  • This study was carried out to examine the proportion of fatty acids and contents of trans fatty acid in commercial processed foods in Jeon-Buk area. Contents of trans fatty acid in bakery products ranged from 0.2% to 1.0% per 100 g food. Especially garlic bread and pastry contained the highest amount. Popcorns contained trans fatty acid from 0.0% to 13.4%. Among them, instant popcorns for microwave contained the highest amount, while trans fatty acid was hardly detected in popcorns for theater. And trans fatty acid detected in popcorns was mostly in the form of 18 : 1 trans. The content of trans fatty acid in pizza was nearly 0.2%. Amounts of saturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid were similar between each type of pizza and frozen pizza. Fritters such as fried chickens and vegetables contained trans fatty acid less than 0.2% per 100 g food.

  • The objectives of this study was to explore the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of elementary school students towards trans fatty acids. In addition, the students' preferences and consumption frequencies of processed food items containing trans fats, as well as their food behaviors relating to snack consumption, were investigated. The study population consisted of students from seven provinces, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Kwangju, Gyungnam, Chungnam, and Kangwon. Two schools were selected in each province and one class was randomly chosen in each school. All students from the selected classes were surveyed onsite (N=951). The data were analyzed with chi-square tests and t-tests using SPSS/Windows (ver.15.0) program. The results showed that the students' knowledge levels toward trans fatty acid were very low, particularly on the production process of trans fats. The students perceived that trans fatty acids can cause health problems and should be consumed in low amounts. They also felt there is a need for a good nutrition education on trans fats. Furthermore, the students responded that their most preferred foods were in the order of breads, biscuits, and snacks. The most frequently consumed snack item among 2nd graders was biscuits and among 5th graders it was breads. It was also found that 90% of the students had snacks once a day, and of them, 58% prepared their own snacks. Based on this, we propose that students who allowed to choose their own snacks should be carefully educated on trans fatty acids to prevent excessive consumption of high trans fat foods.

  • This study was undertaken to develop a stable self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) for trans-cinnamaldehyde, a known antibacterial and antifungal agent. A simultaneous analytical method was established for quantification of trans-cinnamaldehyde and its degradant, cinnamic acid. Various surfactants were applied to assess their effect on the aqueous solubility of trans-cinnamaldehyde, and pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were plotted. Of the various formulations tested, the liquid SMEDDS composed of trans-cinnamaldehyde (oil), Cremophor EL (surfactant) and Transcutol P (cosurfactant) at a volume ratio of 10/70/20, produced the smallest emulsion droplet size (around 23 nm). The stability test determined the superior stability of the trans-cinnamaldehyde SMEDDS with constant trans-cinnamaldehyde content and z-average diameter of emulsion, under accelerated and heat stressed condition. Thus, we believe that this novel trans-cinnamaldehyde SMEDDS formulation has the potential to be applied for the development of trans-cinnamaldehyde medicines in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Oxidation mechanisms of methyl linoleate with ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$(TML) were investigated by determining oxidized products using GC-MS during oxidation at $37^{\circ}C$ for 9 days. Oxidized products of TML were found to be methyl octanoate, methyl-8-(2-furyl)-octanoate, 9,13-trans, cis isomer and 9,13-trans, trans isomer. In previous report, oxidation products of methyl linoleate(ML) were methyl-8-(2-furyl)octanoate, 9,13-trans, cis hydroperoxide isomer, 9,13-trans, trans hydroperoxide isomer, and 9-TMSO-12,13-epoxy-10-octadecenoate. In the case of ML, 9-TMSO-12,13-epoxy-l0-octadecenoate was produced instead of methyl octanoate in TML. ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$ quinone, as a major oxidized product of ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$ was formed at the 6th day of oxidation. ${\alpha}-Tocopherol$ quinone was produced rather quickly in lipid media than aqueous media. In oxidation of methyl linoleate, it was shown that the first oxidized product was methyl-9,13-hydroxy-octadecadienoate. As second products, methyl-8-(2-furyl)-octanoate, 9-TMSO-12,13-epoxy-10-octadenoate, and methyl octanoate were oxidized from methyl-9-hydroxy-10-trans, 12-trans-octadecadienoate.

