Diffusion Length Measurement of the Triplet Exciton in PHOLEDs by using Double Quantum Well Structure

  • PHOLED devices which have the structure of ITO/HAT-CN(5nm)/NPB(50nm)/EML(47nm)/TPBi(10nm)/Alq3(20nm)/LiF(0.8nm)/Al(100nm) are fabricated to investigate the diffusion length of the triplet exciton by using double-quantum-well(DQE) EML structure. To fabricate DQW structures, Ir(ppy)3(2% wt) and Ir(btp)2(8% wt) are used as green and red emission zones, respectively. In DQW structured EML, as shown in Fig. 1, 1nm thick layers of green and red emission zones are located middle of the EML, and the distance between these wells(x) is changed from 0nm to 10nm. As shown in Fig. 2, the emission spectra from DQW PHOLED devices are changed with different x. The intensity of the green emission(520nm) is decreased when x is decreased, and it goes to near zero when x=0nm. This behavior can be identified as the diffusion of the triplet excitons from Ir(ppy)3 to Ir(btp)2 by the Dexter energy transfer(DET). From the external quantum efficiency(EQE) of the red emission, as shown in Fig. 3, the diffusion length of the triplet excitons can be determined by the equation of DET rate, R=A Exp(-2RDA/L), where RDA is donor-acceptor distance and L is the sum of the van der Wals radii. As a result, the measured data of the red EQEs with different x are identified to theoretical result from the equation of DET rate(Fig. 4). From this results, we could confirm that the diffusion length of the triplet excitons can be determined by using DQW structure and this method is very useful to investigate the behavior of the excitons in PHOLEDs.

Effects of Plasma Treatment on Contact Resistance and Sheet Resistance of Graphene FET

  • We investigated the effect of capacitively coupled Ar plasma treatment on contact resistance ($R_c$) and channel sheet resistance ($R_{sh}$) of graphene field effect transistors (FETs), by varying their channel length in the wide range from 200 nm to $50{\mu}m$ which formed the transfer length method (TLM) patterns. When the Ar plasma treatment was performed on the long channel ($10{\sim}50{\mu}m$) graphene FETs for 20 s, $R_c$ decreased from 2.4 to $1.15k{\Omega}{\cdot}{\mu}m$. It is understood that this improvement in $R_c$ is attributed to the formation of $sp^3$ bonds and dangling bonds by the plasma. However, when the channel length of the FETs decreased down to 200 nm, the drain current ($I_d$) decreased upon the plasma treatment because of the significant increase of channel $R_{sh}$ which was attributed to the atomic structural disorder induced by the plasma across the transfer length at the edge of the channel region. This study suggests a practical guideline to reduce $R_c$ using various plasma treatments for the $R_c$ sensitive graphene and other 2D material devices, where $R_c$ is traded off with $R_{sh}$.

열박음축의 고유진동수에 關한 硏究 (A Study on Natural Frequency of Shrink Fit Shaft)

  • 본 논문에서는 열박음 부분을 모델링하여 그 부분에서의 단위길이당 스프링강성을 산정한다음 전달매트릭스를 구하였다. 여기에 MYKLESTAD 방법을 토대로 하여 축의 전달매트릭스를 구하였다. 열박음축에 대해서는 수축공차에 따른 고유진동수를 구하였으며, 열박음효과의 효율성을 위하여 똑같은 크기의 열박음 하지 않은 축과 비교검토 하였으며 이를 실험으로 검토하였다. 연구결과 수축공자가 커지면 커질수록 단위길이당 스프링강성은 증가 하였고 고유진동수도 증가하였다. 그리고 열박음축은 열박음 하지 않은 축보다 고유진동수가 감소하였다.

히트파이프식 제설설비의 열응답 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Response Characteristics of Snow Removing Facilities using Heat Pipe)

  • 본 연구는 제설설비에 히트파이프를 사용할때 기술적, 경제적 문제에 대해서 고찰하고, 히트파이프식의 제설구조물를 제작 설비하는 경우의 적용범위와 작동조건에 따라 전열효과를 실험적으로 검토한 것이다. 제설 제빙용으로 개발된 히트파이프식 설비는 히트파이프 배열의 피치에 관계없이 상호보완적으로 작동하였으며 제설설비를 위해 충분한 성능을 보였다. 작동액체의 충전량은 증발기의 체적을 기준으로 하여 $0.96{\sim}1.3$배인 경우가 가장 적합 하였다. 가열액체의 온도가 증가할수록 안정한 운전이 가능하였고 경사도는 4.5도에서 9도사이가 가장 양호했다. 경사가 크고 가열매체 입구온도가 증가할 때 온도진동수는 증가하고 진폭은 감소하고 열전달 효과는 크게 나타났다.

  • In this study, the effect of relative position of the blade for the fixed vane has been investigated on blade surface heat transfer. The experiments were conducted in a low speed stationary annular cascade, and heat transfer of blade was examined for six positions within a pitch. Turbine test section has one stage composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length of the tested blade is 150 mm and the mean tip clearance of the blade having flat tip is about $2.5\%$ of the blade chord. For the detailed mass transfer measurements on the blade surfaces, a naphthalene sublimation technique was used. The inlet flow Reynolds number is fixed to $1.5{\times}10^5$. Complex heat transfer characteristics are observed on the blade surface due to various flow characteristics, such as separation bubble, relaminarization, transition to turbulence and leakage vortices. The distributions of velocity and turbulence intensity change significantly with the relative position due to the blockage effect of the blade. This causes the variation of heat transfer patterns on the blade surface. The results show that the flow near the leading edge get highly disturbed and deflected toward the either side of the blade when the blade leading edge is positioned close to the trailing edge of the vane. Therefore, separation bubble disappears on the pressure side and overall heat transfer on the relaminarization region is increased. But, due to reduced tip gap flow at the upstream region, the effect of leakage flow on the upstream region of the blade surface is weakened. Thus, the heat transfer characteristics significantly change with the blade positions.

