  • In this study, we consider the problem of forecasting the number of inbound foreigners visiting Korea. Forecasting tourism demand is an essential decision to plan related facilities and staffs, thus many studies have been carried out, mainly focusing on the number of inbound or outbound tourists. In order to forecast tourism demand, we use a seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA) model, as well as a SARIMAX model which additionally comprises an exogenous variable affecting the dependent variable, i.e., tourism demand. For constructing the forecasting model, we use a search procedure that can be used to determine the values of the orders of the SARIMA and SARIMAX. For the exogenous variable, we introduce factors that could cause the tourism demand reduction, such as the 9/11 attack, the SARS and MERS epidemic, and the deployment of THAAD. In this study, we propose a procedure, called Measuring Impact on Demand (MID), where the impact of each factor on tourism demand is measured and the value of the exogenous variable corresponding to the factor is determined based on the measurement. To show the performance of the proposed forecasting method, an empirical analysis was conducted where the monthly number of foreign visitors in 2019 were forecasted. It was shown that the proposed method can find more accurate forecasts than other benchmarks in terms of the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE).

  • Indonesia has successfully increased its ranking to 40th place in the 2019 Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index. While tourism has become the country's second largest foreign exchange contributor, there is no existing competitive advantage model for Indonesian tourist destinations. The purpose and novelty of this study is to develop and formulate a competitive advantage model for Indonesia's tourism industry. The model will be based on the supply-side perception analysis of competitiveness indicators from Bali and five designated super-priority destinations in Indonesia. This model is expected to become a guideline for policymakers to design an effective and focused strategy. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews with, and questionnaires given to, 62 qualified industry players from the public and private sectors. This data-driven approach builds a relationship between competitiveness indicators and competitive advantages using a combination of importance-performance analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, thereby leveraging these advantages to generate a strategic model to compete in the international tourism industry. This would also be the first study to use this method in defining the competitive advantage of a destination. Using structural equation modeling, the study found that there are 54 indicators representing twelve dimensions of competitive advantages with good fit criteria.

  • Due to the lack of information, medical tourists are regarded to be at high risk. Prior medical tourism research has found that various types of perceived risks have a significant impact on medical tourists' purchase behavior. Even though medical tourism is predicted to increase, there is a lack of behavioral research to explain how perceived risks affect medical tourists' purchase behavior. In the context of Korean medical tourism, this study attempts to evaluate the effects of multi-level (macro, organizational, and personal) factors on medical tourists' perceived risks and purchase intentions. A conceptual model and hypotheses were built and empirically validated to investigate links between multi-level characteristics, perceived risks, and purchasing intentions. The data for this study was collected from Chinese tourists using a questionnaire. The impact of cognitive country image, affective country image, and medical service quality on fundamental risk is confirmed by statistical testing. Surprisingly, expectancy discrepancy risk is influenced only by cognitive country image and information search capabilities. Both fundamental and expectation discrepancy risks lower medical tourists' purchase intentions. The findings of this study show that a multi-level strategy is required to investigate the links between perceived risks and medical tourism purchasing intentions based on macro, organizational, and personal factors.

  • Despite the increasing adoption of gamification and its huge potential in tourism, research in gamification is still limited. As preliminary findings show that the effectiveness of gamification depends on the context of its application and the players' use of the gamified app, this paper fills in these gaps: by exploring and analysing the application of gamification in a specific e-commerce tourism context; and assessing the gamification's effectiveness by measuring the players' gamification usage and the latter's behavioural and psychological outcomes. The gamified TripAdvisor website and its Facebook enabled gamification app are used as the specific context of the study. Findings from a survey conducted on TripAdvisor users provide useful practical and theoretical implications to gamification designers and researchers alike on how game mechanics can be designed for enhancing the users' motivation, flow, task involvement and engagement with the 'play' tasks, and so, increasing the gamification's effectiveness.

  • This research explores the public's perceptions of the appropriateness of the use of robots in museums and galleries. Using data from an international survey of 1589 participants, the data show that the perceived appropriateness of robot implementation in museums and galleries is driven largely by perceptions of the usefulness and emotional skills of robotic technologies, and their perceived advantages compared to human employees. Additionally, the findings suggest that the general attitudes towards service robots in tourism shape the attitudes towards robots in museums and galleries in particular. Furthermore, the findings reveal that the demographic characteristics of visitors are not related to their perceptions of robots in museums and galleries.

Research design, data, methodology - Data collection was conducted from June 10, 2019 to June 20, 2019, and a total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to collect 352 copies. Factor analysis, reliability verification, and covariance structure analysis were carried out using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 for 321 parts for statistical analysis. Results - First, information, mobility, reliability, and empathy have a significant effect on perceived value. However, usefulness did not appear to have a significant effect on perceived value. This analysis results can increase the reliability of the tourism app, it can be seen that the accurate tourist information services are used in the tourist app or in the place required. Second, information, usability, mobility, and empathy had a significant effect on satisfaction. However, reliability did not have a significant effect on satisfaction. Third, perceived value had a significant effect on satisfaction. Fourth, it had a significant effect on information, empathy, and intention to use. However, the usefulness, mobility, and reliability did not have a significant effect on the behavioral intention. Lastly, perceived value and satisfaction had a significant effect on behavioral intention. Conclusions - The analysis result is that the tourism app that is being used is provided with a reliable and accurate tourism information service, it can be seen that you are using the tourism app in the place or on the go. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to use the tourism app, and it is easy to understand the contents of the service and timely information. Therefore, it is possible to communicate with other users and provide customized services according to needs and desires. The study has the following limitations. This may influence the progress of the research because the respondents' responses to the mobile tourism app service are from different experiences. In addition the accuracy of providing accurate information, the usefulness of using the mobile tourism app, and the ease of communicating with other users can be understood as being relatively satisfactory.
