  • Railway dedicated frequency bandwidth allocation matters are being discussed actively before an introduce of wireless communication based train control system to korean railway industry. Allocating the frequency band, which has great value as a public resource, for suitable use with right amount is particularly important, because of equity in other fields and valuable use of limited resources. In this paper, the feasibility about stable railway communication network operation based on LTE in diverse frequency bandwidth will be discussed with solicitous simulation.

  • In high speed railway system, LTE(Long Term Evolution) based LTE-R(LTE-Railray) mobile technology is used to supply various control signal required for safty operation of train. In this paper, railway communication technology be used in railway communication system based on LTE-R is investigated in focused on application services. Standardization trends for LTE-R technology are also considered. Results of this study can be used as basic data for research and development of LTE-R and railway mobile communication.

  • Concrete slab cracks monitoring of modern high-speed railway is important for safety and reliability of train operation, to prevent catastrophic failure, and to reduce maintenance costs. This paper proposes a curvature filtering improved crack detection method in concrete slabs of high-speed railway via graph-based anomalies calculation. Firstly, large curvature information contained in the images is extracted for the crack identification based on an improved curvature filtering method. Secondly, a graph-based model is developed for the image sub-blocks anomalies calculation where the baseline of the sub-blocks is acquired by crack-free samples. Once the anomaly is large than the acquired baseline, the sub-block is considered as crack-contained block. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method performs better than convolutional neural network method even under different curvature structures and illumination conditions. This work therefore provides a useful tool for concrete slabs crack detection and is broadly applicable to variety of infrastructure systems.

  • Electric power collection is one of the most important factors for the high-speed trains' operation. For the stable current collection, the contact wire of a catenary and the panhead of a pantograph should maintain a constant contact each other. In this paper, the catenary was modeled as a spring with time-varying stiffness from the point of a pantograph moving along the catenary, and the pantograph was modeled as a 3-D.O.F. mass-spring-damper system. Using the adaptive control method, the desired control performance could be obtained with the modeling errors and the time varying parameters.   • Visual inspection using laser vision sensor was proposed for fast and economic inspection and was verified experimentally. Welding is one of the most important manufacturing processes for automotive and electronics industries as well as heavy industries. The weld zone influences the reliability of the products. There are two kinds of weld inspection tests, destructive and non­destructive test. Even though the destructive test is much more reliable, the product should be destroyed, and hence the non­destructive test such as ultrasonic or X­ray test was used to overcome this problem. However, these tests are not used for real time inspection.

  • Multi-axes driving system is more suitable for FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) compared with a conventional single-azis driving system. It has some merits such as flexibility in operation, improvement of net working rate, maintenance free because of no gear train, etc. However, studies on position synchronous control for high precision in the multi-axes driving system are not enough. In this paper, a new method of position synchronous control is suggested in order to apply to the multi- axes driving system. The proposed method is structured very simply using speed and position controller based on PID control law. Especially, the position controller is designed to keep position error to minimize by controlling either speed of two motors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is successfully confirmed through several experiments.

Ultralow Intensity Noise Pulse Train from an All-fiber Nonlinear Amplifying Loop Mirror-based Femtosecond Laser

  • A robust all-fiber nonlinear amplifying loop-mirror-based mode-locked femtosecond laser is demonstrated. Power-dependent nonlinear phase shift in a Sagnac loop enables stable and power-efficient mode-locking working as an artificial saturable absorber. The pump power is adjusted to achieve the lowest intensity noise for stable long-term operation. The minimum pump power for mode-locking is 180 mW, and the optimal pump power is 300 mW. The lowest integrated root-mean-square relative intensity noise of a free-running mode-locked laser is 0.009% [integration bandwidth: 1 Hz-10 MHz]. The long-term repetition-rate instability of a free-running mode-locked laser is 10-7 over 1,000 s averaging time. The repetition-rate phase noise scaled at 10-GHz carrier is -122 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz Fourier frequency. The demonstrated method can be applied as a seed source in high-precision real-time mid-infrared molecular spectroscopy.

  • Infiltration of rainfall causes railway embankment to be unstable and may result in failure. Basic relationship between the rainfall and stability of railway embankment is defined to analyze the stability of embankment by rainfall. An experimental study for defining of infiltration rate of rainfall into slope is conducted in the lab. The results of Rainfall Infiltration show that rainfall Infiltration is not equal to infiltration as like reservoir because rate of rainfall infiltration is controlled by slope angle. Based on these results, boundary condition of rainfall is altered and various numerical analysis are performed. The variation of shear strength, the degree of saturation and pore-water pressure for railway slope during rainfall can be predicted and the safety factor of railway slope can be expressed as the function of rainfall amount, namely rainfall index. Therefore, it is judged that this rainfall index can be a good tool for the rail-transport operation control.

  • This paper introduces a study of improvement for a defect diagnosis of the UM71C track circuit using on HSL. The track circuit on HSL has long operation section. Therefore, when the worker maintain, many times and efforts are spent. So, periodically, we have operated a inspection car. However, we don't know exactly the state changed of the inspection data when track circuit has defect. Actually, We fixed a sample area within operation section on HSL and performed the simulations for short circuit current that is reflected characteristic impedance and propagation factor. We compared the measuring data with the result of the simulation. Using verified simulation program, we estimated inspection data as the malfunction number and the change of capacity of compensation capacitor. These study need to secure of the safety as the train operation. Also, It needs to make a criteria of analysis for the maintenance through comparison simulation data and inspection data.

  • Since the introduction of the subway, remarkable progress has been made so as to be able to produce a Korean standard electric car, but it is rather regretful that an engineer who is not aware of laws on a railroad or involved in a railroad designed a electric car. In the future, the electric cars with up-to-date technology must be introduced, but there are many difficulties in such introduction. For example, the operation of simultaneously moving and running scores of subway trains must comply with Regulation on Railroad Train Operation, so, close examination of these problems is required. The existing electric car, as does a motorcar, varies a little with makers in the type and characteristics. This paper is intended to discuss about the device and measures for reinforcing a function of Daewoo GEC electric car that was introduced by technical tie-up from England, which accounts for the most ratio in this field
