  • The possibility of heavy metal pollution by contaminated roadside soils was studied under controlled conditions. The soil samples from roadside and those from a retention pond consisting of settling particles were characterized by the XRD analyses and the sequential extraction experiments. Characterization by sequential extraction, for roadside soil indicates elevate total concentrations of heavy metals. The leaching behavior of the samples under different pH and time conditions were also studied. Differences between both types of samples result mainly from the buffering effect of carbonates, present in roadside soils and lacking from settling particles. Acid leaching of the settling particles is equivalent to the sum of FI+FII+FIII, while the amounts leached from roadside soil are lower probably from kinetic reasons. The buffering effects of carbonates were found to greatly delay the onset of the leaching reactions and the extent of dissolution in most metals except for Ca and Mn. The study of leaching kinetics at pH of 6.5 and 5 showed that Cd and Zn reached the maximum possible concentration within 3 days, while Pb did not show any sign of dissolution at both ph values. The absolute amounts of dissolved Cd and Zn increased by 7 to 9 times by decreasing the pH from 6.5 to 5, indicating slightly acidified rain may result in significant metal dissolution. As deduced from both sequential extraction and leaching experiments, the relative mobility of heavy metals is found to be : Mn=Cd>Zn>>Pb>Fe, in spite of large differences in heavy metal contents and localizations.

  • In recent years, attempts have been made to greatly improve the display quality of active-matrix liquid crystal display devices, and many techniques have been proposed to solve such problems as gate signal delay, feed-through voltage and image sticking[1-3]. To improve these problems which are caused by the feed-through voltage, we have evaluated new driving methods to reduce the feed-through voltage. Two level gate-pulse was used for the gate driving of the cst-on-common structure pixels. These gate driving methods offer better feed-through characteristics than conventional simple gate pulse. Optimized step signal will compensate by step pulse time and voltage. The evaluation of the suggested driving methods were performed by using a TFT-LCD array simulator PDAST which can simulate the gate, data and pixel voltages of a certain pixel at any time and at any location on a TFT array. The effect of the new driving method was effectively analyzed.

  • I.G.G is abbreviation for Inert Gas Generator, High temperature in Cargo Tank it desulfurize, exhausted and froze the gas that combined brimstone element and soot, then supply Inert gas by blower, and mack tank inside incombustible range this is equipment that nip in the bud the explosion. The blower for suppling inactivated gas has big impeller with heavy weight to achieve the high pressure, it causes a delay for first operation time and too much load is delivered to motor, total destruction by fire of motor is happening frequently. On this research, we will reduce the size & weight of impeller and install it with several stage, it makes an effect for reducing the first operation time. We also intend to contribute to efficient IGG blower design by research a flowing & pressure specialty from the diameter of impeller, number of blade, and size of casing.

  • In this paper the model was analyzed on performance evaluation for IN facility and we carried out evaluation on it's service performance using this model as an example. We used simulation method and operation analysis method as evaluation technology. As the evaluation results, the case of simulation method was nearly consistent with the case of the operation analysis method and the user-network interaction time had more effect on service performance than delay time of IN facility. We expects that the performance models proposed in this paper is useful when operating, managing and designing IN services in considering service performance.

  • Software-In-the-Loop Simulation(SILS) and Rapid Control Prototyping(RCP) are proposed as an integrated development environment to support the development process from system design to implementation. SILS is an environment used to simulate control systems with temporal behavior. RCP offers seamless phase shift from design to implementation based on automatic code generation. There are several toolsets that support control system design and analysis. A few of these tools generate the control software automatically. However, most of these design toolsets do not cover temporal behavior which appears after implementation. In earlier toolsets, the design and the implementation of a control system are considered as two separate processes which mean the conventional development process is not connected strictly. SILS/RCP environments work under an identical platform and use the same representation for system modeling. An integrated SILS/RCP environment makes it possible to design controllers under conditions similar to real execution during off-line simulation and to realize controllers in the early design phase. SILS/RCP environments integrate the design and implementation phases which reduce the time-to-market and provide greater performance-assured design. The establishment of SILS/RCP and the practical design approaches are presented.

