  • For theoretical estimate of closed-die forging pressure, upper-bound method is applied to the involute tooth profile. In the analysis, the deformation regions have been divided into several zones. A constant frictional stress has been assumed on the contacting surfaces. Utilizing the formulated velocity fields, numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth and friction factor, on the forging of spur gears. Very close agreement was found between the predicted values of forging load and those obtained from experimental results.

  • An industrial robot noise has various noise sources such as gears, motors, bearings, and controller fans. Among these, gears are the most dominant source for noise. The gear noise, caused by tooth profile, elastic deformation, machining error and wear, is directly correlated with the transmission error of mating gear. Due to the fact that has several axis and many gears, it is difficult to understand the characteristics of the vibration and noise of robots. (omitted)

  • In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical billet placed in a die insert. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduced to represent tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears.

  • This study presents the development of a round recliner using the finite element method. That reduces the number of test repeating times and gives an information about stiffness. A simulation model of round recliner mounting seat module and tooth strength simulation are established using a PAM-CRASH and ABAQUS. With the optimization of gear profile, structural strength design of round recliner was achieved. The round recliner seat module simulation, structure strength simulation and a crash safety are requested by FMVSS test. Solution of round recliner optimum variable study and design problem are searched for round recliner stress, deformation and application. Also an examination of safety is made.

  • Main sources of the vibration in gear driving system are transmission error and backlash. Transmission error is the difference of the rotation between driving and driven gear due to tooth deformation and profile error. Vibro-impacts induced by backlash between meshing gears lead to excessive vibration and noise in many geared rotation systems. Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the gear driving system due to transmi- ssion error and backlash are investigated. Transmission error is calculated for spur gear. Nonlinear equation of motion for the gear driving system is developed with the calculated transmission error and backlash. Numerical analysis of the equation and the experimental results show the existence of meshing frequency, superharmonic compon- ents. Instability of the gear driving motion is found on the basis of Mathieu equation. Rattle vibration due to backlash is also discussed on the basis if nonlinear jump phenomenon.

  • Traditionally, goals of orthodontic treatment fall into four categories: good tooth alignment, improvement of skeletal profile and good soft tissue, and rehabilitation of the normal function. Electromyography (EMG) has proven as useful tool in evaluating masticatory function among the maxillomandibular relationship and could be useful in accompanying orthodontic treatment objectives. But in pursuit of clinical application, it is necceassry to systemize clinical guideline for diagnosis by EMG records in evaluating the effects of orthodontic, orthopedic, or surgical treatment. This study present 3 orthodontic cases, which treatment results, ie neuromuscular balances of masticatory muscle, could be moitered by EMG procedure.

  • Broaching is widely used for the machining of inner shaped slots in work-pieces. The broach tool is moved vertically (usually by hydraulic power) through the work-piece. Broaching occurs with the work-pieced fix while the broach tool traverses through material and shears it. To produce a T/F driven gear both an outside cutting and an inside cutting are needed. The outside cut determines the tooth profile and the inside cut determines the inner dimension. Broaching can cause problems with concentricity. In the current study, the characteristics of shearing along the cutting blade and the broaching of a T/F driven gear are considered.

  • Recently, precision forging techniques are applied to manufacture spur gears. Compared to conventional machining, they produce parts of better mechanical properties and less residual stresses with a much higher production rate. In the present investigation a rigid-plastic three dimensional finite element method was applied to analyze hot forging and cold sizing of a spur gear by closed dies. The involute curve of a tooth profile was approximated by a circle close to the curve. Results of the analyses make it possible to predict local strengths of the gear die failure and an appropriate preform for cold sizing. It was found that the preform for cold sizing. It was found that the preform for the cold sizing is the most important because it determines whether the gears especially teeth can be successfully formed.

  • The gear whine noise caused by tooth profile, elastic deformation, machining error, wear is directly correlated with the transmission error of mating gear. It is very important to build up the synthesized countermeasure by the modeling of the excitation forces and analyzing the vibratory characteristics. The mathematical models on the elements of vehicle transmission which is composed of helical gears, bearings, shafts and cases are developed. The elements are assembled by the substructure synthesis method. The cases of transmission are modeled by ANSYS. The system model of vehicle transmission is also verified by the experiments.

  • Skeletal Class III malocclusion is a relatively common form of malocclusion in Korea. In borderline cases where only mild skeletal discrepancy exists and if worsening of the facial profile is expected as a result of premolar extraction, mandibular full arch distalization with miniscrews is the treatment of choice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the pattern of tooth movement and evaluate the stability of mandibular full arch distalization and to identify correlation between stability and factors such as initial skeletal pattern, dental changes during treatment and alveolar bone in symphysis region using lateral cephalograms.
