  • A synchronous multicarrier (MC) code-division multiple access (CDMA) system using inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) and fast Fourier transform (FFT) for the downlink mobile communication system operating in a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel is analyzed. Both carrier frequency offset and timing offset are considered in the analysis. Bit error rate performance of the system with both equal gain combining and maximum ratio combining are obtained. The performance is compared to that of the conventional system using correlation receiver. It is shown that when subcarrier number is large, the system using IFFT/FFT has nearly the same performance as the conventional one, while when the sub carrier number is small, the system using IFFT/FFT will suffer slightly worse performance in the presence of carrier frequency offset.

  • This paper proposes an alternate time-switched space-frequency block coding transmission technique for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization. There are two antennas in the transmitter but it still has only a baseband and RF and a switch that alternates between the antennas at every symbol timing. Alternating transmit symbols result in zeros which make maximal ratio receive combining possible in the receiver. Simulation results show that it has better performance than the traditional algorithm at the expense of one additional antenna.

  • We can process and compute the position, velocity and time by satellite signals of GPS. The signals are used to compute positioning of three dimensions and timing offset of the receiver clock when we can track the tour satellite signals at least. One of the specified aims is to use less expensive single frequency code/carrier phase GPS receivers, which are typically around half the price of dual frequency receivers. In the study, the author analyzed the accuracy and applicability of frequence linear combination using triangulation points evaluated distance limitation.

  • We demonstrate binary spectral phase coded waveform discrimination at 10 GHz for narrow band optical code-division multiple-access (NB-OCDMA) via direct electrical detection without using any optical hard-limiter. Only 9 phase-locked, 10 GHz spaced, spectral lines within a 100 GHz spectral window are used for the phase coding. Considerably high contrast ratio of 5 between signal and multiuser access interference noise can be achieved for $4{\times}10\;G\;pulse/sec$ timing coordinated OCDMA at a simple electrical receiver with 50 GHz bandwidth.

  • This paper develops a generalized framework for the analysis of multicarrier communication system, using a generic pair of transmitters- and receiver side terraforms, Qτ | QR, such that the DFT-transform based "conventional OFDM" is its special case. This analysis framework is then used to propose and prove theorems on various performance metrics of a multicarrier communication system, which will apply to any system that fits the architecture, which most will do. The analysis framework also derives previously unknown closed-form expressions for these metrics, such as how the performance degradation due to carrier frequency offset or timing synchronization error, amongst others, are function of generic transforms. While extensive work exists on the impact of these challenges on conventional OFDM, how are these functions of transform matrices is unknown in the literature. It will be shown, how the analysis of OFDM based system is special case of analysis in this paper. This paper is Part I of three paper series, where the other two supplements the arguments present here.

  • Precoding of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with Walsh Hadamard transform (WHT) is known in the literature. Instead of performing WHT precoding and inverse discrete Fourier transform separately, a product of two matrix can yield a new matrix that can be applied with lower complexity. This resultant transform, T-transform, results in T-OFDM. This paper extends the limited existing work on T-OFDM significantly by presenting detailed account of its computational complexity, a lower complexity receiver design, an expression for PAPR and its cumulative distribution function (cdf), sensitivity of T-OFDM to timing synchronization errors, and novel analytical expressions signal to noise ratio (SNR) for multiple equalization techniques. Simulation results are presented to show significant improvements in PAPR performance, as well improvement in bit error rate (BER) in Rayleigh fading channel. This paper is Part II of a three-paper series on alternative transforms and many of the concepts and result refer to and stem from results in generalized multicarrier communication (GMC) system presented in Part I of this series.

  • Power grid techniques are distributed over general power systems ranging from power stations to power transmission, power distribution, and users. To monitor and control the elements and performance of a power system in real time in the extensive area of power generation, power transmission, wide-area monitoring (WAM) and control techniques are required (Sattinger et al. 2007). Also, to efficiently operate a power grid, integrated techniques of information and communication technology are required for the application of communication network and relevant equipment, computing, and system control software. WAM should make a precise power grid measurement of more than once per cycle by time synchronization using GPS. By collecting the measurement values of a power grid from substations located at faraway regions through remote communication, the current status of the entire power grid system can be examined. However, for GPS that is used in general national industries, unexpected dangerous situations have occurred due to its deterioration and jamming. Currently, the power grid is based on a synchronization system using GPS. Thus, interruption of the time synchronization system of the power system due to the failure or abnormal condition of GPS would have enormous effects on each field such as economy, security, and the lives of the public due to the destruction of the synchronization system of the national power grid. Developed countries have an emergency substitute system in preparation for this abnormal situation of GPS. Therefore, in Korea, a system that is used to prepare for the interruption of GPS reception should also be established on a long-term basis; but prior to this, it is required that an evaluation technique for the time synchronization performance of a GPS receiver using an atomic clock within the power grid. In this study, a monitoring system of time synchronization based on GPS at a power grid was implemented, and the results were presented.

  • Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) including Global Positioning System (GPS) is an important element for navigation of both the military and civil Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Contrary to the military UAVs, the civil UAVs use the civil signals which are unencrypted, unauthenticated and predictable. Therefore if the civil signals are counterfeited, the civil UAV’s position can be manipulated and the appropriate movement of the civil UAV to the target point is not achieved. In this paper, spoofing on the autonomous navigation UAV is implemented through field experiments. Although the demanded conditions for appropriate spoofing attack exists, satisfying the conditions is restricted in real environments. So, the Way-point of the UAV is assumed to be known for experiments and assessments. Under the circumstances, GPS spoofing signal is generated based on the Software-based GNSS signal generator. The signal is emitted to the target UAV using the antenna of the spoofer and the effect of the signal is analyzed and evaluated. In conclusion, taking the UAV to the target point is hardly feasible. To implement the spoofing as expectation, the position and guidance system of the UAV has to be known. Additionally, the GPS receiver on the UAV could be checked whether it appropriately tracks the spoofing signal or not. However, the effect of the spoofing signal on the autonomous UAV has been verified and assessed through the experimental results. Spoofing signal affects the navigation system of the UAV so that the UAV goes off course or shows an abnormal operation.

  • The Long Range Navigation (LORAN) had been mainly used world-wide until GPS (Global Positioning System) activation. In particular. it was essential junctionality for the ships to sail the oceans. However, according to the industry's developing, the current accuracy of Loran is insufficient for the utilization such as the harbour approach, the land navigation and the field of precise timing. Therefore it is necessary the study on the improvement of the positioning accuracy of Loran. The method of its improvement is to measure and compensate the propagation time delay, that is, additional secondary factor (ASF) between the transmitter and user's receiver. This study shows the technique for the absolute time delay measurement without a time of coincidence (TOC) table, and represents the ASF measurement result between Pohang transmitter station(9930M) and each measure points.
