  • The photoisomerization behavior of benzylideneacetophenones, known as chalcones, was studied. We synthesized the chalcone derivatives that have ether groups at 4 and 4' positions. Due to the electron donating ability of the ether oxygen, the bond order of the single bond between two phenyl ring of the chalcone strengthened, which eventually increased the rotational barrier of the single bond. The rotational barrier of the single bond is about 20-22 kcal/mole. Thermal recovery of this process took about 1 min. The UV-visible spectra of these chromophores exhibit two characteristic absorption peaks at 276 nm and 340 nm. The relative intensity of the peaks varies depending on the alkyl chain length of the substituent. Photo-irradiation with the 365 nm light monotonously decreases the 340 nm peak. However, the photo-irradiation with 254 nm light induce two competing processes and produced rather complicated absorption profile.

  • Let (X, G) be a transformation group and ${\sigma}(X,x_0,G)$ the fundamental group of (X, G). In this paper, we prove that the Reidemeister number $R(f_G)$ for an endomorphism $f_G:(X,G){\rightarrow}(X,G)$ is a homotopy invariant. In particular, when any self-map $f:X{\rightarrow}X$ is homotopic to the identity map, we give some calculation of the lower bound of $R(f_G)$. Finally, we discuss commutativity and product formula for the Reidemeister number $R(f_G)$.

  • Sophus Lie's research is regarded as one of the most important mathematical advancements in the $19^{th}$ century. His pioneering research in the field of differential equations resulted in an invaluable consolidation of calculus and group theory. Lie's group theory has been investigated and constantly modified by various mathematicians which resulted in a beautifully abstract yet concrete theory. However Lie's early intentions and ideas are lost in the mists of modern transfiguration. In this paper we explore Lie's early academic years and his object of studies which clarify the ground breaking ideas behind his theory.

  • Users want to browse various groups of nested attribute values of an object. On the other hand, in case of the presentation of a multimedia object, the form-based presentation is superior to the graph-based presentation. Therefore we propose a form-based presentation transformation scheme that allows users to reorganize the presentation layout to fit the limited screen and to show the values of all the needed attributes. For the representation of the presentation scenario of an object a presentation information class and the presentation transformation operations are defined. We show how these operations transform the default presentation into the wanted presentation by navigating through a multimedia object with the COMIB (COMposite Icon Browser).

  • The necessity for harmonically growing of economy and environment has been on the rise late in the twentieth century. Green transformation is defined as efficiency enhancement of conventional guns and ammunitions. We also define green innovation as evolution of fire power systems breaking with conventional methodology. This kind of green innovation could even change a paradigm of warfare in the future. In this paper, we classify the green technology in the field of fire power into five technological groups, and the research and development trend of green technology in the field of fire power is analyzed.

  • Let 𝓟 = {Xi : i ∈ I} be a partition of a set X. We say that a transformation f : X → X preserves 𝓟 if for every Xi ∈ 𝓟, there exists Xj ∈ 𝓟 such that Xif ⊆ Xj. Consider the semigroup 𝓑(X, 𝓟) of all transformations f of X such that f preserves 𝓟 and the character (map) χ(f): I → I defined by iχ(f) = j whenever Xif ⊆ Xj is bijective. We describe Green's relations on 𝓑(X, 𝓟), and prove that 𝒟 = 𝒥 on 𝓑(X, 𝓟) if 𝓟 is finite. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for 𝒟 = 𝒥 on 𝓑(X, 𝓟). We characterize unit-regular elements in 𝓑(X, 𝓟), and determine when 𝓑(X, 𝓟) is a unit-regular semigroup. We alternatively prove that 𝓑(X, 𝓟) is a regular semigroup. We end the paper with a conjecture.

