This paper proposes a nonlinear computational modeling approach for the behaviors of structural systems subjected to fire. The proposed modeling approach consists of fire dynamics analysis, nonlinear transient-heat transfer analysis for predicting thermal distributions, and thermomechanical analysis for structural behaviors. For concretes, transient heat formulations are written considering temperature dependent heat conduction and specific heat capacity and included within the thermomechanical analyses. Also, temperature dependent stress-strain behaviors including compression hardening and tension softening effects are implemented within the analyses. The proposed modeling technique for transient heat and thermomechanical analyses is first validated with experimental data of reinforced concrete (RC) beams subjected to high temperatures, and then applied to a bridge model. The bridge model is generated to simulate the fire incident occurred by a gas truck on April 29, 2007 in Oakland California, USA. From the simulation, not only temperature distributions and deformations of the bridge can be found, but critical locations and time frame where collapse occurs can be predicted. The analytical results from the simulation are qualitatively compared with the real incident and show good agreements.
The numerical analysis, including chemical reaction of an entire ramjet engine is studied to understand the ignition transient mechanism and the dynamic characteristics of the Integrated Rocket Ramjet System comprehensively. Details of how a subsonic combustion environment is established from the supersonic ram air after removal of the inlet port cover, are examined during the ignition transient. Various physical processes are investigated systemically, including ignition, flame propagation, flame dynamics, and vorticity evolution.
This paper presents the new method of power system transient stability simulation, which combines the desirable features of both the time domain technique based on OOP(Object-oriented Programming) and the direct method of transient stability analysis using detailed generator model. OOP is an alternative to overcome the problems associated with the development, maintenance and update of large software by electrical utilities. Several papers have already evaluated this approach for power system applications in areas such as load flow, security assessment and graphical interface. This paper applied the object-oriented approach to the problem of power system dynamics simulation. The modeling method is that each block of dynamic system block diagram is implemented as an object and connected each other. In the transient energy method, the detailed synchronous generator model is so-called two-axis model. For the excitation model, IEEE type1 model is used. The developed mothed was successfully applied to New England Test System.

The initial condition should be consistent with real reactor core state for the simulation of the core transient. The initial xenon distribution, which cad not be measured in the core, has a significant effect on the transient with xenon dynamics of PWR. In the simulation of the transient stating from non-equilibrium xenon state, the accurate initialization of the non-equilibrium xenon distribution is essential to predict the core transient behavior. In this study, the xenon initialization method to predict the core transient more accurately was developed through the first-order perturbation theory of the relationship between simulated power and measured power distribution and verified by the application of the simulation for a startup test of Yonggwang Unit 3.
Most model constructs in organization studies are descriptive in nature, and the conclusions relating to the model behavior over time are speculative. The usefulness of System Dynamics as a methodology for modeling and testing dynamic behavioral hypotheses in organizational behavioral studies is presented, and how to construct a System Dynamics model using simulation software(VENSIM) is shown, The well-know March and Simon motivation model is used to demonstrate the step by step application of System Dynamics to model of this type. The dynamic behavior of the model, both transient and steady state, is obtained, Even though the paper has focused on one model in the area of individual behavior, the approach is general and can be applied to other areas of organizational behavior as will. The usefulness of System Dynamics as a methodology for theory building is identified as well.

Flow-induced dilation of blood vessel is the result of a series of bioreaction in vascular endothelial cells(VEC). Shear stress change by blood flow in human artery or vein is sensed by the mechanoreceptor and responsible for such a chain reaction. The inositol(1,4,5)-triphophate($IP_3$) is produced in the first stage to elevate permeability of the intercellular membrane to calcium ions by which the cytosolic calcium concentration is consequently increased. This intracellular calcium transient triggers synthesis of EDRF and prostacyclin. The mathematical model of this VEC calcium dynamics is reproduced from the literature. We then use the Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) technique to investigate the blood stream dictating the VEC calcium dynamics. The pulsatile blood flow in a stenosed blood vessel is considered here as a part of study on thrombogenesis. We calculate the pulsating shear stress (thus its temporal change) distributed over the stenosed artery that is implemented to the VEC calcium dynamics model. It has been found that the pulsatile shear stress induces larger intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ transient plus much higher amount of EDRF and prostacyclin release in comparison with the steady shear stress case. It is concluded that pulsatility of the physiological shear stress is important to keep the vasodilation function in the stenosed part of the blood vessel.
A $C^{\circ}$ continuous finite element formulation of a higher order displacement theory is presented for predicting linear and geometrically non-linear in the sense of von Karman transient responses of composite and sandwich plates. The displacement model accounts for non-linear cubic variation of tangential displacement components through the thickness of the laminate and the theory requires no shear correction coefficients. In the time domain, the explicit central difference integrator is used in conjunction with the special mass matrix diagonalization scheme which conserves the total mass of the element and included effects due to rotary inertia terms. The parametric effects of the time step, finite element mesh, lamination scheme and orthotropy on the linear and geometrically non-linear responses are investigated. Numerical results for central transverse deflection, stresses and stress resultants are presented for square/rectangular composite and sandwich plates under various boundary conditions and loadings and these are compared with the results from other sources. Some new results are also tabulated for future reference.
The photodynamics of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer reaction of 1-hydroxyanthraquinone (1-HAQ) and 1-deuterioanthraquinone was investigated in toluene with time-resolved emission and femtosecond transient transmittance techniques at room temperature. The temporal profiles of transient transmittance of 1-HAQ could be well described with multi-decaying time constants. The ultrafast time constant within ca. 260 fs reflects the dynamics of proton transfer. The decay component of 2 ps is assigned to an additional proton translocation process induced by the intramolecular vibrational relaxation, whereas the decay component of 18 ps is assigned to the vibrational cooling process, while the long component (200 ps) can be explained in terms of the relaxation from excited-state keto-tautomer to its ground state. Time-resolved anisotropy decay dynamics and isotope effects on the photodynamics reveals that the ESIPT from enol-tautomer to keto-one of 1-HAQ is barrierless reaction and coupled to a vibrational relaxation process.
The Molten Salt Reactor (MSR), one of the six advanced reactor types of the 4th generation nuclear energy systems, has many impressive features including economic advantages, inherent safety and nuclear non-proliferation. This paper introduces a system analysis code named TREND, which is developed and used for the steady and transient simulation of MSRs. The TREND code calculates the distributions of pressure, velocity and temperature of single-phase flows by solving the conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy, along with a fluid state equation. Heat structures coupled with the fluid dynamics model is sufficient to meet the demands of modeling MSR system-level thermal-hydraulics. The core power is based on the point reactor neutron kinetics model calculated by the typical Runge-Kutta method. An incremental PID controller is inserted to adjust the operation behaviors. The verification and validation of the TREND code have been carried out in two aspects: detailed code-to-code comparison with established thermal-hydraulic system codes such as RELAP5, and validation with the experimental data from MSRE and the CIET facility (the University of California, Berkeley's Compact Integral Effects Test facility). The results indicate that TREND can be used in analyzing the transient behaviors of MSRs and will be improved by validating with more experimental results with the support of SINAP.
