The brake judder is a phenomenon that the steering wheel is abnormally vibrating when the car is braked at a high speed. It is classified by the cold and the hot judder. The former is generated due to the initial uneven disk surface and the latter is resulted from the uneven heat spots on disc surface by repeatedly braking. There are two ways to reduce the judder. One is to control vibration by modification of the disk shapes and pad ingredients. The other is to improve modal characteristics of the suspension system. The latter approach is used in this research. In this paper, the real vehicle test and computer simulation are considered to systematically understand the judder phenomenon of the vehicle. The Macpherson strut suspension is employed. Especially, the judder sensitivity is calculated based on design sensitivity analysis. A bush stiffness was reworked and braking test was done to verify the sensitivity result. The judder reduction by the mode control was verified.
This paper describes the design processes and evaluation results of a small-sized six-axis force/torque sensor. The new six-axis force/torque sensor including S-type structure has been developed using a parallel plate structure as a basic sensing element. In order tominimize coupling errors, the location of strain gages has been determined based on the finite element analysis and the connections of strain gages have been made such that the bridge circuit with 4 strain gages becomes balanced. Several design modifications result in a similar strain sensitivity for six-axis forces and moments, and the reduced coupling errors of 2.6% FS between each forces and moments. Calibration test results show that the six-axis load cell developed which has light weight of 135g and the maximum capacities of 196 N in forces and 19.6 N.m in moments is estimated to be within 7.1% FS in coupling error.
This research studies the effect of geotechnical factors on EPB-TBM performance parameters. The modeling was performed using simple and multivariate linear regression methods, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and Sugeno fuzzy logic (SFL) algorithm. In ANN, 80% of the data were randomly allocated to training and 20% to network testing. Meanwhile, in the SFL algorithm, 75% of the data were used for training and 25% for testing. The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained between the observed and estimated values in this model for the thrust force and cutterhead torque was 0.19 and 0.52, respectively. The results showed that the SFL outperformed the other models in predicting the target parameters. In this method, the R2 obtained between observed and predicted values for thrust force and cutterhead torque is 0.73 and 0.63, respectively. The sensitivity analysis results show that the internal friction angle (φ) and standard penetration number (SPT) have the greatest impact on thrust force. Also, earth pressure and overburden thickness have the highest effect on cutterhead torque.
This paper presents a robust and speed-sensorless stator flux estimation for induction motor direct torque control. The proposed observer is based on sliding mode approach. Stator electrical equations are used in the rotor orientation reference frame to eliminate the observer dependence on rotor speed. Lyapunov's concept for systems stability is adopted to confine the observer gain. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the observer to parameter mismatch is recovered with an adaptation technique. The nonlinearities of the pulse width modulation voltage source inverter are estimated and compensated to enhance stability at low speeds. Therefore, a new method based on the model reference adaptive system is proposed. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
This paper is about electromagnetic vibration source in outer rotor type of BLDC motors. Experiments are carried out with three pole-slot combinations which are 6 slots, 12 slots, and 24 slots with 4 poles rotor. According to results, vibration sources separate into electromagnetic and mechanical factors. Using the finite element method (FEM), It is analyed that vibration characteristics of electromagnetic source in each type. This paper shows electromagnetic sensitivity to vibration, and introduces necessary point in lower vibration motors. Also rotor balance is important to prevent uneven distribution of magnetic flux between rotor and stator.
This paper proposes a fuzzy speed tracking controller and a fuzzy rotor angular acceleration observer for a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) based on the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The proposed observer-based controller is robust to load torque variations since it utilizes rotor angular acceleration information instead of the load torque value. Linear matrix inequality (LMI) sufficient conditions are given to compute the gain matrices of the speed tracking controller and the observer. In addition, it is mathematically verified that the proposed observer-based control system is asymptotically stable. Simulation and experimental results are presented to confirm that the proposed control algorithm assures a better transient behavior and less sensitivity under model parameter variations than the conventional PI control method.
In using a performance model of a torque converter determined by its gemetric condition, it is possible that the analysis of two arbitrary converters produces the the same results because of the same value of equivalent parameters despite their different shapes. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the effect of shape factor on dynamic perfomance, and equivalent parameters reoresenting a performace model of a converter should into its defined by the behavior of flow field. In this study, torus flow of a torque converter is changed into its equivalent system defined by the behavior of flow, and govering equations for the system are presented and used for analysis. Equivalent parameters are obtained from the results of flow analysis and are compared with parameters of one dimensional performance model. The influence that shape change of a converter has on the behavior of flow and the equivalent parameters is studied qualitatively.
Intake E-CVVT noise, generally caused by collision sound of roller and cage clearance at idle and driving condition, is considerable source of annoyance in passenger cars using the gasoline engine. Main source of this noise is the cam torque variation of an intake E-CVVT system, and can be controlled by clearance decrease such as backlash reduction, but which may increase the manufacturing cost. Thus in this paper, most effective solution for low noise intake E-CVVT was achieved through not only reduction of backlash and cam angular acceleration but also improvement of vehicle transfer system, which is optimal configuration through acoustic sensitivity optimization of engine mount support bracket.

High-performance Current Source Inverter (CSI)-fed, variable speed alternating current drives are prepared for various industrial applications. CSI-fed Induction Motor (IM) drives are managed by using different control methods. Noteworthy methods include scalar Control (V/f), Input-Output Linearization (IOL) control, Field-Oriented Control (FOC), and Direct Torque Control (DTC). The objective of this work is to compare the dynamic performance of the aforementioned drive control methods for CSI-fed IM drives. The dynamic performance results of the proposed drives are individually analyzed through sensitivity tests. The tests selected for the comparison are step changes in the reference speed and torque of the motor drive. The operation and performance of different vector control methods are verified through simulations with MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.
Euler and Navier-Stokes flow analyses for helicopter rotor in hover were performed as low and high fidelity analysis models respectively for the future multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO). These design-oriented analyses possess several attributes such as variable complexity, sensitivity-computation capability and modularity which analysis models involved in MDO are recommended to provide with. To realize PC-based analyses for both fidelity models, reduction of flow domain was made by appling farfield boundary condition based on 3-dimensional point sink with simple momentum theory and also periodic boundary condition in the azimuthal direction. Correlations of thrust, torque and their sensitivities between low and high complexity models were tried to evaluate the applicability of these analysis models in MDO process. It was found that the low-fidelity Euler analysis model predicted inaccurate sensitivity derivatives at relatively high angle of attack.
