  • In this study, byusing EMAT(Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer) the artificial slit is installed on 12B-SUS pipe test piece. By mading 4 cycle SH-bust wave (EMA) incidence to 45 .deg. angle, the signaldata of pulse, which is recevied from EMAT translated intodigital-signal-processing-method SSP and Deconvolution method by using FACOM. Results of these indicated that (1) this method of this study shows exellent result more than Ultrasonic testing method; (2) noise is well removed by SSP using signal dataa and resolving power and S/N ratio are advanced; (3) regradless of Ultrasonic wave, whichhas properties of generalstainless steel is generated into multiscattering and reflection phenomena, the resolving power of more than two times is progressed by being translated into Decon-volution method; and (4) as addition-averaging-processing number is increaing, the resolving power and S/N ratio are improved and the satisfactory signal is obtained.

  • In 1607, Matteo Ricci and Xu Guangqi translated Euclid's 《Elements》 and published 《Jihe yuanben, 幾何原本》. Though 《Elements》 consists of 13 volumes (or 15 volumes according to its editions), they translated only the first 6 volumes on the plane geometry. Why did they do so? This paper discusses about the three questions which naturally arise: What might be the motive of the translation of the 《Elements》? What method did they adopt for the translation? And why did they translate the 6 volumes, especially, the first 6 volumes, not completing the whole?

  • Use of a plasma arc as the source of energy for penetration welding of thin plates gives rise to a cylindrical hole surrounded by the molten metal. Material moves from the front to the rear of the hole by flowing around the hole as the workpiece is translated relatively to the arc. Based on the finite difference method, three different computer models have been proposed for the steady state, two dimensional heat and mass flow during the plasma arc welding. In the formulation energy equation was derived by the energy blance method through the cell control volume, and all the governing equations derived for the fixed coordinates was translated for the moving coordinate system. The driving force for fluid flow being considered was only electromagnetic force. The calculated and measured molten poon and HAZ width were compared and better agreement was obtained for the models considering the keyhole effect.

  • In this paper, we propose an extendible copy network in a large-scale ATM switch consisting of small switch modules implementable on a single VLSI chip or a single PCB. Considering multicasting switches consist of a copy network and a routing network, there exist broadcast and group translators (BGT) which assign the destination addresses into copied cells. The BGT table can be reduced by vertical partitioning method; copied cells are translated in adjacent BGTs and each BGT table has a single destination address per connection. In addition, the distribution network routes and copies incomming cells into several groups statically which are translated into consecutive BGTs. This guarantees the integrity of cell sequences. Connection-setup time as well as the BGT table size can be reduced significantly.

  • Amplitude-only logarithmic Radon transform (ALR transform) for pattern matching is proposed. This method provides robustness for object translation, scaling, and rotation. An ALR image is invariant even if objects are translated in a picture. For the object scaling and rotation, the ALR image is merely translated. The objects are identified using a phase-only matched filter to the ALR image. The ratio of size, the difference of rotation angle, and the position between the two objects are detected. Our pattern matching procedure is described, herein, and its simulation is executed. We compare matching scores with the Fourier-Mellin transform, and the general phase-only matched filter.

  • The Nine Chapters by Liu Hui(劉徽) in the three kingdoms(220∼265 AD) is the fundamental source of the traditional Chinese Mathematics and has not only remained the lighthouse of the traditional Chinese Mathematics over the last 2000 years, but also has exerted a profound influence on the development of mathematics in the neigh-bouring countries and regions. At last it also translated into English. In this paper, some differences between the Orignal and the New Translated Nine Chapters will be introduced and a problem of Mathematical Treatise in Nine Sections (Shushu Jiuzhang, 수서구장, 1247) of Qin Jiushao(진구소, 1202∼1261 AD) in the Song (송, 960∼1261 AD) Dynasty It looks like an insect in the amber but not error.

  • In 1998, Food and Agriculture Organization addressed that FAO Modified Penman method possibly over-estimates consumptive use of water comparing to the measured reference crop evapotranspiration (PET) and Penman-Monteith method can be better choice for accurate PET estimation. Nevertheless it is still difficult to find research efforts about paddy rice crop coefficient for Penman-Monteith method. This study aims to estimate paddy rice crop coefficients for Penman-Monteith and FAO modified Penman methods in the manner of comparing two equations. To estimate the crop coefficients, measured evapotranspiration data during 1982-1986 and 1995-1997 were used. The average Penman-Monteith crop coefficients ranged from 0.78 to 1.58 for translated paddy rice and from 0.87 to 1.74 for flood-direct seeded paddy rice. The average FAO Modified Penman crop coefficients ranged from 0.65 to 1.35 for translated paddy rice and from 0.70 to 1.58 for flood-direct seeded paddy rice.

  • The purpose of this study is to show the development process of space concept by studying on the Louis I. Kahn's painting as pre-architectural thinking. Generally the idea of an architect is represented with lots of mediums, and the architectural thinking is developed through the process. In his early days, he, as an architect, made many travel sketches of Europe. In these clays, painting was the most significant medium to him. Since 1950's, he also left lots of sketches affected by abstract painting in addition to travel sketches. The results of this study were as follows: He found the image of antiquity from his painting and he made this image into abstraction in the facade. And the image of ruins was translated the layered space which was the transitional space. And he presented 'marche' through the series of painting of various view point. The Concept of 'marche' was translated into the connections of repetitive mass in the architectural space.

  • People frequently feel the need of a general searching tool that frees from language barrier when they find information through the internet. Therefore, it is necessary to have a multilingual parallel corpus to search with a word that includes a search keyword and has a corresponding word in another language, Multilingual parallel corpus can be built and reused effectively through the several processes which are judgment of the web documents, sentence alignment and word alignment. To build a multilingual parallel corpus, multi-lingual dictionary should be constructed in each language and HTML should be simplified. And by understanding the meaning and the statistics of document structure, judgment on translated web documents will be made and the searched web pages will be aligned in sentence unit.

  • A methodology of the safety analysis on the fusion power plant is introduced. It starts with the understanding of the physics and engineering of the plant followed by the assessment of the tritium inventory and flow rate. We a, pp.y the probabilistic risk assessment. An event tree that explains the propagation of the accident is constructed and then it is translated in to an influence diagram, that is accident is constructed and then it is translated in to an influence diagram, that is statistically equivalent so far as the parameter updating is concerned. We follow the Bayesian a, pp.oach where model parameters are treated as random variables. We briefly discuss the parameter updating scheme, and finally develop the methodology to obtain the predictive distribution of time to next severe accident.
