The vibration and noise of gears is due to the vibration exciting force caused by the tooth stiffness which changes periodically as the mesh of teeth proceeds and by the transmission error, that is, the rotation delay between driving gear and driven gear caused by manufacturing error and alignment error in assembly and so on. The purpose of this study is to develop how to calculate simultaneously the optimum amounts of tooth profile modification, end relief and crowning by minimizing the vibration exciting force of helical gears. We estimate the vibration exciting force by the mesh analysis of gears. The constraints of this problem consist of contact ratio and strengths of gear teeth such as tooth fillet stress, surface durability and scoring. ADS(Automated Design Synthesis) is used as an optimization tool. And, since the aspect ratio is an important parameter of tooth modification, we investigate the relation between it and the optimum values of tooth modification. The proposed method can calculate the optimum amount of tooth modification automatically and is to be utilized to resolve the problem of vibration of helical gears.
80 patients who presented at Wonkwang University Dental Hospital with craniomandibular disorders were collected for this study. To observe the occlusal contact pattern such as contact numbers, contact force and presence or absence of anterior occlusal contact, the author used T-Scan system (Tekscan, Inc, U.S.A.) with are computerized occlusal analysing system. And to study the correlation between craniofacial profile and occlusal contact pattern, cephalogram were also taken, The cephalometric items related to growth pattern, jaw bone relation and denture pattern were measured and analysed according to routine method by computerized program. The obtained data were statistically processed with SPSS/PC+ package about anterior contact pattern and its craniofacial relationship. The obtained results were as follows : 1. In terms of growth pattern, patients without anterior tooth contacts showed a tendency to downward growth of craniofacial profile. The value in this subjects were significantly different from the value of patients with anterior tooth contacts in items of low gonial angle, Jarabak ratio, SN to GoMe angle, FMA, occlusal plane to mandibular plane angle and ramus height. 2. In terms of jaw bone relationship, patients without anterior tooth contacts showed a tendency to backward growth of craniofacial profile. The value of this patients were significantly different from the value of patients with anterior tooth contacts in items of SNB, ANB, mandibular plane to anterior cranial base ratio, SNPo, NAPo and APDI items. 3. But in denture pattern, no statistically significant difference by the presence or absence of anterior tooth contacts were showed between this patients groups. 4. From this study, it could be proposed that anterior open bite in the patients with craniomandibular disorders would be originated from not dental discrepancy but skeletal discrepancy.
The sub-surface stress field beneath the gear's contact surface caused by the surface pressure in lubricated condition is analyzed. To evaluate the influence of the clearances between a gear tooth and a pinion tooth on the stress field, two kinds of tooth profile models - conventional cylinder contact model and new numerical model - were chosen. Kinematics of the gear is taken into account to obtain the numerical model which is the accurate geometric clearances between a gear tooth and a pinion tooth. Transient elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) analysis is performed to get the surface pressure. The sub-stress field is obtained by using Love's rectangular patch solution. The analysis results show that the sub-surface stress is quite dependent on both the surface pressures and the profile models. The maximum effective stress of the new model is lower than that of the old model. The depth where the maximum effective stress occurs in the new model is not proportional to the intensity of the external load.
Upon reviewing recent trends for robots, it can be seen that robots are gradually being miniaturized. However, most commercially available speed reducers have limitations in terms of structure and vibration when applied to small robots. In this respect, a tooth profile manufactured using thin plates was designed using balls and data analyzed related to numerical and FEM analysis. The speed reducer was manufactured to check their performance. The manufactured thin plate type speed reducer imposes less compressive stress on its tooth profile and balls, which can greatly increase feasibility.
When gears mesh, shock and noise are produced as results of tooth error and tooth deformation under load. Transmission error (TE) is the most important cause of gear noise and vibration because TEs affect the changes of the force and the speed of gears. Gear tooth modification research plays a positive role in reducing TE and improving the design level and transmission performance of transmission systems. In high-precision manufacturing gear, gear tooth modification is also commonly used to reduce noise in practical applications. In order to study the accuracy of gear transmission, some empirical gear profile micro-modifications are introduced, and a helical gear pair is modeled and analyzed in RomaxDesigner software to investigate the utility of these modification methods. Some of these will be selected as experimental proposals for gear pairs, and these manufactured gears will be tested and compared in a semi-anechoic room later. The final purpose of this study is to find reasonable and convenient empirical formulae to facilitate improved gear production.
