Quality Properties of Concrete Using Crushed Sand (부순잔골재를 사용한 콘크리트의 품질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study compares the concrete using natural sand with the concrete using crush sand for the examination for the properties of a concrete. In the fresh concrete, the concrete using crush sand has less of the quantity of consistency, the content of air, and bleeding than the concrete using natural sand, and the concrete using crush sand has faster setting time than the concrete using natural sand. In hardening concrete, the concrete using crush sand has higher compressive strength and tensile strength than the concrete using natural sand because minute particles fill up a gap. Drying shrinkage of the concrete using natural sand is less than the concrete using crush sand.

  • In this study, it is examined the properties of early strength of concrete mixed with polycarboxylate superplasticizer. For this experiment, it is analyzed that the slump and strength properties according to the mixture factors, compared with cements and superplasticizers of each company and curing temperature($15,\;20^{\circ}C$). (1) The slump loss of concrete used polycarboxylate superplasticizer(rapid strength type) showed $0.5\~1.5cm$, it is judged that slump loss according to the time lapse can be minimized. (2) The performance of polycarboxylate superplasticizer kept up consistency and accelerated strength development. it is possible to reveal 12MPa within $18\~20$hours at $20^{\circ}C$ curing, but impossible within 24hours at $15^{\circ}C$. (3) It is necessary to studies about rapid strength development in the low temperature.

  • Since cement is one of materials of concrete and have an important effect upon physical properties of concrete, the quality characteristics of ordinary portland cement in domestic market are evaluated in this study. For this purpose, eight kinds of cement are selected and tested on the specific gravity, normal consistency, setting time, fincness, and compressive strength of cement ranged from 300kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ to 600kg/$\textrm{m}^3$ are tested for each kind of cement. As a result,ordinary portland cement in domestic market are satisfied with physical performance prescribed by KS L 5201(Portland Cement) and when unit weight of cement is 300~600kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, the maximum compressive strength of concrete cylinder is showed to be about 440-540kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • In this paper, the arc beam is considered as a moving disc heat source with a pseudo-Gaussian distribution of heat intensity. The solution for temperature distribution on welds is derived by using the image heat source method and the superposition method. It is general solution in that it can determine the temperature-rise distribution in and around the arc beam heat source, as well as the width and depth of the melt pool (MP) and the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in welding short lengths, where quasi-stationary conditions may not have been established. As a comparative study, the results of this analytical approach has been compared with that of the finite-element modeling. As a result, The theoretical analysis presented here has shown good consistency and is more time/cost-effective method compared with FEM.

  • Optimum injection molding condition for a box mold was searched by the Response Surface Analysis(RSA) with the aid of process monitoring system(PMS). Process variables on the control panel of the injection molding machine such as barrel temperatures, screw speed profile, holding pressures, etc. cannot guarantee the uniformity of the material variables directly related with the state of the product in the mold cavity. In order to make sure the state of the resin in the cavity, pressures and temperatures in the cavity, runner and nozzle were monitored in the experiment with the PMS. To accomplish the consistency of the molding process, dependent variables such as the switchover point and holding time were searched with the PMS. With a proper objective function about deflection of the box-type product, the optimum injection molding condition was obtained.

  • In this paper, we propose a system for efficient use of shared memory between CPU and GPU. The system, called Fusion Architecture, assures consistency of the shared memory and minimizes cache misses that frequently occurs on Heterogeneous System Architecture or Unified Virtual Memory based systems. It also maximizes the performance for memory intensive jobs by efficient allocation of GPU cores. To test between architectures on various scenarios, we introduce the Fusion Architecture Analyzer, which compares OpenMP, OpenCL, CUDA, and the proposed architecture in terms of memory overhead and process time. As a result, Proposed fusion architectures show that the Fusion Architecture runs benchmarks 55% faster and reduces memory overheads by 220% in average.

  • Korean standard industrial/occupational classification has been the basis of producing accurate statistical data related with our industrial structure and distribution of industry and occupation since 1960. But coding over several million records not only requires high cost in the aspects of time and manpower but also has many problems in accuracy and consistency. Therefore, we got to develop the automatic coding system in order to work out these problems of manual coding. This paper shows the structure of our system and the result of experiment over survey data of 2,000 Census.

Consistency of the rapid assessment method for reinforced concrete buildings

  • Determination of earthquake-safety of existing buildings requires a rather long and challenging process both in terms of time and expertise. In order to prevent such a tedious process, rather rapid methods for evaluating buildings were developed. The purpose of these rapid methods is to determine the buildings that have priority in terms of risk and accordingly to minimize the number of buildings to be inspected. In these rapid evaluation methods detailed information and inspection are not required. Among these methods the Canadian Seismic scanning method and the first stage evaluation method included in the principles concerning the determination of risk-bearing buildings promulgated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in Turkey are used in the present study. Within the scope of this study, six reinforced concrete buildings damaged in Van earthquakes in Turkey are selected. The performance scores of these buildings are calculated separately with the mentioned two methods, and then compared. The purpose of the study is to provide information on these two methods and to set forth the relation they have between them in order to manifest the international validity.

  • This experiment was mainly performed with a mechanical treatment using ultrasound. We got the following conclusions : At seven minutes-ultrasonic treatment using nonionic surfactant, yield, brightness and residual ink contents were superior to other treatment, but several strength properties were decreased. On the other hand anionic surfactant was considerably low ink removal efficiency. For ultrasonic treatment using nonionic surfactant, yield and brightness were dropped when temperature was over 4$0^{\circ}C$, but were observed to be insensitive to the pulp consistency and flotation time. In the case of nonionic surfactant, tensile and burst strength were improved when ultrasonic treatment was used comparing to non-treatment, and nonionic surfactant was generally better than anionic surfactant in terms of tensile and burst strength regardless of ultrasound conditions. Several properties were decreased when anionic surfactant was used in comparison with nonionic surfactant except yield, therefore, anionic surfactant. was not proper to be used in this condition.

  • We propose a consistent numerical method for elliptic interface problems with nonhomogeneous jumps. We modify the discontinuous bubble immersed finite element method (DB-IFEM) introduced in (Chang et al. 2011), by adding a consistency term to the bilinear form. We prove optimal error estimates in L2 and energy like norm for this new scheme. One of the important technique in this proof is the Bramble-Hilbert type of interpolation error estimate for discontinuous functions. We believe this is a first time to deal with interpolation error estimate for discontinuous functions. Numerical examples with various interfaces are provided. We observe optimal convergence rates for all the examples, while the performance of early DB-IFEM deteriorates for some examples. Thus, the modification of the bilinear form is meaningful to enhance the performance.
