  • Usually, after the decisions of the performance and range in the commercial vehicle, it is designed the ratings of the electric and mechanical elements for the vehicles. In this paper, the given performance and driving conditions, which are the maximum velocity, mileage, total weight of the normal gasoline scooter, battery type and size, and so on, are analysed for the design of the electric scooter. The maximum rotational speed and needed torque values of the electric motor which is substituted for the gasoline engine are calculated. These values can help to calculate the rating of the electric motor. In the calculation to obtain the torque and speed values, battery discharge and the running resistances are considered. We can decide the electric motor current value from the torque and speed values. The electric motor current values, which are significant parameter to decide the motor type and dimensions and characteristics of the electric motor, are decided by numerical simulation by the above conditions.

  • Bolted joints are commonly used in civil infrastructure and mechanical assembly structures. Monitoring and identifying the connection status of bolts is the frontier problem of structural research. The existing research is mainly on the looseness of a single bolt. This article presents a study of assessing the loosening/tightening health state and identifying the loose bolt by using ultrasonic guided wave in a bolt group joint. A bolt-tightening index was proposed for evaluating the looseness of a bolt connection based on correlation coefficient. The tightening/loosening state of the bolt was simulated by changing the bolt torque. More than 180 different measurement tests for total of six bolts were conducted. The results showed that with the bolt torque increases, value of the proposed bolt-tightening index increases. The proposed bolt-tightening index trend was very well reproduced by an analytical expression using a function of the torque applied with an overall percentage error lower than 5%. The developed damage index based on the proposed bolt-tightening index can also be applied to locate the loosest bolt in a bolt group joint. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a bolt group joint experiment with different positions of bolt looseness was performed. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective to detect and locate bolt looseness and has a good prospect of finding applications in real-time structural monitoring.

  • The single edged blade was efficient to reduce tilling torque requirement than the double edged blade as previous reported study. This study was carried out to find reducing effects of tilling torque requirement of single edged blade comparing to double edged one in according to wearing by tilling operation. The single and double edged rotary blades were attached on same rotary shaft, and tilling operation was done in hard glass land. The wearing weights of the blade were checked out each 3 hrs tilling operation, at same time, the tilling toruqe requirements were measured with soil bin system in laboratory. The results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The edged blade shape was not changed during the tilling operation of the rotary blade. The single edged blade was saved 5-10% in the maximum tilling torque and 3-15% in the mean tilling torque than the double edged blade for total durable period. 2. Generally, the tilling torques according to operation were decreased until original shape was maintained, but it was increased after 12 hrs tilling operation, and the tip shape of rotary blade was changed seriously. It is noted that the tip shape of the rotary blade is another factor affecting tilling torque, it should be desirable to study on the rotary blade tip shape to reduce tilling torque requirement after changing its original shape with wearing.

  • Objective: This in vitro study was undertaken to evaluate the physical, chemical, and biological properties of commercially available metal orthodontic brackets in South Korea, because national standards for these products are lacking. Methods: Four bracket brands were tested for dimensional accuracy, (manufacturing errors in angulation and torque), cytotoxicity, composition, elution, and corrosion: Archist (Daeseung Medical), Victory (3M Unitek), Kosaka (Tomy), and Confidence (Shinye Odontology Materials). Results: The tested rackets showed no significant differences in manufacturing errors in angulation, but Confidence brackets showed a significant difference in manufacturing errors in torque. None of the brackets were cytotoxic to mouse fibroblasts. The metal ion components did not show a regular increasing or decreasing trend of elution over time, but the volume of the total eluted metal ions increased: Archist brackets had the maximal Cr elution and Confidence brackets appeared to have the largest volume of total eluted metal ions because of excessive Ni elution. Confidence brackets showed the lowest corrosion resistance during potentiodynamic polarization. Conclusions: The results of this study could potentially be applied in establishing national standards for metal orthodontic brackets and in evaluating commercially available products.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of isokinetic exercise on muscular performance and thickness of the quadriceps muscle. Methods: Twenty one healthy male students participated in this study. Participants were divided into 2 groups: $60^{\circ}/sec$ of isokinetic exercise (n=7), $180^{\circ}/sec$ (n=7) and $300^{\circ}/sec$ (n=7). Each group did isokinetic exercises 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Each group was measured for peak torque per body weight, average power and total work using a Biodex System 4. Rectus femoris, vastus laterails and vastus medialis were measured for muscle thickness using a SONOACE 6000C. Data were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA using SPSS 12.0. Results: There was a significant time-related effect in peak torque per body weight, average power and total work. There was a significant time-related effect in the vastus medialis and rectus femoris muscle thickness. However, there was a significant group by time interaction for vastus laterlis muscle thickness. Conclusion: Isokinetic exercise may be an effective method for improving quadriceps muscle performance regardless of angular velocity. However, the thickness of the rectus femoris and vastus medialis muscle may be increased regardless of the angular velocity of the quadriceps muscle the vastus lateralis muscle may only be remarkably improved when doing exercise with low angular velocity.