  • This article presents a numerical and experimental investigation for the single-phase forced laminar convective heat transfer through arrays of micro-channels in micro heat exchangers to be used for cooling power-intensive semiconductor packages, especially the stacked multi-chip modules. In the numerical analysis, a parametric study was carried out for the parameters affecting the efficiency of heat transfer in the flow of coolants through parallel rectangular micro-channels. In the experimental study, the cooling performance of the micro heat exchanger was tested on prototypes of stacked multi-chip modules with difference channel dimensions. The simulation results and the experiment data were acceptably accordant within a wide range of design variations, suggesting the numerical procedure as a useful method for designing the cooling mechanism in stacked multi-chip packages and similar electronic applications.

$\gamma$-plane 사파이어 기판 위에 성장한 무분극 ${alpha}$-plane GaN 층의 전기적 비등방성 연구 (A Study of Electrical Anisotropy of n-type a-plane GaN films grown on $\gamma$-plane Sapphire Substrates)

  • 본 논문에서는 무분극 GaN층에서 관찰되는 성장축의 방향성에 따른 전기적 비등방성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구를 위해 $\gamma$-plane 사파이어 기판 상에 유기화학기상증착법 (Metal-organic chemical vapor deposition)을 이용하여 600 nm 두께의 ${\alpha}$-plane n-type GaN층을 성장시킨 후, Ti/Al/Ni/Au (20 nm/ 150 nm/ 30 nm/ 100 nm) 오믹 전극을 증착하여 transfer length method (TLM)로 접촉저항을 측정하였다. 그 결과, ${\alpha}$-plane GaN층이 갖는 축의 방향성에 의한 접촉저항이 차이는 없는 것을 확인하였고, 면저항 측정 시에는 m-축 방향에 비해 c-축 방향에서 발생하는 면저항 값이 약 25%~75% 정도 크게 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 전기적 특성의 비등방성은 c-축 성장방향에 대해 수직방향을 갖는 기저적층결함 (basal stacking faults)의 생성으로 인한 전자들의 거동 저하에 의한 것으로 사료된다.

유한요소해석을 통한 현장 가열 재활용 시공 장비의 가열판 용량에 따른 아스팔트 포장의 열전도성 평가 (Finite Element Analysis of Heat Transfer Effects on Asphalt Pavement Heated by Pre-Heater Unit Used in Hot In-Place Recycling)

  • PURPOSES: The national highways and expressways in Korea constitute a total length of 17,951 km. Of this total length of pavement, the asphalt pavement has significantly deteriorated, having been in service for over 10 years. Currently, hot in-place recycling (HIR) is used as the rehabilitation method for the distressed asphalt pavement. The deteriorated pavement becomes over-heated, however, owing to uncontrolled heating capacity during the pre-heating process of HIR in the field. METHODS: In order to determine the appropriate heating method and capacity of the pre-heater at the HIR process, the heating temperature of asphalt pavement is numerically simulated with the finite element software ABAQUS. Furthermore, the heating transfer effects are simulated in order to determine the inner temperature as a function of the heating system (IR and wire). This temperature is ascertained at $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, and $800^{\circ}C$ from a slab asphalt specimen prepared in the laboratory. The inner temperature of this specimen is measured at the surface and five different depths (1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm) by using a data logger. RESULTS: The numerical simulation results of the asphalt pavement heating temperature indicate that this temperature is extremely sensitive to increases in the heating temperature. Moreover, after 10 min of heating, the pavement temperature is 36%~38% and 8%~10% of the target temperature at depths of 25 mm and 50 mm, respectively, from the surface. Therefore, in order to achieve the target temperature at a depth of 50 mm in the slab asphalt specimen, greater heating is required of the IR system compared to that of the gas. CONCLUSIONS : Numerical simulation, via the finite element method, can be readily used to analyze the appropriate heating method and theoretical basis of the HIR method. The IR system would provide the best heating method and capacity of HIR heating processes in the field.

  • 본 연구에서는 보 이론(beam theory)의 변위함수(displacement function)를 도입하고 전달행렬법을 이용하여 각 배관요소의 경계조건에 대한 고유 진동수와 배관 의 불안정성을 일으키는 유체의 임계속도(critical velocity)를 계산 평가하고, 실험 으로 입증된 Blevins의 결과치와 비교하였다.

  • The volumetric solar receiver is a key element of solar power plants using air. The solar flux distribution inside the receiver should be a priori known for its heat transfer modeling. Previous works have not considered characteristics of the solar flux although they change with radiative properties of receiver materials and receiver geometries. A numerical method, which is based on the Monte Carlo ray-tracing method, was developed in the current work. The solar flux distributions inside multi-channeled volumetric solar receivers were calculated when light is concentrated at the KIER solar furnace. It turned out that 99 percentage of the concentrated solar energy is absorbed within 15 mm charmel length for the charmel radius smaller than 1.5 mm. If the concentrated light is assumed to be diffuse, the absorbed solar energy at the charmel entrance region is overpredicted while the light penetrates more deeply into the charmel. The developed method will help understand the solar flux when only a part of concentrated light is of interest. Furthermore, if the presented results are applied for heat transfer modeling of multi-channeled volumetric solar receivers, one could examine effects of receiver charmel properties and shape on air temperature profiles.
