  • This paper deals with the domestic status of rail gap and criteria of the maximum allowable rail gap for the broken rail. Parameteric studies about the maximum allowable rail gap were accomplished by the zimmermann model. The dynamic behavior of broken rail not to be explained by the existing theory was looked into. When a train is travelling along rail gap for the broken rail, dynamic behaviors of rail system and train are abruptly changed. And the opinion about a permission criteria of the rail gab was presented.

  • The approach, for ensuring the quality and safety of a railway software can be considered with two points of views seeing from products, and from processes. The process point of view is to validate maturity of the organizations in accordance to the judging processes of organizations, which are specified by CMMI(Capability Maturity Model Integration) or SPICE(Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination : ISO/IEC15504). In this paper, we are trying to find approaches to estimate the maturity of manufacturer and assessment organization in the railway system.

  • Nowadays traction motors in the urban rail transit vehicle are controlled by VVVF inverter and have capability of regenerative braking. The algorithms to deal with the regenerating vehicle in simulation for the DC traction power supply is introduced in this paper. Substations have to be separated from the system to represent reverse biased rectifiers in substations. The model of the trains in regenerative braking has to be changed from the ideal current source to the constant voltage source since the train input voltage has to be controlled below the certain train maximum voltage. Some mismatches are unevitable because the constraint of the regenerated power can not be imposed with the constant voltage source. The mismatches represent the unused regenerated power. A computer program is developed to verify the validity of the algorithm. The test run result shows the program behaves as it is expected and proves the algorithm's validity.

  • To reduce harmonics in the AC line and achieve a unit power factor, A 4 paralled single phase PWM AC/DC converter has been proposed. In this paper, the coupling components are derived analytically from PWM converter input transformer model and control scheme to solve this problem is proposed. Unit power factor was obtained and the AC-side current harmonics were reduced. Simulation results show the usefulness of the proposed method and applicability to PWM converter in auxiliary block of high speed train.

  • This paper describes a down-scaled model for a high-speed railway train. The propulsion system of simulator consists of four line-side converters four induction motors driven by two inverters, an eddy current braking system, two dynamic braking systems. The control algorithm of traction and braking including anti-skid control can be developed using the simulator. Simulator design procedure. control algorithm and some experimental waveforms are presented in this paper.

  • We develop a method to analyze dynamic behavior off multi-stage gear train system. The example system consists of three shafts supported by ball bearings at the ends of them and two pairs of spur gear set. For exact analysis, the meshing tooth pair of gear set is modeled as spring and damper having time-dependent meshing stiffness and damping. The bearing is modeled as spring. The result of this analysis is compared to that of other model having mean mesh stiffness. The effect of the excitation force by the unbalance off rotor off motor is also analyzed. Finally, the change ova natural frequency of the whole system due to the change of an angle between three shafts is compared in each case, and from this analysis, the avoiding angle for design is advised.

  • In this paper, dynamic behavior of a two stage gear train system is analyzed. This system consists of three shafts supported by ball bearing at the ends of them and two pairs of spur gear sets.   • A large-scale fire test was done for interior materials from a vehicle installed within a fire test room. The interior materials are satisfied with the Korean guide for the safety of rail vehicle. The guide has taken effect since December 2004 in Korea. Ignition source (gas burner) was increased in several controlled steps. The objectives of this test are to assess the fire performance in terms of ignition and flame spread on interior lining materials and to provide data on an enclosure fires involving train interior materials that grow to flashover. This data will be used to develop and calibrate an Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) model for fire growth on the interior vehicle.

  • The design of a current collection system of high speed train requires the fundamental understandings fer the dynamic characteristics of a catenary system and pantograph. The stiffness of the catenary system of high speed train has the varying characteristics for the change of the contact point with a pantograph, since the supporting pole and hanger make the different boundary conditions for the updown stiffness of a trolley wire. The variation of stiffness results in Mathiue equation, which characterizes the stability of the system. However, the two terms variation of the stiffness due to span length and hanger distance cannot be solved analytically. In this paper, the stiffness variations are calculated, and the physical reasoning of linear model and one term Mathieu equation are reviewed. And the numerical analysis for the two term variation of the stiffness is done for the several design parameters of the pantograph.

  • Traditional passive suspension has limitations to meet the required specifications of high level trains, and so Active suspension system is proposed to meet the requirements with active components which could be controlled by external signal for optimized behavior of train. Active suspension is to be divided by Full active suspension and Semi-active suspension whether using the external power source or not, and though the performance of Semi-Active suspension is worse than Full one. Semi-active suspension is focused with its effectiveness per cost. Semi-Active suspension system consists of sensors, ECU (electrical control unit), and variable damper, which are to be designed to be fit for train system. And the software of ECU is to be developed for to be suited to its dynamic behavior through simulation result calculated by proven model. In this experimental study, the hardware and software of semi-active suspension system is to be realized and its performance for improvement of ride quality to be confirmed through roller rig test.
