  • The arc stability and the metal transfer mode of high deposition GMA welding were investigated using various compositions of shielding gas with two types of filler, ie solid wire and metal cored wire. As for a solid wire, the transfer mode changed from axial spray to rotational spray with increasing wire feed rate (welding current) and the transition current was different with the gas composition. The gas composition also affected the apparent stability of rotating arc. As for a metal cored wire, on the other hand, no transition occurred and thus spray transfer mode could be applied with the welding current over 500A (deposition rate over 300g/min). Looking for the development of high deposition GMA welding process, above results were discussed in two different ways, one is to elevate the transition current, the other is to stabilize the rotational transfer mode.

  • In this present study, mechanical properties of the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be bulk metallic glass are characterized by compression test over a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. Three different types of deformation behavior have been identified as a result, viz., Newtonian viscous flow, non-Newtonian flow and brittle fracture without plastic deformation. A transition state theory is applicable fur the flow stress - strain rate curve that contains the transition from Newtonian to non-Newtonian flow. Based on the relationship between viscosity and strain rate within undercooled liquid state, we can easily obtain the experimental deformation map and suggest the boundaries among different deformation behavior of this alloy.

  • Kalsilite (KAlSiO4) system undergoes a displacive phase transition from hexagonal phase with p63 space group to the phase with P63mc at 886$^{\circ}C$. The flux composition having kalsilite :K2O:B2O3=1:2:2 has enabled the growth of hexagonal kalsilite with the size of 0.5~1 mm at a slow cooling rate (0.3$^{\circ}C$/hr). On decreasing the cooling rate the size has increased and pyramidal (1011) faces are newly developed with the shape of (0001) and (1010) faces. Upon stirring (1011) faces are degraded. The space group of O1 and O2 are P21221 and C2221 respectively. Their orthorombic modification O1 and O2 are synthesized at relatively low and high temperature respectively.

  • Kraft pulping of Trema orientalis (Nalita) was studied in order to find kinetic data for delignification. Pulping runs were carried out in the temperature range of $160-180\;^{\circ}C$ under constant and well-defined conditions. The delignification was found to be first order with respect to residual lignin and was chemically controlled. The rate of delignification reaction was increased 1.11-1.23 for $10\;^{\circ}C$ temperature increase in the range of $160-180\;^{\circ}C$ range. A mean value of 93% of lignin was removed at the transition between bulk and residual delignification. The influence of cooking temperature on the rate constant was expressed by an Arrhenius-type equation. The obtained activation energy of the delignification reaction was 6,164 cal/mol. The transition point between bulk and residual phase was shifted to lower lignin and carbohydrate yield with the increase of temperature.

  • The vibrational relaxation rate constants of NO(v = 1-7) by $O_2\;and\;N_2$ have been calculated in the temperature range of 300-1000 K using the solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. The calculated relaxation rate constants by $O_2$ increase monotonically with the vibrational energy level v, which is compatible with the experimental data, while those by $N_2$ are nearly independent of v in the range of $3.40 {\pm}1.60{\times}10_{-16} cm^3$/molecule-sec at 300 K. Those for NO(v) + $N_2$ are about 2-3 orders of magnitude smaller than those for NO(v) + $O_2$, because the latter is an exothermic processes while the former an endothermic. Relaxation processes can be interpreted by single-quantum V-V transition. The contributions of V-T/R transition and double-quantum V-V transition to the relaxation are negligible over the entire temperature range.

  • Effects of the increase rate of Reynold number on near-wall turbulent structures are investigated by performing direct numerical simulations of transient turbulent channel flows. The simulations were started with the fully-developed turbulent channel flow at $Re_{\tau}=180$, then temporal accelerations were applied. During the acceleration, the Reynolds number, based on the channel width and the bulk mean velocity, increased almost linearly from 5600 to 13600. To elucidate the effects of flow acceleration rates on near-wall turbulence, a wide range of durations for acceleration were selected. Various turbulent statistics and instantaneous flow fields revealed that the rapid increase of flow rate invoked bypass-transition like phenomena in the transient flow. By contrast, the flow evolved progressively and the bypass transition did not clearly occur during mild flow acceleration. The present study suggests that the transition to the new turbulent regime in transient channel flow is mainly affected by the flow acceleration rate, not by the ratio of the final and initial Reynolds numbers.

  • Four polymorphic forms (I, II, III and IV) of hydrochlorothiazide have been characterized on the basis of x-ray diffractometry and differential thermal analysis. Form I was obtained by crystallization from N, N-dimethylformamide and Form II was crystallized from hot methanol. Form III was precipitated from sodium hydroxide aqueous solution by treatment with hydrochloric acid and Form IV was crystallized from 50% methanol. The metastable form I was a most stable form among four polymorphs, which was stable more than ten months at room temperature. The thermodynamic parameters such as heat of solution, enthalpy, entropy, free energy difference and transition temperature were determined by the measurement of intrinsic dissolution rate. The transition temperature and the heat of transition between the metastable Form I an Form II were determined to be $299.15^{\circ}$K and 5.03 Kcal/mole, respectively and free energy difference ($\delta$ F) was 302. 13 cal/mole. Diuretic action of these four polymorphic forms was also evaluated by monitoring the difference in urinary excretion of sodium, potassium and magnesium in rats.

  • Effects of LPMOCVD process parameters on the properties of TiO2 thin film were investigated. Depositions were made in the range of temperature 300-67$0^{\circ}C$ with various TTIP(Titanium Tetraisopropoxide) concentrations by contrlling bubbler temperature(40-8$0^{\circ}C$) and/or flow rate(30-90 sccm). Post annealing treatments were carried out at 500-80$0^{\circ}C$ range in the air. Films deposited at 40$0^{\circ}C$ have denser morphology than those of films deposited at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ due to slower deposition rate. Bubbler temperature can affect on the deposition rate in mass transfer controlled regime such as 50$0^{\circ}C$ or higher but not below 50$0^{\circ}C$ where surface reaction rate becomes important. On the contrary for films deposited above 50$0^{\circ}C$ flow rate can raise deposition rate but eventually saturate it at the 50 sccm and above due to retarded adhesion of decomposed species. But for films deposited at 40$0^{\circ}C$ deposition rate increases stadily with flow rate. As the film becomes more porous A(200) texture can not be developed and AnataselongrightarrowRutile transition kinetics increases.

  • This paper employs an Overlapping Generations Model to quantify the impacts of Korea's demographic transition toward an older population on the total output growth rate. The model incorporates the projected population through 2060 according by Statistics Korea. The effects of the low fertility and increased life expectancy rates are studied. The model is considered suitable for analyzing the effects of demographic changes on the Korean economy. Under the assumption that the TFP growth rate will not slow considerably in the future, remaining at 1.3% per annum, the gross output growth rate of the Korean economy is projected to slow to 1.1% per annum in the 2050s, from 4.0% in the 2000s. The shrinking workforce due to the decline in fertility plays a significant role in the deceleration of the Korean economy. The increased life expectancy rate is expected to mitigate the negative effect, but the magnitude of its effect is found to be limited.

  • The modulation code with the limitation of consecutive transition length is a type of channel codes in high-density magnetic recording channel. When code sequence has two or less successive transitions, the detection performance of channel outputs can be improved. However, the code rate is reduced considerably. We present a rate 7/8 nut-length limited (RLL) code that consecutive transition length of each codeword is limited to 2 (j=2), and j is allowed to be 3 when codewords are connected. In addition, the consecutive zeros of the proposed code is limited to 7 (k=7).