In this study, parameters and requirements of an 120kW class monorail planetary gearbox was analysed and the adaptive planetary gearbox design was selected. The specification of the sun gear, planetary gear and carrier was set and the profile & lead was optimized. The mechanical efficiency of the optimized one and the original one was observed. Dynamo-tester system was used to observe the mechanical efficiency of the planetary gearbox. A dynamo unit was connected with the planetary gearbox which straightened through the motor by a coupling. The standard tooth shape planetary gearbox and modified tooth shape planetary gearbox were used as test pieces and the rotation speed was set from 600 to 6000rpm with 600rpm, 2.5min one step. In order to check the mechanical efficiency of the planetary gearbox, the tests were done as follows. 1) The power loss between driving motor and dynamo tester. 2) Temperature variation by different rotation speeds. 3) Noise variation by different rotation speeds.
This paper describes a computer aided design system for spur and helical gears. To establish the appropriate program, an integrate approach based on a rule-base system was adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package called AutoCAD. This system includes a main program and five sub-modules such as data input module, tooth profile drawing module, strength calculation module, and drawing edit module. In the main program, all the sub-modules are loaded and the type of gear and tooth profile are selected. In the data input module, the variables which are necessary to the design of gear are selected from the database. In the drawing module, from the calculated results, the required gear tooth is produced on the screen. The developed system that aids gear designer provides powerful capabilities for gear design.
The area of gear vibration and noise, has recently been the focus of many studies. The proper kinematic and geometric design of gears, the mathematical modeling of gear system are essential for a good design. This work present a gear disign for reducing noise, and practical approaches used for machinery noise reduction slong with the summary of methods available for predicting gear noise in terms of the transmis- sion error, and show a comparative study with other methods. A new tooth profile modification is proposed for reducing vibration and noise of involute gears. The method is based on the use of cubic spline curves. The tooth profile is constrained to assume an involute shape during the loaded operation. Thus the new gear profile assures conjugate motion at all points along the line of action. The new profile is found to result in a more uniform static transmission error compared to not only standard involute profile but also modificated profile therby contributing to the improvement of vibration and noise characteristics of the gear.
This paper describes the method that can construct kinematically admissible velocity fields for forging of gear-like components which have tooth shape around the cylinder. The kinematically admissible velo- city fields for the various gear-like components, involute spur gear, trapezoidal spline, square spline, ser- ration and trochoidal gear, were constructed by pilling up the velocity components according to the shape of tooth and billet. The billets, of hollow and solid, were Al 2218 and 2024. To verify the method, the analyses and experiments were carried out and compared with each other. For analyses, the half pitches of com- ponents were divided into several deformation regions based on their tooth profile. A neutral surface was used to represent the inner flow of material during forging. Its location varied with the energy optimazation and its contour varied with the number of teeth. In experiment, the contour of material filling up the tooth zone is hyperbolic curve caused by the frictional drag on the interface of die-wall/workpiece but, in the analysis, it is an arc which retains the same contour during all forging operation.
This study deals with finish roll forming by forced displacement can be conceived as a method of eliminating errors in conventional form rolling under constant loads. This method produces a high-precision tooth profile by low-speed form rolling when a high rigid screw or cam is used at the pressurized section. Tooth profile is decided in the beginning of roll forming and ${\delta}_{max}$ mainly increases if the number of roll forming process is increased. Gear class is improved by one or two class after roll forming if the gear has convex type error and pressure angle error in KS 4 class. If the gear have concave type error and pressure angle error and pressure angle error, gear class is not improved in theory, but improved a little in practice. In the finishing roll forming, it inevitably yields both the concaving of tooth profile and plastic deflection of addendum of teeth. Experiments show that the concaving and the plastic deflection are successfully reduced, the accuracy of tooth profile reaches to KS 0 class.
