Since previous studies on the 3-dimensional earth pressure have been conducted focusing on the stability of wall, it is very difficult to find a study on the load transfer to the adjacent ground induced by the 3-dimensional active displacement. Therefore, in this study, we tried to find out the load transfer to the adjacent ground induced by the 3-dimensional active displacement depending on the size of rectangular wall which was defined by the aspect ratio, that is, the ratio of the height to the width of the wall. 3-dimensional model tests were performed in order to measure the distribution and the magnitude of load transfer to surrounding grounds. The transferred load was 17.9~30.6% less than the difference between the 3-dimensional active earth pressure and earth pressure at rest. The transferred load of both vertical and horizontal was maximum at the boundary of the active wall. The load transfer range depended on the normalized height of the active wall, and it was 0.67~1.29w in horizontal direction and 1.0~3.0h in vertical direction. The transferred load in horizontal was maximum at the height of the wall. As the aspect ratio increases the location of the maximum transferred load points becomes higher. The ratio of the transferred load area of 56~79% at 0.25w in horizontal direction and 50~58% at 1.0~1.5 in vertical direction. Diagrams showing the distribution and the magnitude of the transferred load depending on the aspect ratio were suggested.

In recent years, the use of underground spaces becomes more frequent and the demands for urban tunnels are rapidly increasing. The urban tunnels constructed in the ground with a shallow and soft cover might be deformed in various forms on the face, which would lead, the tunnels to behavior 3-dimensionally, which may have a great impact on the longitudinal load transfer. The tunnel face might deform in various forms depending on the construction method, overburden and the heterogeneity of the ground. And accordingly, the type and size of the distribution of the load transferred to the ground adjacent to the tunnel face as well as the form of the loosened ground may appear in various ways depending on the deformation form of the tunnel face. Therefore, in this study was conducted model tests by idealizing the deformation behavior of the tunnel face, that were constant deformation, the maximum deformation on the top and the maximum deformation on the bottom. And the test results were analyzed focusing on the deformation of the face and the longitudinal load transfer at the ground above the tunnel. As results, it turned out that the size and the distribution type of the load, which was transferred to the tunnel as well as the earth pressure on the face were affected by the deformation type of the face. The largest load was transferred to the tunnel when the deformation was in a constant form. Less load was transferred when the maximum deformation on the bottom, and the least load was transferred when the maximum deformation on the top. In addition, it turned out that, if the cover became more shallow, a longitudinal load transfer in the tunnel would limited to the region close to the face; however, if the cover became higher than a certain value, the area of the load transfer would become wider.

The computer simulation program that calculates the transient heat load transferred to a passenger vehicle has been developed. Method for modeling mathematically various kinds of the heat load was presented and the derived equations were solved numerically. To find out the accuracy of the simulation program, the correlation of experimental and analytical results was demonstrated. By using this program, the typical characteristics about temperature distribution and instantaneous or of vehicle body color, material of glass, air-conditioning capacity, driving direction, and speed. Under a steady-state condition, the ratios of the heat load, resulting form vehicle body, glass, and interior part, were 35%, 29%, and 36%, respectively.
In order to evaluate the performance of axially of laterally loaded piles experimentaly, pile load tests can be carried out at the site Otherwise stress analyses or subgrade reaction analyses can solve the problem. In this study, stress analysis using FLAC code and subgrade reaction analyses using load transfer curves recommended by API(1993) were performed consistently on the basis of a result of site investigations, and the result of analyses was compared with the measured. As a result the behavior of pile heads was analyzed accurately for both axially and laterally loaded tests. Furthermore axially transferred loads were calculated appropriately for the measured and axial loads were transferred mainly mainly by the frictional resistance rather than by the tip resistance. Consequently, it can be commented that both analysis methods of soil-pile systems are applicable at teh objective site and that solutions may be more accurate if material properties from the site investigation are more explicit.
Geosynthetic-reinforced and Pile-supported (GRPS) embankment method is widely used to construct structures on soft ground due to restraining residual settlement and their rapid construction. However, effect of cyclic loading has not been established although some countries suggest design methods through many studies. In this paper, cyclic loading tests were conducted to analyze dynamic load transfer characteristics of pile-supported embankment reinforced with geosynthetics. A series of 3 case full scale model tests which were non-reinforced, one-layer-reinforced, two-layer reinforced with geosynthetics were performed on piled embankments. In these series of tests, the height of embankment and pile spacing were selected according to EBGEO (2010) standard in Germany. As a result of the vertical load parts on the pile and on the geosynthetic reinforcement measured separately, cyclic loads transferred by only arching effect decreased with strength geosynthetic-reinforced case. However, final loads on the pile showed no differences among the cases. These results conflict with previous studies that reinforcement with geosynthetics increases transfer load concentrated on piles. In addition, it is observed that the load transferred to pile decreases at the beginning of cycle number due to reduction of arching effected by cyclic loading. Based on these results, transferred mechanism for cyclic load on GRPS system has been presented.