  • The spectral and photophysical properties of trans-1-pyrazinyl-2-(3-quinolinyl)ethylene (trans-3- PyQE) are investigated under various conditions in order to obtain information on ground and excited states. The absorption spectrum of trans-3-PyQE changes slightly with varying degree of solvent polarity ; the. fluorescence spectrum is shifted to the red and becomes broad and structureless as the solvent polarity increases. The fluorescence quantum yield increases with increasing solvent polarity. The fluorescence intensity of trans-3-PyQE decreases as the concentration of methyl iodide increases. The fluorescence spectra of trans-3-PyQE changes markedly upon the variation of the excitation wavelength, presumably due to an equilibrium between conformers originating from the rotation of a quasi-single bond between the quinolinyl group and ethylenic carbon atom. These results indicate that the spectral and photophysical properties of trans-3-PyQE are strongly influenced by solvent, heavy atom, and an equilibrium between conformers

  • Resveratrol (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene), a phenolic substance present in both grapes and wines, has been reported to have certain pharmacological effects. Using an ethylacetate-phase extraction followed by a high performance liquid chromatographic analysis, the concentration of trans-resveratrol was measured in 9 red wines commercially available in Korea, including the Korean red wine (Noul). Noul red wine with a 1998 vintage had a trans-resveratrol concentration of 3.3 ㎎/l, which was rather higher than the concentrations found in other wines (0.19-2.45 ㎎/l) with the exception of the French wine, J. P. Chenet (3.39 ㎎/l). In addition, the grapes of Vitis labrusca cv. Sheridan cultivated in the Kyungsan area showed a trans-resveratrol content of 6.4 ㎎/㎏.

  • In this paper, firstly we discuss some basic axioms of trans Sasakian manifolds. Later, the trans-Sasakian manifold with quarter symmetric non-metric connection are studied and its curvature tensor and Ricci tensor are calculated. Also, we study the η-Ricci solitons on a Trans-Sasakian Manifolds with quartersymmetric non-metric connection. Indeed, we investigated that the Ricci and η-Ricci solitons with quarter-symmetric non-metric connection satisfying the conditions ${\tilde{R}}.{\tilde{S}}$ = 0. In a particular case, when the potential vector field ξ of the η-Ricci soliton is of gradient type ξ = grad(ψ), we derive, from the η-Ricci soliton equation, a Laplacian equation satisfied by ψ. Finally, we furnish an example for trans-Sasakian manifolds with quarter-symmetric non-metric connection admitting the η-Ricci solitons.

  • The increasing complexity of design disciplines expects new theoretical contribution to re-examine the territory of their own practice. The ambition of this paper is to theorize the possibilities of trans-disciplinary landscape architecture with the following three perspectives. First, it traces the canonical influence of Picturesque aesthetics as an agency to confirm the trans-disciplinary work at around-Olmsted period. Second, it investigates the evolving role of collaboration in contemporary Dutch landscape architectural context with the comparison to American modernist approaches to legitimate the trans-disciplinary mechanism. Third, it articulates three series of 'The-Idea-of-Nature' and the trans-disciplinary productions derived from each idea within a theoretical terrain of landscape architecture. And eventually, the author proposes 'multiplicity' of nature, replacing conventional concept of singular nature, to mobilize the location of this discipline and to project the possibility of new core ground beyond the existing theoretical gravity.

  • The $trans{\rightarrow}cis$ photoisomerization and fluorescence of trans-1,2-bispyrazylethylene were investigated in various conditions. The quantum yields of the $trans{\rightarrow}cis$ photoisomerization and the fluorescence intensity of trans-1,2-bispyrazylethylene decrease on going from neutral to acidic or basic solutions. The quantum yields of photoisomerization, however, are little affected by changing the concentration of salt while the fluorescence intensity increases as the concentration of salt increases. pH and salt effects on the energy levels of $^1(n,\;{\pi}^*)\;and\;^1({\pi},\; {\pi}^*)$ states lead to opposing changes in photoisomerization and fluorescence quantum yields. The heavy atom effect on the fluorescence of 1,2-bispyrazylethylene was also investigated.

  • This paper examines the behavior of a 3-dimensional trans-Sasakian manifold equipped with a gradient generalized quasi-Yamabe soliton. In particular, It is shown that α-Sasakian, β-Kenmotsu and cosymplectic manifolds satisfy the gradient generalized quasi-Yamabe soliton equation. Furthermore, in the particular case when the potential vector field ζ of the quasi-Yamabe soliton is of gradient type ζ = grad(ψ), we derive a Poisson's equation from the quasi-Yamabe soliton equation. Also, we study harmonic aspects of quasi-Yamabe solitons on 3-dimensional trans-Sasakian manifolds sharing a harmonic potential function ψ. Finally, we observe that 3-dimensional compact trans-Sasakian manifold admits the gradient generalized almost quasi-Yamabe soliton with Hodge-de Rham potential ψ. This research ends with few examples of quasi-Yamabe solitons on 3-dimensional trans-Sasakian manifolds.
