  • This paper presents an efficient analysis method using time-stepping finite element method for electric machines driven by pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter. In the method, the value of time-step is changed according to the PWM logic of inverter, and the calculation time can be reduced while maintaining analysis accuracy. Using the method, the dynamic characteristics of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) driven by PWM inverter are analyzed.

  • An improved finite element-transfer matrix method is applied to the transient analysis of plates with large displacement under various excitations. In the present method, the transfer of state vectors from left to right in a combined finite element-transfer matrix method is changed into the transfer of generally incremental stiffness equations of every section from left to right. Furthermore, in this method, the propagation of round-off errors occurring in recursive multiplications of transfer and point matrices is avoided. The Newmark-${\beta}$ method is employed for time integration and the modified Newton-Raphson method for equilibrium iteration in each time step. An ITNONDL-W program based on this method using the IBM-PC/AT microcomputer is developed. Finally numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy as well as the potential of the proposed method for dynamic large deflection analysis of plates with random boundaries under various excitations.

  • The technology of Semi-Solid Forging (SSF) has been actively developed to fabricate near-net- shape products using light and hardly formable materials, the SSF process is composed of slug heating, forming, compression holding and ejecting step. After forming step in SSF, the slug is compressed during a certain holding time in order to be completely filled in the die cavity and be accelerated in solidification rate. The compression holding time that can affect mechanical properties and shape of products is important to make decision, where it is necessary to find overall hert transfer coefficeient properly which has large effect on heat transfer between slug and die. This paper presents the procedure to predict compression holding time of octaining the final shaped part with information of temperature and solid fraction for a cylindrical slug at compression hoiding step in closed-die compression process using heat transfer analysis considering latent heat by means of finite element method. The influence of the predicted compression hoiding time on mechanical properties of products is finally investigated by experiment.

  • Many process parameters have an effect on the auto-body panel forming process. A well-designed blank shape causes the material to flow smoothly, reduces the punch and yields a product with uniform thickness distribution. Therefore, the determination of an initial blank shape plays the important role of saving time and cost in the auto-body panel forming process. For these reasons, some approaches to estimate the initial blank shape have been implemented in this paper, the one-step approach by using a finite element inverse method will be introduced to predict the initial blank shape the developed program is applied to auto-body panel forming.

  • The Ranking source panel method was used to predict the flow phenomenon of a ship with a goose-neck type bulbous bow penetrating the free surface. The non-linearity of the free surface boundary condition was fully satisfied using an iterative calculation method, and the raised panel method was adopted to obtain a more stable solution at each iteration step. The panel cutting method was applied to generate a hull calculation grid at each iteration step, including the first step. At that time, the nose of the goose-neck type bulbous bow was divided by the free surface and the free surface panel was modified at each iteration step using the variable free surface panel method. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity and efficiency of the applied numerical algorithm using the 3600 TEU container carrier. The computed wave resistance coefficients were compared with the experimentally achieved residual resistance coefficients.

  • In UMTS terminal modem uses 3 step search procedure for initial cell search, which comprises 1) slot synchronization, 2) code group identification and frame synchronization, and 3) scrambling-code identification. The performance of initial cell search procedure depends on search parameters like observation time and threshold. The purpose of this paper is to get the optimal observation time and threshold of each step for minimum mean acquisition time. In this paper we induce mean detection time of each step and mean acquisition timefrom the model of 3 step search procedure using state diagram. Also we propose initial cell search algorithm which utilize window search method against initial oscillator error, and select an appropriate observation time and threshold of each step by the analysis of simulation and induced result. It is shown that the mean acquisition time in multipath fading channel can be shorter than 500ms by using the determined observation time and threshold of each step.

  • Every purchase a customer makes builds patterns about how products are purchased together. The process of finding these patterns, called market basket analysis, is composed of two steps in the Microsoft Association Algorithm. The first step is to find frequent item-sets. The second step which requires much less time than the first step does is to generate association rules based on frequent item-sets. Even though the first step, finding frequent item-sets, is the core part of market basket analysis, when applied to Online Analytical Processing(OLAP) cubes it always raises several points such as longitudinal analysis becomes impossible and many unpractical transactions are built up. In this paper, a new OLAP cube structures designing method which makes longitudinal analysis be possible and also makes only real customers' purchase patterns be identified is proposed for market basket analysis.

  • In resin transfer molding (RTM) process, preplaced fiber mat is set up in a mold and thermoset resin is injected into the mold. An important interest in RTM process is to minimize cycle time without sacrificing part quality or increasing cost. In this study, the numerical simulation and optimization process in filling stage were conducted in order to determine the optimum gate locations. Control volume finite element method (CVFEM) was used in this numerical analysis with the coordinate transformation method to analyze the complex 3-dimensional structure. Experiments were performed to monitor the flow front to validate simulation results. The results of numerical simulation predicted well the experimental results with every single, simultaneous and sequential injection procedure. We performed the optimization analysis for the sequential injection procedure to minimize fill time. The complex geometry of an automobile bumper core was chosen. Genetic algorithm was used in order to determine the optimum gate locations with regard to 3-step sequential injection case. These results could provide the information of the optimum gate locations in each injection step and could predict fill time and flow front.

  • Since all the poles of the open circuit voltage transfer function of the trigonometric, linear, passive RC circuits exist on the negative real axis of s-plane, its transient response to the unit step input is monotonic. This satisfies the necessary conditions for the applicability of Elmore's method which had been developed originally for the transient analysis of lumped circuit in computing the rise time and delay time of the trigonometric distributed RC circuits. This paper describes the computing method of rise and delay times of the trigonometric distributed RC circuit. The analysis shows that the transient response of this kind circuit depends only upon the time constant and distance angle $\theta$. As $\theta$ is increased, the rise and delay titles are increased non-linearly.

  • In most LMFBR(Liquid Metal Fast Breed Reactor) design, the operating temperature is very high and the time-dependent creep and stress-rupture effects become so important in reactor structural design. Therefore, unlike with conventional PWR, the normal operating conditions can be basically dominant design loading because the hold time at elevated temperature condition is so long and enough to result in severe total creep ratcheting strains during total service lifetime. In this paper, elevated temperature design of the conceptually designed baffle annulus regions of KALIMER(Korea Advanced Liquid MEtal Reactor) reactor internal strictures is carried out for normal operating conditions which have the operating temperature 53$0^{\circ}C$ and the total service lifetime of 30 years. For the elevated temperature design of reactor internal structures, the ASME Code Case N-201-4 is used. Using this code, the time-dependent stress limits, the accumulated total inelastic strain during service lifetime, and the creep-fatigue damages are evaluated with the calculation results by the elastic analysis under conservative assumptions. The application procedures of elevated temperature design of the reactor internal structures using ASME Code Case N-201-4 with the elastic analysis method are described step by step in detail. This paper will be useful guide for actual application of elevated temperature design of various reactor types accounting for creep and stress-rupture effects.