Optimal static load balancing in star network configurations is considered. Three kinds of load balancing direction strategies are considered. First, a job arriving at the peripheral nodes may be processed either where it arrived(origin node) or transferred directly to central node Second, a job arriving at the central node may be processed there, or transferred to lightly loaded peripheral nodes. A nonlinear optimization problem is formulated. Using the optimal solution, an optimal load balancing algorithm is derived for the second load balancing strategy. Third a job arriving at the central node or a peripheral node may be processed either at origin node or transferred to another lightly loaded node (central or peripheral). A load balancing algorithm is derived for the third load balancing strategy. The effects of these three load balancing strategies are compared by numerical experiments. During the conduct of these in numerical experiments, several interesting phenomena were observed. The third load balancing strategy improved performance more than the first two other strategies. The second load balancing strategy, as a whole, resulted in only slightly improved performance. Finally, of the central node has larger processing power than the peripheral nodes, the first and third load balancing strategies produce equal performance improvement.
In this study, road transportation tests were conducted with surrogate fuel assemblies under normal conditions of transport to evaluate the vibration and shock load characteristics of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The overall test data analysis was conducted based on the measured acceleration and strain data obtained from the speed bump, lane-change, deceleration, obstacle avoidance, and circular tests. Furthermore, representative shock response spectrums and power spectral densities of each test mode were acquired. Amplification or attenuation characteristics were investigated according to the load transfer path. The load attenuated significantly as it transferred from the trailer to the cask. By contrast, the load amplified as it transferred from the cask to the surrogate SNF assembly. The fuel loading location on the cask disk assembly did not exhibit a significant influence on the strain measured from the fuel rods. The principal strain was in the vertical direction, and relatively large strain values were obtained in spans with large spacing between spacer grids. The influence of the lateral location of fuel rods was also investigated. The fuel rods located at the side exhibited relatively large strain values than those located at the center. Based on the strain data obtained from the test results, a hypothetical road transportation scenario was established. A fatigue evaluation of the SNF rod was performed based on this scenario. The evaluation results indicate that no fatigue damage occurred on the fuel rods.

Nowadays, composite plates are widely used as high-strength structures to fabricate a dynamic loading-resistant armours. In this study, the shock load is applied by an explosion of spherical TNT charge at a specified distance from the circular composite plate. The composite plate contains a two-layer ceramic-metal armour and a poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) target layer. The dynamic behavior of the composite armour has been investigated by measuring the transferred effective stress and maximum deflection into the target layer. For this purpose, the simulation of the blast loading upon the composite structure was performed by using the load-blast enhanced (LBE) procedure in Ls-Dyna software. The effect of main process parameters such as the thickness of layers, and scaled distance has been examined on the specific stiffness of the structure using response surface method. After validating the results by comparing with the experimental results, the optimal values for these parameters along with the regression equations for transferred effective stress and displacement to the target have been obtained. Finally, the optimal values of input parameters have been specified to achieve minimum transferred stress and displacement, simultaneously with reducing the weight of the structure.

A large concentrated load is often transferred to reinforced concrete footing in a tall building. In this study, a foundation system which used high strength precast concrete bearing plate was proposed. This concrete bearing plate has to be strong enough to resist the column load. However, a sufficient bearing strength may not be provided if the column load is too high and the concrete of bearing plate does not have enough strength.
Noise reduction and a simplification of a precision measurement system has been performed by changing analog output mode of a load cell into digital output mode. Usually, analog output signal of a few $\mu V$ from a load cell are amplified by amp and acquired by A/D converter. If the distance from a load cell to a DAS(Data Acquisition System) increases, more noise signals are mixed. So, a microprocessor has been integrated into a load cell so that the amplification and A/D conversion of output signals could be done in close proximity to the lode cell for the reduction in mixing of noise. Obtained data from the load cell like this manner are transferred to a computer with digital values(of TTL level). To simplify the configuration of a multi-channel DAS, RS-485 communication system has used for data transfer.
