacer stiffness and interval are carried out. It is found that when the stiffness is 100 N/m and the interval around the support is dense, the galloping phenomenon is reduced the most.

In this paper, we study the RF characteristics of the short wavelength thin-film transmission line employing microstrip line (ML)/coplanar waveguide (CPW) composite structure on silicon substrate for application to RFIC (radio frequency integrated circuit). The thin-film transmission line employing ML/CPW composite structure showed a wavelength shorter than conventional transmission lines. Concretely, at 10 GHz, the wavelength of the transmission line employing ML/CPW composite structure was 6.26 mm, which was 60.5 % of the conventional coplanar waveguide. We also extracted the bandwidth characteristic of the transmission line employing ML/CPW composite structure using equivalent circuit analysis. The S parameter of the equivalent circuit showed a good agreement with measured result. According to the bandwidth extraction result, the cut-off frequency of thin-film transmission line employing ML/CPW composite structure was 377 GHz. Above results indicate that the transmission line employing ML/CPW composite structure can be effectively used for application to broadband and compact RFIC.

Low-Voltage power lines should equip surge protection devices which protect electronic equipments and human lives against lightning and abnormal voltages. Data transmission capacity of the power line is determined by frequency characteristics of the surge protective devices. To analyze the effects of surge protective devices on the data transmission performance, various combinations of installation methods are tested which include ZnO varistor elements that is compatible with class I, class II and class III. The result claims that ZnO varistor for class III is found to be one of the main factors that deteriorates the transmission performance. To overcome this problem a serial connection methed between Gap type SPD and ZnO varistor is proposed. With the proposed scheme, laboratory experimental results show that the data transmission performance can be improved up to 91.9[%] with proper SPD combination.