  • Korean (L1)-English (L2) bilingual adults' and children's production of Korean and English stops was examined to determine the age effects and L2 experience on the development of L1 and L2 stop contrasts. Four groups of Seoul Korean speakers (experienced and inexperienced adult and child groups) and two groups of age-matched native English speakers participated. The overall results of voice onset time (VOT) and fundamental frequency (F0) of phrase-initial stops in Korean and word-intial stops in English showed a delay in the acquisition of L1 due to the dominant exposure to L2. Significantly longer VOT and lower F0 for aspirated stops as well as high temporal variability across repetitions of lenis stops were interpreted to indicate a strong effect of English on Korean stop contrasts for bilingual children. That is, the heavy use of VOT for Korean stop contrasts shows bilingual children's attention to the acoustic cue that are primarily employed in the dominant L2. Furthermore, inexperienced children, but not adults, were shown to create new L2 categories that are distinctive from the L1 within 6 months of L2 experience, suggesting greater independence between the two phonological systems. The implications of bilinguals' age at the time of testing to the degree and direction of L1-L2 interaction are further discussed.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mobile phone text messaging on the collision avoidance strategy for an approaching and stationary pedestrian. Method: Eighteen healthy young adults participated in this study. Each participant was asked to perform a task to walking with/without mobile phone text messaging and a task to avoid collisions with another pedestrian who was approaching or stationary during walking. Results: When text messaging with avoidance collision, it showed an early onset time, a larger mediolateral COM trajectory, trunk rotation angle and trunk rotation velocity (p<.05). Also, compared to an approaching pedestrian, when avoiding collision with a stationary pedestrian, it showed a later onset time, a lager avoidance displacement, mediolateral COM trajectory, trunk rotation angle (p<.05). Conclusion: Results suggest that mobile phone text messaging while collision avoidance leads to delay the perception stage and alters the adaptation stage. Consequently, pedestrian executed in an exaggerated avoidance action to create a greater safety margin when attending to mobile phone test messages while avoiding another pedestrian.

  • This paper proposes an analytical model to calculate VoIP (Voice of IP) capacity over wireless LANs with frequent bit errors. Since the traditional analytical models for VoIP capacity have not included the effect of bit errors, simulations ould only evaluate VoIP capacity over erroneous channels. For analytically accurate estimation of VoIP capacity over noisy channels, we extend the conventional model to include the effect of propagation errors, end-to-end delay, voice quality, the waiting time in AP(Access Point). The experiments show that our model predicts the VoIP capacity of a given network within the range from 3% to 9% difference comparing with the simulation results.

  • In this research, the effect of the pressure control of cooperative control system with regenerative brake for a military series hybrid-electric vehicle was studied. A cooperative control system with regenerative brake was developed to maximize regenerative energy from electric traction motors of the vehicle. However, the pressure control method of the system was modified to solve a time delay problem and it deteriorates the performance of the system. A Simulink model including the hybrid-electric components, the cooperative control system with regenerative brake, and the vehicle dynamics was developed and used to find a solution. The regenerative energy ratio with respect to the whole brake energy was increased in this research from less than 60 % to over 80 %.

  • The present study was carried out to assess the basic material properties and thermal behavior of light-weight foamed concrete panel mixed with PCM (Phase Changing Material). To do so, this study fabricated light-weight foamed concrete (1.0kg/m3) in pre-foaming method and mixed it with PCM micro capsule of 1-dodecanol and melamine to examine its physical and thermal properties. The results confirmed strength reinforcement effect by proper replacement ratio of fly-ash, which is an industrial by-product, and PCM. In addition, it found out that PCM-mixed light-weight foamed concrete had time delay and temperature reduction effect within the range of PCM phase transition according to the rise of outdoor temperature. It was also observed that the insulation performance of PCM-mixed light-weight foamed concrete was more dependent upon thickness than PCM replacement ratio.
