  • The current research dealt with two areas which have been at the center of attention in the field of second language acquisition (SLA): recasts and intake. Although these two are continuously discussed in many studies, not enough research has addressed how they are related. Hence, the current research sought to identify the relationship between learner intake of language forms delivered in the form of recasts in adult EFL classrooms and learner immediate responses to recasts (i.e., uptake). The data were collected from 11 classrooms. A total of 221 recast episodes were observed and learners' responses to recasts were analyzed. On the basis of the recast episodes, multiple-choice recognition tests were developed and administrated to measure learner intake of the linguistic forms targeted by recasts. The study found that a half of recasts brought about learner intake. In addition, the learners responded to recasts in many different ways and their ways of responding were closely related to their intake of linguistic forms targeted by recasts.

  • Further developments on a dynamic biomechanical model are presented to assess musculoskeletal stresses and human responses. The model being developed is an extension of the Articulated Total Body (ATB) Model, originally developed by Calsapan Corp. for the study of human dynamics during automobile crashes, later adopted to the U.S.Air Force to simulate the reactions of aircrew personnel to such forces typically encountered in various phases of flight operations. Further refinements were introduced by Freivalds and Kaleps(1984) to account for a human neuromusculature. In this study, modelling of active neuromusculature was described and simulations of whole-body human motion were performed using the ATB Model. It indicated the potential of using a muscularized biomechanical model coupled with CAD capabilities to simulate human responses in a variety of industrial settings as well. This will serve as a basis of incorporating computer aided design methods into a muscularized biomechanical models.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the user's online searching behavior in IR interfaces of e-journal database systems. The study is purely based on survey methods and tries to analyse the online searching behavior of respondents of social science disciplines who were doing research in three target central universities of Delhi (i.e. DU, JMI, and JNU). For measuring the responses of the respondents in IR interfaces of e-journal database systems, a total of 396 questionnaires were distributed among the students and out of all, 305 responses were used for the study. The findings of the study reveal that most of the students were not using all the facilities offered in IR interfaces of e-journal database systems for their retrieval process and also encourages menu based searches rather than command based searching.

  • In this study, it is explored how fashion brand slogans are categorized by linguistic characteristics and which linguistic characteristic is effective to improve consumer responses. Only 28% out of 1,346 fashion brands that are investigated are using slogans. Sportswear and men's wear are two product categories more often adopting slogans. A total of 11,113 consumers participated in the experimental study to evaluate slogan characteristics (familiarity, understandability, newness, pleasure), slogan attitude, and brand recall of 30 slogan-brand sets that were categorized by Park's 10 linguistic characteristics. In findings, slogans generating positive attitudes toward slogans and a good rate of brand recall tend to have no brand name in slogan, be written in the second-person view, include a futuristic message, and have information weighted on specialties. Slogan typology suggested based on results may be used for the future research as a basic guideline for the research on fashion brand slogans.

  • This paper presents a new efficient method for transient analysis in magnetodynamic systems of linear eddy current problems. This mehtod employs the Fourier transform and the high-order frequency sensitivity of harmonic finite element method. By taking into account the time-constant of magnetodynamic system, the Fourier integral of continuous frequency is converted into the Fourier series of discrete frequency. And with the results of Fourier series expansion of converted input wave form, the responses of each sinusoids is superposed to give the total response of the magnetodynamic systems. But, if the frequency band of input wave form is broad, it takes long computational time since all responses for each sinusoids must be calculated. Therefore, the high-order frequency sensitivity method is employed to estimate the response variation to frequency. The proposed algorithm is applied to an induction heating system to validate its numerical efficiency.

  • Immunositmulation effects of the mice fed with the cell lysate of Lactobacillus plantarum isolated from Kimchi were studied. The mice group fed with cell lysate was different from the control group on the degree of immune responses, e.g. 1) proliferation of splenocytes and Peyer's patch cells, 2) production of nitric oxide (NO) by peritoneal macrophages, 3) production of intestinal secretory lgA (slgA), 4) variation of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-2 concentration in blood, 5) production of specific lgG against sheep red blood cells. A general enhancement in enteric and systemic immune responses was observed with a simple oral administration of immunostimulators. With the oral feeding of L. plantarum, not only the total amount of gut secretion antibody, but also the binding capacity of antibodies to the enteric microorganisms including L. plantarum was increased. These experimental results clearly showed that the oral feeding of immunostimulators gave multifunctional effects on the mucosal and systemic immune systems of mice.

  • In this paper, neutral networks are used to build models of oxide film etched In CHF$_3$/CF$_4$ with a magnetically enhanced reactive ion etcher(MERIE). A statistical 2$\^$4-1/ experimental design plus one center point was used to characterize relationships between process factors and etch responses. The factors that were varied include radio frequence(rf) power, pressure, CHF$_3$ and CF$_4$ flow rates. Resultant 9 experiments were used to train neural networks and trained networks were subsequently tested on its appropriateness using additionally conducted 8 experiments. A total of 17 experiments were thus conducted for this modeling. The etch responses modeled are dc bias voltage, etch rate and etch uniformity A qualitative, good agreement was obtained between predicted and observed behaviors.

  • Changes in physiological and biochemical patterns in lucerne plants caused by the presence of 'Candidatus Phytoplasma australasia', which is one of the significant pathogens causing yield losses in lucerne plants, were investigated. Significant differences were evident in total chlorophyll, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and protein amounts between 'Ca. Phytoplasma australasia'-positive and negative lucerne plants. Stress-related metabolites such as phenol, malondialdehyde, and proline accumulations in 'Ca. Phytoplasma australasia'-positive plants were remarkably higher than those of phytoplasma-negative plants. As a response to disease attack, phytoplasma-positive plants exhibited higher antioxidant enzymes (peroxidase and catalase) and nonenzymatic metabolite responses such as jasmonic and salicylic acids. We state that partial disease responses were revealed for the first time to breed resistant lucerne lines infected by 'Ca. Phytoplasma australasia'.
