  • This study shows a way to develop ergonomic design of a plier through quality function deployment (QFD) approach. User needs for pliers, as well as the engineering characteristics which have influence on the ergonomic quality of pliers were determined from the interviews and questionnaires with various user groups. This information was entered in the house of quality, and the results show that the handle is the most important quality factor. A new model was proposed in which ergonomic and gender aspects were considered. QFD is considered a suitable method especially for the manufacturing and/or design fields where biomechanical or physiological background is not present.

  • QFD (Quality Function Development) provides a great tool not only to arrange and evaluate VoC(Voice of Customers) and ) and (Voice of Engineers), but also to link and combine VoC and VoE, thereby present ing explicit direct ions for quality improvement. There have been, however, few researches on QFD in the IT industry The case study discussed here serves an illustration of the applicability and usefulness of the QFD approach to website quality improvement . The proposed QFD framework shows great potentials since customers needs are explicitly considered in the framework, and it helps network administrators develop better web services by providing guidelines for redesigning or reengineering the website operations.

  • This paper presents a stereo vision based autonomous inspection system for welding quality control of a RV(Recreational Vehicle) sinking seat. The three dimensional geometry of the welding bead, which is the welding quality criteria, is measured by using the captured stereo images with a median filter applied on it. The image processing software for the system was developed using the NI LabVTEW software with NI vision system. In the manufacturing process of a RV sinking seat, the developed system can be used for overcoming the precision error that arises from a visible inspection by an operator. The welding quality inspection system for RV sinking seat was verified using experimentation.

  • Spatial and temporal analyses of water qualities were performed for 11 monitoring stations located in Mangyung watershed in order to analyze the trends of monthly water quality data of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP) measured from 1995 to 2004. The long-term trends were analyzed utilizing Seasonal Mann-Kendall test, LOWESS and three-dimensional graphs were constructed with respect to distance and time. The graph can visualize spatial and temporal trend of the long-term water quality in a large river system. The results of trend analysis indicated that water quality of BOD and TN showed the downward trend. This quantitive and quantitative analysis is the useful tool to analyze and display the long-term trend of water quality in a large river system.

  • Variational data assimilation, which is recently introduced to the air quality modeling, is a promising tool for obtaining optimal estimates of initial conditions and other important parameters such as emission and deposition rates. In this paper. two advanced techniques for variational data assimilation, based on the adjoint and quasi-inverse methods, are tested for a simple air quality problem. The four-dimensional variational assimilation (4D-Var) requires to run an adjoint model to provide the gradient information in an iterative minimization process, whereas the inverse 3D-Var (I3D-Var) seeks for optimal initial conditions directly by running a quasi -inverse model. For a process with small dissipation, I3D-Vu outperforms 4D-Var in both computing time and accuracy. Hybrid application which combines I3D-Var and standard 4D-Var is also suggested for efficient data assimilation in air quality problems.

  • ZnTe epilayers have been successfully grown on (100) CaAs substrate by hot wall epitaxy (HWE) with Zn reservoir. Optimum growth condition has been determined by a four-crystal rocking curve (FCRC). It was found that Zn partial pressure from h reservoir has a strong influence on the quality of grown films. Under the determined optimum growth condition, ZnTe epitaxial films with thickness of 0.72~24.8${\mu}m$ were grown for studying the effect of the thickness on crystalline quality. The FCRC results indicated that the quality of ZnTe films becomes higher rapidly with increase of thickness up to 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The best value of the FWHM of the few crystal rocking curve, 66 arcsec, was obtained on the film with $12{\mu}m$ in thickness. Until now, this result shows the best quality of ZnTe/GaAs films in reported.

  • This paper shows a case study on quality confirmation and maintenance monitoring of the tunnel underpassing the Han River. First of all, when it comes to the quality confirmation, soil investigation techniques and shotcrete core test will be improved. On the construction stages, quality control procedures are needed. Second, on the maintenance monitoring, it is the main tool to control stability and safety of the tunnel structures throughout the construction period. On the geotechnical monitoring instrumentation, some considerations such as installation of monitoring sections in time, immediate base readings, adequate reading frequency, etc - shall be improved.

  • We have developed three evaluation checklists of educational softwares for users such as, learners, teachers and parents, not for the software develops or designers. This study has especially focused on CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet. The followings were selected as the essential attributes that the educational softwares of high quality should possess : ease of use, technical support and interest of learning for learners, educational value and smartness for teachers, packaging integrity, investment value and childproof for parents. The evaluation checklists were developed on the basis of evaluation criteria which were concretion of the essential attributes. The validity of the evaluation checklists was supported by a theoretical study for the development of ckecklists and the actual development process. The interrater reliability and the retest reliability were confirmed by statistical methods. Thus, the developed checklists can be a useful tool to evaluate educational softwares. This study will contribute to improvement of the software quality and help users in selecting educational softwares.

  • Many Swedish health care organizations have during the last decade started implementing the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a systematic way of following-up and analyzing their activities. However, the knowledge of its use and contribution in a health care context is insufficient. Based on a multiple case study the authors explore the use of the BSC in the Swedish health care services. The authors conclude that the concept in a health care context is used as a quality management tool that make new demands on management. In addition, the authors bring out important factors for a long-term use of the BSC.

  • The purpose of this study is to implement web-based quality cost management system to measure the performance of quality improvement activities in the business firms. Developed WQCMS(Web-based Q-Cost Management System) have ability to collect and analyze quality data generated from various different departments in the inside or outside of the enterprise without any limitations, if end-users are able to access wide area network. It provides the capability to integrate quality information from database and to generate various easy analysis reports to management's needs using built-in analysis tool modules with real-time. The proposed system was developed using Microsoft's .Net technology, ASP.NET and MS-SQL Server 2000. By web-enabling Q-cost management system, the effectiveness of the system management and utilization was realized by easiness of information integration and economical efficiency.