  • In this paper, we derived the formula for estimating the power of the electric motors needed to operate the Decanter-type centrifuge. In the derivation of the formula the sludge-removal torque is to be supplied from the formula derived in the first paper. The intricate nature of the transmission mechanism in the planetary gear trains of the sludge-removal power and torque has been clarified in this second paper. In particular we considered two-motor system, where the main motor drives the machine while the differential-speed control motor plays the role of braking in adjusting the differential speed. Sample calculation for the specific design treated in the first paper showed that the selection criterion for the main motor depends on the lower limit of the differential speed; when the lower limit is set low, it should be selected based on the steadily operating power, while it should be selected based on the starting power when the lower limit is set high. The total power required by both the main motor and the differential-speed control motor increases as the differential speed is decreased. It is suggested that the power loss in the differential-speed control motor could be minimized by attaching an electric generator to it.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of muscular strength of quadriceps, hamstring of knee joint to isokintic, isotonic exercise treatment in stroke. Data was collected from 80 stroke from January 10. 1994 to april 10, 1994 in a Chungnam university hospital. The results were as follows; 1. Peak torque was higher isokinetic than isotonic excercise group both in quadriceps and hamstring of knee joint, 6 weeks, 8 weeks 10 weeks showed statistically significant in isokinetic exercise training group. 2. Total work was high isokinetic than isotonic exercise group both in quadricaps and hamstring of knee joint, 10 weeks 12 weeks showed statistically significant in isokinetic exercise training group. 3. Average peak torque and total work was higher isokinetic than isotonic excercise group both in quadriceps and hamstring of knee joint, showed statistically significant in isokinetic exercise training group (p<0.05).(p<0.01). Isokinetic and isotonic exercise treatment were needed for sutable walk training in stroke. But I think that better method was isokinetic exercise treatment in muscular strength and endurance.

  • Interactions between cage wheel and soil under the wet paddy field condition were analyzed. The cage wheel as a traction aid to driving tires of tractor was attached to the outside of the tires. The driving torque transmitted only to the cage wheel was measured and its effect on the total driving torque by both the tires and cage wheel was analyzed. Mathematical models were developed to predict the soil thrusts y a single lug and by the cage wheel with many lugs, respectively. Experimental results showed that as the diameter of cage wheel increased, positive effects of the cage wheel on the traction also increased. About 33-40% of the total traction force was obtained by the cage wheel with a diameter 1,182mm and 49-55% with a diameter 1,222mm. The peak thrust of the single lug of cage wheel increased by 31% and 59%, respectively when the diameter of the cage wheel increased from 1,182mm to 1,222mm and 1,262mm. The thrust by the cage wheel was estimated by using the developed mathematical models and the results were proved that the models are reliable for the estimation of the traction by the cage wheels.

  • Due to nonlinear-synthetic uncertainty including the total unknown nonlinear load torque, the total parameter variation and the fixed load torque, a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) driving a continuously variable transmission (CVT) system causes a lot of nonlinear effects. Linear control methods make it hard to achieve good control performance. To increase the control performance and reduce the influence of nonlinear time-synthetic uncertainty, an admixed recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomials neural network (ARGOPNN) with a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) control system is proposed to achieve better control performance. The ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system is composed of an observer controller, a recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomial neural network (RGOPNN) controller and a remunerated controller. To insure the stability of the control system, the RGOPNN controller with an adaptive law and the remunerated controller with a reckoned law are derived according to the Lyapunov stability theorem. In addition, the two learning rates of the weights in the RGOPNN are regulating by using the MPSO algorithm to enhance convergence. Finally, three types of experimental results with comparative studies are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the removal torque between prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw. Materials and methods: Three types of implant system (Osstem, Astra, Zimmer) were used. For each system, prefabricated abutment screw (control group) and customized abutment screw (test group) were used to connect the fixture and the abutment (n = 6). Digital torque gauze was used to control the tightening torque and the screws were tightened under each manufacturer's recommendation. 10 minutes after the connection the same tightening torque was applied, and 5 minutes after the second connection, the removal torque was measured. This procedure was repeated 10 times. In the cyclic loading test, 10 minutes after the first connection to the 6 groups (n = 3), the same tightening torque was applied, and a total of 1,000,000 time loading was applied at 30 degree angle to long axis with 50 N load. Repeated measures of ANOVA test (${\alpha}$=.05) was used as statistics to evaluate the effect of repeated loading number on the removal torque. Independent t-test was used to evaluate the difference in removal torque after cyclic loading. Results: The removal torque significantly decreased as the number of loading repetition increased (P<.05). In the 10 time repetition test, there was no significant difference between the prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw of the 3 implant system (P<.05). Also in the cyclic loading test, there was no significant difference between the prefabricated and customized implant abutment screw of the 3 implant system (P<.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, there was no significant difference in the removal torque between the prefabricated abutment screw and customized abutment screws.
