Analysis of Influential Factors on Ploughing Failure of Footwall Slope (Footwall 비탈면의 ploughing 파괴에 미치는 영향인자 분석)

  • The limit equilibrium method (LEM) is commonly used for slope design and stability analysis because it is easy to simulate slope and requires short calculating time. However, LEM cannot adequately simulate ploughing failure in a footwall slope with a joint set dipping parallel with slope, e.g. bedding joint set. This study performed parametric study to analyze the influence factors on ploughing failure using UDEC which is a commercial two-dimensional DEM (Distinct Element Method)-based numerical program. The influence of joint structure and properties on stability of a footwall slope against ploughing failure was investigated, and the factor of safety was estimated using the shear strength reduction method. It was found that the stability of footwall slope against ploughing failure strongly relies on dip angle of conjugate joint, and the critical bedding joint spacing and the critical length of slab triggering ploughing failure are also affected by dip angle of conjugate joint. The results obtained from this study can be used for effective slope design and construction including reinforcement.

  • Power plants have many components and equipment. It is difficult for operators to know the time of failure or the equipment that fails. Plants incur heavy economic losses due to unexpected failure. The equipment in power plants is constantly monitored by various sensors and instruments. However, prevention of failure is very difficult. Therefore, engineers are developing many types of failure-alarm systems that can detect the abnormal functioning of equipment. Such failure-alarm systems inform only about the abnormal functioning of equipment and do not indicate the cause of failure or the parts that have failed. In this study, we have developed a failure-prediction system that can provide details on the cause of trouble and the maintenance method.

  • Software reliability in the software development process is an important issue. In infinite failure non-homogeneous Poisson process software reliability models, the failure occurrence rates per fault. can be presented constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing pattern. In this paper, the reliability software cost model considering decreasing intensity function was studied in the software product testing process. The decreasing intensity function that can be widely used in the field of reliability using power law process, log-linear processes and Musal-Okumoto process were studied and the parameter estimation method was used for maximum likelihood estimation. In this paper, from the software model analysis, we was compared by applying a software failure interval failure data considering the decreasing intensity function The decreasing intensity function model is also efficient in terms of reliability in the arena of the conservative model can be used as an alternating model can be established. From this paper, the software developers have to consider life distribution by preceding information of the software to classify failure modes which can be gifted to support.

FDVRRP: Router implementation for fast detection and high availability in network failure cases

  • High availability and reliability have been considered promising requirements for the support of seamless network services such as real-time video streaming, gaming, and virtual and augmented reality. Increased availability can be achieved within a local area network with the use of the virtual router redundancy protocol that utilizes backup routers to provide a backup path in the case of a master router failure. However, the network may still lose a large number of packets during a failover owing to a late failure detections and lazy responses. To achieve an efficient failover, we propose the implementation of fast detection with virtual router redundancy protocol (FDVRRP) in which the backup router quickly detects a link failure and immediately serves as the master router. We implemented the FDVRRP using open neutralized network operating system (OpenN2OS), which is an open-source-based network operating system. Based on the failover performance test of OpenN2OS, we verified that the FDVRRP exhibits a very fast failure detection and a failover with low-overhead packets.

  • This paper presents the semi-analytical ice load calculation methods that are useful to simulate the ice-breaking process. Since the semi-analytical methods rely on the previously developed closed form equations or numerical analysis results, the user's exact understanding for the equations must be supported in order to use the methods properly. In this study, various failure modes of ice such as local crushing, in-plane splitting failure, out-of-plane bending failure and radial or circumferential cracking with rotation of the broken ice floe are considered. Based on the presented methods, the fracture modes were evaluated according to the size and thickness of ice. In addition, time series analysis for the ice-breaking process was performed on several ice conditions and the results were analyzed.

  • This paper presents the finite element deformation and failure simulation of a typical Korean high-power reactor vessel under a severe accident characterized by large break loss of coolant (LBLOCA) with in-vessel retention of molten corium through external reactor vessel cooling (IVR-ERVC) conditions. Temperature distributions calculated using Modular Accident Analysis Program Version 5 (MAAP5) as thermal boundary conditions were used, and ABAQUS thermal and structural analyses were performed. After full ablation, the temperature of the inner surface in the thinnest section remained high (920 ℃), but the stress remained relatively low (less than 6 MPa). At the outer surface, the stress was as high as 250 MPa; however, the resulting plastic strain was small owing to the low temperature of 200 ℃. Variations in stress, inelastic strain, and temperature with time in the thinnest section suggest that the plastic and creep strains are saturated owing to stress relaxation, resulting in low cumulative damage. Thus, the lower head of the vessel can maintain its structural integrity under LBLOCA with IVR-ERVC conditions. The sensitivity analysis of internal pressure indicates the occurrence of failure in the thinnest section at an internal pressure >9.6 MPa via local necking followed by failure due to high stresses.

  • With the limited amount of budget and time, it is required to determine the priority of investment when there are a large number of hazardous slopes. In this paper, the Rock Slope Risk Rating System is developed based on the combination of the hazard of failure and the damage potential. By applying the proposed rating system to 253 rock slopes in Korean National Highway, it was possible to determine the priority of investment on road cut slopes.

  • This paper shows two models of the duplex system having a fault tolerant system characteristic used in airplane and railway system. The architecture of these systems is based on Mc68000, and we designed the single system, single duplex system, dual system and dual duplex system to evaluate the system characteristic. We calculate the failure rate of components using MIL-SPEC-2l7F and evaluate the reliability, avaliability, safety and MTTF(Mean Time To Failure) of the designed systems by Markov model. We choose our system depending on the developing system characteristic.

Effect of internal stress on cyclic fatigue failure in .06 taper ProFile (내부 응력이 .06 taper ProFile의 피로 파절에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relation between intentionally induced internal stress and cyclic fatigue failure of .06 taper ProFile. Materials and Methods: Length 25 mm, .06 taper ProFile (Dentsply Maillefer), and size 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 were used in this study. To give the internal stress, the rotary NiTi files were put into the .02 taper, Endo-Training-Bloc (Dentsply Maillefer) until auto-stop by torque controlled motor. Rotary NiTi files were grouped by the number of induced internal stress and randomly distributed among one control group and three experimental groups (n = 10, Stress 0 [control], Stress 1, Stress 2 and Stress 3). For cyclic fatigue measurement, time for separation of the rotary NiTi files was recorded. The fractured surfaces were observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM, SU-70, Hitachi). The time for separation was statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA and post-hoc Scheffe test at 95% level. Results: In .06 taper ProFile size 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40, there were statistically significant difference on time for separation between control group and the other groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In the limitation of this study, cyclic fatigue failure of .06 taper ProFile is influenced by internal stress accumulated in the files.

Estimation of Shelf Life for Propellant KM6 by Using Gamma Process Model (감마과정 모델을 이용한 KM6 추진제의 저장수명 예측)

  • The aim of the study is to investigate the method to estimate a shelf life of KM6 single base propellant by stochastic gamma process model. The state failure level is assumed that the degradation content of stabilizer is below 0.8%. The constant of time dependent shape function and the scale parameter of stationary gamma process are estimated by moment method. The state distribution at each storage time can be shown from probability density function of deterioration. It is estimated that the $B_{10}$ life, a time at which the cumulative failure probability is 10%, is 25 years and the $B_{50}$ life is 36 years from cumulative failure distribution function curve. The $B_{50}$ life can be treated as the average shelf life from the practical viewpoint and the lifetime can be expressed as distribution curve by using stochastic process theory.
