  • In this paper, we propose the assistance method to enable safe driving through analysis of dangerous driving behavior using real-time alarm by vehicle speed, azimuth data and smartphone. For this method, smartphone is receiving driving data from digital tachograph using communication. Safe driving habit is a very important issue to commercial vehicle because that driver's long time driving than other vehicle type driver. Existing methods are very inefficient to improve immediately dangerous driving habits during driving because proceed driving behavior analysis after the vehicle operation. We propose the new safe driving assistance method that can prevent traffic accidents by real-time and improve the driver's wrong driving habits through real-time dangerous driving behavior analysis and notification the result to the driver. We have confirmed that the method in this paper will help to improve driving habits and can be applied through the proposed method implementation and simulation experiment.

  • The k-Winners-Take-All (kWTA) is an operation to find the largest k (>1) inputs among N inputs. Parallel search algorithm of kWTA for digital inputs is not invented yet, so most of digital kWTA architectures have O(N) time complexity. A parallel search algorithm for digital kWTA operation and the circuits for its VLSI implementation are presented in this paper. The proposed kWTA architecture can compare all inputs simultaneously in parallel. The time complexity of the new architecture is O(logN), so that it is scalable to a large number of digital data. The high-speed kWTA operation and its O(logN) dependency of the new architecture are verified by simulations. It takes 290 ns in searching for 5 winners among 1024 of 32 bit data, which is more than thousands of times faster than existing digital kWTA circuits, as well as existing analog kWTA circuits.

  • This paper describes practical tuning methods and testing of a digital PSS, which uses both frequency and power, with the 220MVA Chungpyung P/P #1 in the KEPCO system to enhance the damping of local modes. In the first step, the objective phase of PSS is computed through a phase leading function to provide compensation between the exciter reference point and the generator air-gap torque before tuning the PSS's time constants. In addition, eigenvalue analysis was used to determine a range of PSS's gain, whichis the more useful for field testing rather than a single gain value. The Real-Time Digital Simulator was used to verify safe operations of the PSS in the presence of disturbances, such as AVR step and three phase fault.

  • TV display which existed only in house started to show up out of house around us and now it found naturally its place in everywhere like street, bus, subway and elevator. It is called digital signage which showed up through digitalization of sign, that is, sign board and bulletin board. The distinction of digital sign from existing signs is that the latter one should go through physical process like removal after installation every time its contents are changed but the former one can produce its various outputs flexibly once it is installed. Also existing sign may be static image or 2 or 3 pieces of image to express simple motion while digital sign can contain multi media contents luxurious in design and motion. This paper confined the range of contents in digital signage in bus and subway. It needs to analyze characteristics of mass transportation-people of use, consumer by place and time, accommodation environment for consumer etc and arrange planned contents along with time and place. Developments of dedicated contents suitable to those digital signages will harmonize with place and time and promote the realm of digital signage which provides variety of experience to consumer and with which communication is possible and which is distinctive. Furthermore we may expect the birth of smart signage as a new media, in which fun and art are combined.

  • In recent years, technological developments have rapidly increased the number of complex structures and equipment in the industrial. Accordingly, the prognostics and health monitoring (PHM) technology has become significant. The safety assessment of industrial sites requires data obtained by installing a number of sensors in the structure. Therefore, digital twin technology, which forms the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is attracting attention in the safety field. The research on digital twin technology of structures subjected to seismic loads has been conducted recently. Hence, this study proposes a digital twin system that estimates the responses and arbitrary load in real time by utilizing the minimum sensor to a pipe that receives a seismic and arbitrary load. To construct the digital twin system, a finite-element model was created considering the dynamic characteristics of the pipe system, and then updating the finite-element model. In addition, the calculation speed was improved using a finite-element model that applied the reduced-order modeling (ROM) technology to achieve real-time performance. The constructed digital twin system successfully and rapidly estimated the load and the point where the sensor was not attached. The accuracy of the constructed digital twin system was verified by comparing the response of the digital twin model with that derived by using the load estimated from the digital twin model as input in the finite-element model.

  • In general, digital signage is a next-generation smart media that provides various information and advertisement services to many people indoors or outdoors using the Internet. Recently, digital signage is rapidly spreading in such a small indoor environment, that is, in an area closely related to daily life, for example, inside an elevator. However, in this kind of indoor environment where the stay time of persons is extremely limited, it would be not easy for them to keep advertisements in the user memory for a long time. In the digital signage display installed in an indoor environment, it is possible to think about the possibility for a function such as expanding the screen to a user's smartphone, which is now widely spread, to contain, store, and use the transmitted content. In this paper, we propose a method to extend the display of digital signage contents to personal smart phones with interaction function in such a limited environment. In order to make the system operation, the proposed system was verified by confirming the result of dual screen implementation in a smart phone through the prototype implementation of a digital signage system in an embedded Linux environment.

  • In this paper, a 12-bit high resolution, power and area efficiency hybrid digital pulse width modulator (DPWM) with process and temperature (PT) calibration has been proposed for digital controlled DC-DC converters. The hybrid structure of DPWM combines a 6-bit differential tapped delay line ring-mux digital-to-time converter (DTC) schema and a 6-bit counter-comparator DTC schema, resulting in a power and area saving solution. Furthermore, since the 6-bit differential delay line ring oscillator serves as the clock to the high 6-bit counter-comparator DTC, a high frequency clock is eliminated, and the power is significantly saved. In order to have a simple delay cell and flexible delay time controllability, a voltage controlled inverter is adopted to build the deferential delay cell, which allows fine-tuning of the delay time. The PT calibration circuit is composed of process and temperature monitors, two 2-bit flash ADCs and a lookup table. The monitor circuits sense the PT (Process and Temperature) variations, and the flash ADC converts the data into a digital code. The complete circuits design has been verified under different corners of CMOS 0.18um process technology node.

  • Digital technology has advanced very significantly over the years both in terms of software tools and hardware available. It is now applied extensively in many area of electrical engineering including protective relaying in power systems. Digital relays based on digital technology have many advantages over the traditional analog relays. The digital relay is able to do what is difficult or impossible in the analog relays. However, the complex algorithms associated with the digital relays are difficult to test and verify in real time on real power systems. Although non real-time simulators like PSCAD/EMTDC are employed to test the algorithms, such simulations have the disadvantage that they cannot test the relay dynamically. Hence, real-time simulators like RTDS are used, but the latter needs large space and it is very expensive. This paper uses EMTP MODELS to simulate the power system and the distance relay. The distance relay algorithm is constructed and the distance relay is interfaced with a test power system. The distance relays performance is then assessed interactively under various fault types, fault distances and fault inception angles. The test results show that we can simulate the distance relay effectively and we can examine the operation of the distance relay very closely including debugging by using EMTP MODELS.

  • As technology related to digital imaging equipment is developed and generalized, digital imaging system is used for various purposes in fields of society. The object tracking technology from digital image data in real time is one of the core technologies required in various fields such as security system and robot system. Among the existing object tracking technologies, cam shift technology is a technique of tracking an object using color information of an object. Recently, digital image data using infrared camera functions are widely used due to various demands of digital image equipment. However, the existing cam shift method can not track objects in image data without color information. Our proposed tracking algorithm tracks the object by analyzing the color if valid color information exists in the digital image data, otherwise it generates the lightness feature information and tracks the object through it. The brightness feature information is generated from the ratio information of the width and the height of the area divided by the brightness. Experimental results shows that our tracking algorithm can track objects in real time not only in general image data including color information but also in image data captured by an infrared camera.