  • The packed column experiments were conducted with a field soil, collected directly from the aquifer located at Bonchon industrial complex in K-city in order to characterize SOM reaction with ozone and to delineate the transformation of water soluble SOM after ozonation. As reaction time increased, water soluble organic matter increased, and this organic matter was in the range of 500∼1000 dalton. pH of extractants decreased with the increase of ozonation time. This Is because aromtic compounds in SOM were oxidized and carboxylic acid groups were formed. From the FT-IR spectra, the content of carboxylate increased as ozone injection time increased and hydroxyl group, which represents phenolic and alcoholic hydroxyl groups decreased. This is because oxidative ring fission formed carboxyl acid groups. This result provides a good agreement with pH decrease.

  • Before analyzing the images taken with a Mosaic CCD imager, the images have to reach a state which can be used for further scientific analysis. The transformation of raw images into calibrated images is called data reduction. Transforming HEavely Light into Images (THELI) is a nearly fully automated reduction pipeline software (Erben et al., 2005). This pipeline works on raw images to remove instrumental signatures, mask unwanted signals, and perform photometric and astrometric calibration. Finally THELI constructs a deep co-added mosaic image and a weight map. In this poster, THELI data reduction procedures will be reviewed and the reduction process for raw images of seven X-ray bright groups, extracted from GEMS groups (Osmond & Ponman, 2004) obtained by the Wide Field Imager (WFI) mounted on MPG/ESO telescope at La Silla in March 2006 will be discussed.

  • PURPOSE. Grinding with less stress on 3Y-TZP through proper selection of methods and instruments can lead to a long-term success of prosthesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the phase transformation and physical properties after zirconia surface grinding with 3 different grinding burs. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty disc-shaped zirconia specimens were fabricated. Each Ten specimens were ground with AllCeramic SuperMax (NTI, Kahla, Germany), Dura-Green DIA (Shofu Inc., Kyoto, Japan), and Dura-Green (Shofu Inc., Kyoto, Japan). Ten specimens were not ground and used as a control group. After the specimen grinding, XRD analysis, surface roughness test, FE-SEM imaging, and biaxial flexural strength test were performed. RESULTS. After surface grinding, small amount of monoclinic phase in all experimental groups was observed. The phase change was higher in specimens, which were ground with Dura-Green DIA and AllCeramic SuperMax burs. The roughness of surfaces increased in specimens, which were ground with Dura-Green DIA and AllCeramic SuperMax burs than control groups and ground with Dura-Green. All experimental groups showed lower flexural strength than control group, but there was no statistically significant difference between control group and ground with Dura-Green DIA and AllCeramic SuperMax burs. The specimens, which were ground with Dura-Green showed the lowest strength. CONCLUSION. The use of dedicated zirconia-specific grinding burs such as Dura-Green DIA and AllCeramic SuperMax burs decreases the grinding time and did not significantly affect the flexural strength of zirconia, and therefore, they may be recommended. However, a fine polishing process should be accompanied to reduce the surface roughness after grinding.

  • Background: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate efficacy and patient satisfaction of acupuncture or Chuna therapy for back pain. Methods: Amongst all the patients with back pain who had been treated at Sun-cheon korean medicine hospital, Dong-shin university, only patients that had received either acupuncture or Chuna manual therapy between September 1 and October 31, 2017 were selected and their medical charts retrospectively analyzed. A questionnaire was used in the investigation that consisted of a numeric rating scale (NRS), the Oswestry low-back pain disability index (ODI), general, emotional, conversational, and technical satisfaction. The questionnaire was completed before treatment and at weekly intervals (approximately). Treatment efficacy was analyzed using the first and last questionnaires. The last questionnaire was also used to establish patient satisfaction. The data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 21.0. Results: The NRS, Current degree of pain (ODI-1), and total ODI were significantly decreased in both the acupuncture and Chuna groups. The differences in NRS, ODI-1, and total ODI changes between treatment groups were not significant. There were no statistically significant differences between the acupuncture and Chuna groups in terms of general, emotional, conversational, and technical satisfaction. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment significantly reduces NRS and ODI in patients who have back pain without structural transformation, and Chuna therapy significantly reduces NRS and ODI-1 in patients who have back pain with structural transformation. These results indicate that further studies should be conducted in more patients and over a longer period.
