  • The research study focuses to analyze the result of the military personnel medical examination and identify the medical conditions of military individuals. The results of this study are as follows. First of all, for the general features of research subjects, there are 60 people who are 39-year-old or less and 60 people in the age of 40-year-old or over of the total 120 research subjects. Secondly, as a result of canonical correlation analysis in between their ages/body mass index(BMI) and the outcomes of medical examination, it derived 3 canonical functions. 2 of the functions out of the 3 demonstrated statistical significance. The research has conjured meaningful results which include that the holistic diagnosis and treatment system for the military officers needs additional enhancement. Also the medical examination is in desperate need of expansion in test items and the associated budget planning should be evaluated in government organizations related to welfare policy.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the standards of quality management in contract foodservice companies. The subject companies were selected by convenient sampling and surveyed for their standards. The questionnaire consisted of 7 categories: managements of food procurement, menu, production, personnel, equipment, information system, and solid waste. As a result of the study, 60% of the respondents appeared to use standard recipes, 51.5% of them spent 21-30% of the total cost as a labor cost, and 70% were reluctant to answer the food cost. The half of the respondents had job description and specification, 74.76% had training manuals on foodservice and computer software program, and 80.6% had a training program for solid waste management.

  • Procedures for estimation of insulation thickness for a horizontal pipe for condensation control or personnel protection has been investigated, parallel to the previous work of a vertical wall case. Parameters include pipe diameter, emissivity, thermal conductivity, and operating temperatures. The results indicated that the surface emissivity plays a very important role in the design of insulation, specially for the case of high temperature application with low Bi. The effect of surface radiation in such case could be up to 65% of the total. Required insulation thickness for the surface temperature control increases as pipe diameter increases and as surface emissivity decreases. Adequate revision of specifications or standards to include newly invented insulation materials with high emissivity has been also suggested.

  • Stress is the main source of a human error or can potentially contribute to it. Recently, the rate of accidents which is associated with human factors among the total aircraft accidents is showing a tendency of gradual increase. In order to prevent the accidents related to human factors, stress mitigation of the mission personnel is highly required. In this study, a 'stress cognitive alteration' technique, which is one of the stress relief methods, is applied to the Air Force pilots to verify if the technique is effective in reducing stress. The 'stress cognitive alteration' technique is comprised of two parts: a positive function of stress and a process to positively alter the physical, psychological response to stress. As a result of the application, it is found that this technique has an effect of reducing stress of the pilots under a relatively high level of stress.

  • This paper presents an econometric model for measuring basic research capacity index(BRCI) of each OECD countries and analyses the gap in terms of time lag measured and forecasted in connection with factor analysis and BRCI progress function. Based on the analysis, gross domestic expenditure on R&D(GERD), total R&D personnel higher education expenditure on R&D(HERD) and number of science and technical papers based on SCI are more effective than other factors to BRCI. Also, BRCI progress function shows that 29 years is needed for Korea to catch up the level of German's BRCI of year 1998. But, it's impossible for Korea to catch up US and Japan. Therefore, with restricted scientific resources, Korea's own strategy for strengthening basic research capacity is going to be more important in 21st century.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing care workers' intention of hand hygiene implementation in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A total of 180 care workers working at long-term care hospitals were recruited. Data collection was done from July 22 to September 7, 2018. Results: The significant TPB variables influencing the intention of hand hygiene implementation were perceived behavior control (β=.41, p<.001), normative belief (β=.28, p<.001) and attitude toward behavior (β=.15, p=.014). These factors explain 39% of care workers' intension of implementing hand hygiene in long-term care hospitals. Conclusion: In order to strengthen the commitment of hand hygiene, it is necessary to have a positive attitude toward hand hygiene by eliminating the obstacles to hand hygiene.

  • The crew operation scheduling problem is divided into duty generation and duty allocation. The railway crew roster scheduling(duty allocation) is developed monthly for each crew's office, considering the car types and crew's driving ability. However, it is very difficult to make schedules which assign monthly working hours to each crew evenly. The purpose of this thesis is to minimize the differences between each crew's total duty times and make a rostering table. To minimize the differences among monthly working hours of each crews are grouped according to car type and crew's driving ability and a rostering table which could be shared by the group members is developed. Our approach is to apply the techniques of Constraint Programming in order to solve such problems efficiently. This algorithm is suitable to solve optimization problems which involve many complicated constraints. And including the concept of cost, we suggested the model which enable to make the rostering table with a minimum personnel.

  • Railway accidents/incidents occur because of many reasons. Human error by the railway staff or personnel takes a major part of those reasons. In order to reduce and prevent railway accidents/incidents, appropriate measures should be developed to remove root causes induced in human error. A systematic study for analysing causes of human errors and for developing an effective management is necessary. Detailed analysis of the railway traffic signaller's tasks should be preferentially performed for this purpose. This paper introduces the results of analysis for the types and characteristics of the railway traffic signaller's tasks. As a result of the analysis, the railway traffic signaller's tasks can be decomposed into 24 tasks in total, and also be divided into the general task and the emergency task. The railway traffic signaller's tasks are characterized to require continual confirmation and observation activities, and sometimes immediate decision and action.

  • Further developments on a dynamic biomechanical model are presented to assess musculoskeletal stresses and human responses. The model being developed is an extension of the Articulated Total Body (ATB) Model, originally developed by Calsapan Corp. for the study of human dynamics during automobile crashes, later adopted to the U.S.Air Force to simulate the reactions of aircrew personnel to such forces typically encountered in various phases of flight operations. Further refinements were introduced by Freivalds and Kaleps(1984) to account for a human neuromusculature. In this study, modelling of active neuromusculature was described and simulations of whole-body human motion were performed using the ATB Model. It indicated the potential of using a muscularized biomechanical model coupled with CAD capabilities to simulate human responses in a variety of industrial settings as well. This will serve as a basis of incorporating computer aided design methods into a muscularized biomechanical models.
