The present work reports on a numerical simulation of a compartment fire. The fire was modeled using a simplified approach, where combustion is simulated as a volumetric heat release. Computations were performed with the commercial code CFX 5.6. Radiation was modeled with a differential approximation (P1 model), while turbulence effects upon the mean gas flow were dealt with a SST turbulence model. Simulations were carried out using a transient approach, starting at the onset of ignition. Results are provided for the temperature field time evolution, thus allowing a direct comparison with the analytical and experimental data. The high spatial resolution available for the results proved to be of great utility for a more detailed analysis of the thermal impact on the steel structure.
A general solution to the field equations of homogeneous isotropic generalized thermoelastic diffusion with two relaxation times (Green and Lindsay theory) has been obtained using the Fourier transform. Assuming the disturbances to be harmonically time.dependent, the transformed solution is obtained in the frequency domain. The application of a time harmonic concentrated and distributed loads have been considered to show the utility of the solution obtained. The transformed components of displacement, stress, temperature distribution and chemical potential distribution are inverted numerically, using a numerical inversion technique. Effect of diffusion on the resulting expressions have been depicted graphically for Green and Lindsay (G-L) and coupled (C-T) theories of thermoelasticity.
In this work, the model of magneto-thermoelasticity based on memory-dependent derivative (MDD) is applied to a one-dimensional thermal shock problem for a functionally graded half-space whose surface is assumed to be traction free and subjected to an arbitrary thermal loading. The $Lam{\acute{e}}^{\prime}s$ modulii are taken as functions of the vertical distance from the surface of thermoelastic perfect conducting medium in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. Laplace transform and the perturbation techniques are used to derive the solution in the Laplace transform domain. A numerical method is employed for the inversion of the Laplace transforms. The effects of the time-delay on the temperature, stress and displacement distribution for different linear forms of Kernel functions are discussed. Numerical results are represented graphically and discussed.
In this study, micro square heaters having dimensions of $65{\times}65{\mu}m^2$and $100{\times}100{\mu}m^2$ were fabricated and bubble nucleation experiments on the heaters were performed. Bubble nucleation temperature was also measured using a bridge circuit and the photographs of bubble nucleation and subsequent growth were taken by a camera with a flash unit. Measured bubble nucleation temperatures were found to be closer to the superheat limit of working fluid (FC-72). Also quasi-1D analyses for the square heaters were performed. The quasi-1D analysis yielded proper temperature distribution of the square heater at steady state, however failed to predict the temperature rise up to the steady state. Similar time dependent temperature can be obtained with proper value of thermal diffusivity. For the $100{\times}100{\mu}m^2$ square heater, nucleation of several bubbles was observed while only one bubble was observed to be nucleated on $65{\times}65{\mu}m^2$ heater.
In this study, time-dependent distributions of temperature and stresses, in the box-column welded from ultra thick plates with center segregation, has been analyzed by the commercial finite element package SYSWELD+, for several types and angles of groove. The major points of investigation are the optimum type and angle of groove that minimize weld stress specially at the center segregation, as well as temperature distribution, residual stresses and changes in the mechanical properties. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) Generally the thermal cycle at the root of groove exhibits relatively rapid cooling pattern, however, most of the other part weldment have a slow cooling pattern in all groove types. 2) Most of the micro-structures of weldment are composed of ferrite and pearlite, meanwhile we could find martensite and bainite locally a the root of the groove. 3) Optimum groove type for high heat input welding of box-column corner is a double groove type, and the optimum angle for the groove is 30~$45^{\circ}$ that minimize deformation and weld stress at the center segregation.

With all ensuring the fire resistance structure as a method of setting the required cover thickness to fire, the RC is significantly affected from the standpoint of its structural stability that the compressive strength and elastic modulus is reduced by fire. Normally, the degradation of concrete member exposed to fire is largely dependent on the fire scale and fire condition. There is therefore a need to precisely predict the deterioration and fire damage of the exposed member. Thus, this work estimated the temperature distribution inside a member taking into consideration of the thermal properties by means of finite element method(FEM). The estimation results in a little higher prediction value than the experimental value in surface layer and is almost coincident with the experiment as the heating depth increase. From this work it can be known that the simulation application of FEM using the thermal properties of concrete member in high temperature gives rise to the confident prediction in the prediction of temperature distribution.

Collagen type I is the most abundant protein in the human body. It shows viscoelastic behavior, which is what confers tendons with their viscoelastic properties. There are two different temperature setting methods in molecular dynamics simulations, namely rescaling and reassignment. The rescaling method maintains the temperature by scaling the given temperature, while the reassignment method sets the temperature according to a Maxwell distribution at the target temperature. We observed time-dependent behavior when the reassignment method was applied in tensile simulation, but not when the rescaling method was applied. Time-dependent behavior was observed only when the reassignment method was applied or when one side of the collagen molecule was stretched to a greater extent than the other side. As result, the collagen is elongated to 80nm, 100nm, 130nm, and 180nm, respectively, when the collagen is pulled by different velocities, 0.5, 1, 2, and 5 Å/ps, up to 40 Å. The results do not provide a detailed physical explanation, but the phenomena illustrated in this result are important for caution when further simulations are performed.
In this study, the vorticity distribution and the temperature distribution change around a circular cylinder were compared and analyzed with time for constant inlet velocity and periodic inlet velocity. Also, the frequency characteristics of the flow were analyzed by analyzing the time variation of lift and drag and their PSD(power spectral density). In the case of constant inlet velocity, the well known Karman vorticity distribution was shown, and vortices were alternately generated at the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In case of periodic inlet velocity, it was observed that vortex occurred simultaneously in the upper and lower sides of the circular cylinder. In both cases, it was confirmed that the time dependent temperature distribution changes almost the same behavior as the vorticity distribution. For the constant inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is 31.15 Hz, and for the periodic inlet velocity, the vortex flow frequency is equal to the preriodic inlet velocity at 15.57 Hz. The mean surface Nusselt number was 99.6 for the constant inlet velocity and 110.7 for the periodic inlet velocity, which showed 11.1% increase in surface heat transfer.
Electrodeless lamp is famous for its long life. But its reliability is dependent not only on electrodes but also on materials and structures. To evaluate end product's reliability, we studied high temperature durability by $60^{\circ}C$, $75^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ temperature tests, and predicted failure times by an exponential model through regression analysis. However, the test showed that temperature does not affect degradation of electrodeless lamps. Their luminous outputs degrade during the early time of the test (till 250 hours) and then converge to a saturation points. Also, '410nm ~ 530nm' spectrum degrades more than other spectra.

Ground temperature restoration characteristics are the crucial factors to evaluate whether a ground source heat pump system can keep long time steady operation. They are mainly dependent on soil thermal properties, layout of pile group, operation/shutoff ratio, cooling/heating load, thermal imbalance ratio and so on. On the one hand, several types of vertical pile foundation heat exchangers are intercompared to determine the most efficient one by performance test and numerical method. On the other hand, according to the layout of pile group of a practical engineering and running conditions of a GSHP system in Shanghai, the temperature distribution during a period of five years is numerically studied. The numerical results are analyzed and are used to provide some guidance for the design of large-scale GSHP system.
