  • Korea's trade balance in service showed surplus in 2012 on the basis of BPM5. This is recorded by 14 years since 1999. This owes to decrease of deficit in tourism balance, increase of surplus in construction and transportation, and shift from deficit to surplus, even in small portion, in personal cultural recreational services balance. While externally the global economic growth becomes inactive and the Korean Won has appreciated, internally Korean service industry is very weak and is not equipped with international competitiveness. This study intends to look into service surplus items and services deficit items and to present measures that will be able to strengthen competitiveness in service industry. As a short case study, German and Japan was benchmarked, as they are the countries which are developed on the basis of manufacturing like Korea. And in this study, by analyzing surplus items and deficit items in trade balance sheet, it is attempted to suggest policies which would be available for strengthening service industry. As the service industry is a highly value-added one, it is necessary to designate promising categories and intensively foster as strategic industry. Service industry has their own characteristics distinguished with manufacturing goods. It has very different logistics and payment system with manufacturing industry. It means there must be independent support systems which reflect the nature of industrial classification in service industry. It is necessary to provide export support system, to organize export market development group, to support marketing, to set common logistics center, to support diplomatic means, to provide legal service and so on.

  • The Korean plant names Changpo and Sukchangpo, including their related names Suchangpo and Kyeson, were somewhat confusingly used in both the Korean classics and even now. To clarify these names, the names written in the Chinese classics and the Korean classics were examined closely and compared to those of the modern flora of China and Korea. In the Chinese classics, Changpo and Sukchangpo were considered as conspecific with Acorus calamus, which has leaves with distinct veins, whereas Sukchangpo and Kyeson have leaves without distinct veins and are considered as A. gramineus. However, in the Korean classics, these names have been confusingly used thus far. Sukchangpo and Gyeson were considered as A. gramineus, and Sukchangpo and Changpo were considered as A. calamus, erroneously. Therefore, the following corrections are needed: plants having distinct leaf veins were named Changpo (A. calamus), and plants having vague leaf veins were named Sukchangpo (A. gramineus), and the names of Sukchangpo and Kyeson should be discarded to avoid confusion. In addition, to respond to the Convention on Biological Diversity, we propose a study to clarify the taxonomic identities of the plant names written in Chinese script and an examination of the Korean plant names listed in the Korean classics.

  • This Study investigates evaluation policies for goodwill under the current tax law and suggests improvements as follows. First, even though not appear on the financial statements of acquiree at the date of acquisition, the current corporate tax raw regulates that firms need to estimate purchased goodwill including acquisition amount and additionally recognizable intangible property right with no distinction. According to this rule, purchased goodwill from business combination under the current tax raw has a drawback in overestimating. So, there is need of further improvement on the current related purchased goodwill regime to distinguish additionally recognized intangible property right from purchased goodwill. Second, in the consideration of internally generated goodwill, suggested in the current inheritance and gift tax act as a supplementary evaluation technique, the estimated value of goodwill may contain some bias, since the current regulation uniformly applies to all the companies with no industry characteristics. This may particularly become problematic while computing abnormal earnings, uniformly applying the 10% normal return to all the companies since the normal return is not likely to reflect industry characteristics and thus the computed abnormal earnings may be biased. Therefore, there is need to revise the current regulation relating to the normal return, to convert from the existing 10% rule to the industry average rate of return method.

  • Corporate primary goal has shifted from profit-orientation toward broader socially motivated perspectives, over the recent year. According to this phenomena, extensive research have been conducted to assess the empirical association between CSR and firm value. However, the results of previous studies are largely indeterminate which are attributed to the ignoring various indeterminate variables between CSR and firm value. Specifically, the purpose of this paper verifies the empirical association between CSR and firm value with considering capital constraint as core moderator variable by using structural equation modeling(SEM). Main results of this paper are as follows. We find that firms with better CSR performance face lower capital constraint and capital constraint is significantly related to firm value in negative direction, also. The result suggest that better CSR performance is associated with superior stakeholder engagement, in turn, CSR initiatives leads to firm value creation. Also, the capital constraint still remain positive to firm value even if capital constraint is considered moderator variables. Our findings implicated that CSR literatures should consider moderator variables, such as capital constraint, which could be affected firm value.

  • As competition increases, ski resort managers need to search for ways to attract previous visitors or to gain new visitors through word-of-mouth. This study examined the impact of skiers' perceived value, satisfaction and self-congruity on the revisit intention and the positive word-af-mouth intention. Total respondents were also segmented into a promotion-focus and prevention-focus individuals then later examined the differences in the effect of independent variables between groups in order to suggest a managerial direction that will enhance business competency of ski resorts. Results from regression analysis showed that all independent variables utilized in this study were good predictors of two dependent variables. Specially, satisfaction was a highly significant predictor. Promotion and prevention-focused individuals were also differed in evaluating the importance of independent variables for their revisit and word-of-mouth intention. It means that self-regulatory focus is an effective variable for segmentation. More specifically, satisfaction was the only variable influencing the revisit intention for promotion-focused individuals; whereas both satisfaction and self-congruity had significant effects on the revisit intention for prevention-focused individuals. All independent variables had significant effects on the word-of-mouth intention, except self-congruity for promotion-focused individuals. This research suggests several managerial implications on the findings based on the analysis and the characteristics of the visitors.

Data for analysis were collected from 689 vocational teachers who participated in the training at the Center for in-service teacher education in the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University and at the Center for in-service teacher education of Chungnam National University. After screening, 685 responses were used in the analysis. However, vocational teachers seemed to perceive that experience of field practice was generally required in pre-service education(average 4.07). In-depth questionnaire was conducted on 143 respondents who replied that they participated in field practice program for more than 4 weeks and those who participated in the program for less than 4 weeks but completed the paperwork. Most of vocational teachers who participated in field practice were placed in small and medium sized enterprises, stayed at home or relatives' home and commuted by the bus or subway.
