Yield enhancement in semiconductor fabrication is important. It is ideal to prevent all the failures. However, when a failure occurs, it is important to quickly specify the cause stage and take countermeasure. The automatic method of failure pattern extraction from fail bit map provides reduced time to analysis and facilitates yield enhancement. This paper describes the techniques to automatically classifies a failure pattern using a fail bit map, a new simple schema which facilitates the failure analysis.
Software failure time presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing. For data analysis of software reliability model, data scale tools of trend analysis are developed. The methods of trend analysis are arithmetic mean test and Laplace trend test. Trend analysis only offer information of outline content. In this paper, we discuss exponentially weighted moving average chart, in measuring failure time. In control, exponentially weighted moving average chart's uses are efficiency case of analysis with knowing information, Using real software failure time, we are proposed to use exponentially weighted moving average chart and comparative analysis of software failure time.

A thermal cycling test was conducted on a chip resistor solder joint with real-time failure monitoring. In order to study the failure mechanism of the chip resistor solder joint during the test, the resistance between both ends of the resistor was monitored until the occurrence of failure. It was observed that the monitored resistance first fluctuated linearly according to the temperature change. The initial variation in the resistance occurred at the time during the cycle when there was a decrease in temperature. A more significant change in the resistance followed after a certain number of cycles, during the time when there was an increase in the temperature. In order to explain the failure patterns of the solder joint, a mechanism for the solder failure was suggested, and its validity was proved through FE simulations. Based on the explained failure mechanism, it was shown that prognostics for the solder failure can be implemented by monitoring the resistance change in a thermal cycle condition.
Two types of accelerated tests, Water Drop Test (WDT) and Temperature-Humidity-Bias Test (THBT), can be used to evaluate the susceptibility to electrochemical migration (ECM). In the WDT, liquid water is directly applied to a specimen, typically a patterned conductor like a printed circuit board. Time to failure in the WDT typically ranges from several seconds to several minutes. On the other hand, the THBT is conducted under elevated temperature and humidity conditions, allowing for assessment of design and life cycle factors on ECM. THBT is widely recognized as a more suitable method for reliability testing than WDT. In both test methods, localized corrosion can be observed on the anode. Composition of dendrites formed during the WDT is similar to that formed during THBT. However, there is a lack of correlation between the time to failure obtained from WDT and that obtained from THBT. In this study, we investigated the relationship between electrochemical parameters and time to failure obtained from both WDT and THBT. Differences in time to failure can be attributed to actual anode potential obtained in the two tests.

The application of fault tree technique to the analysis of compressor failure is considered. The techniques involve the decomposition of the system into a form of fault tree where certain basic events lead to a specified top event which signifies the total failure of the system. In this paper, fault trees are made by using fault train of screw type air compressor failure. The fault trees are used to obtain minimal cut sets from the modes of system failure and, hence the system failure rate for the top event can be calculated. The method of constructing fault trees and the subsequent estimation of reliability of the system is illustrated through compressor failure. It is proved that FTA is efficient to investigate the compressor failure modes and diagnose system.

In this paper, we study the reliability analysis of a repairable system with two types of failure in which switching failures and reboot delay are considered. Let units in this system be cold standby, and failure rate and repair rate of [type1, type2] components be exponentially distributed. The expressions of reliability characteristics - such as the system reliability and the mean time to system failure MTTF - are derived. We use several cases to graphically analyze the effect of various system parameters on the system reliability and MTTF. We also perform a sensitivity analysis of the reliability characteristics with changes in specific values of the system's parameters.
Fracture behaviors of pipes with local wall thinning are very important for the integrity of nuclear power plant. However, effects of local wall thinning on strength and fracture behaviors of piping system were not well studied. Acoustic emission(AE) has been widely used in various fields because of its extreme sensitivity, dynamic detection ability and location of growing defects. In this study, we investigated failure modes of locally wall thinned pipes and AE signals by bending test. From test results, we could be divided four types of failure modes of ovalization, crack initiation after ovalization, local buckling and crack initiation after local buckling. And fracture behaviors such as elastic region, yielding region, plastic deformation region and crack progress region could be evaluated by AE counts, accumulative counts and time-frequency analysis during bending test. The result of the frequency range is expected to be basic data that can inspect plants in real-time.
Maintenance activities are regarded as a key part of the repairable deteriorating system because they maintain the equipment in good condition. In practice, many maintenance policies are used in engineering fields to reduce unexpected failures and slow down the deterioration of the system. However, in traditional maintenance policies, maintenance activities have often been assumed to be performed at the same time interval, which may result in higher operational costs and more system failures. Thus, this study presents two non-periodic preventive maintenance (PM) policies for repairable deteriorating systems, employing the failure rate of the system as a conditional variable. In the proposed PM models, the failure rate of the system was restored via the failure rate reduction factors after imperfect PM activities. Operational costs were also considered, which increased along with the operating time of the system and the frequency of PM activities to reflect the deterioration process of the system. A numerical example was provided to illustrate the proposed PM policy. The results showed that PM activities performed at a low failure rate threshold slowed down the degradation of the system and thus extended the system lifetime. Moreover, when the operational cost was considered in the proposed maintenance scheme, the system replacement was more cost-effective than frequent PM activities in the severely degraded system.
This study was to compare the major kinematic factors between the success and failure group on performing the back somersault motion in floor exercise. Three gymnasts(height : $167.3{\pm}2.88cm$, age : $22.0{\pm}1.0years$, body weight : $64.4{\pm}2.3kg$) were participated in this study. The kinematic data was recorded at 60Hz with four digital video camera. Two successful motions and failure motions for each subject were selected for three dimensional analysis. 1. Success Trail It was appear that success trail was larger than failure group in projection velocity, but success trail was smaller than failure trail in projection angle. Also it was appear that success trail was longer than failure group in the time required. Hand segment velocity and maximum velocity in success trail were larger than those in failure trail, and this result was increasing the projection velocity and finally increasing the vertical height of center of mass. At the take-off(event 2), flection amount of hip and knee joint angle was contributed to the optimal condition for the take-off and at the peak point, hip and knee joint angle was maximum flexed for reducing the moment of inertia. Also in this point, upper extremities of success trail extended more than those of failure trail. in this base, success trail in upward phase(p3) 2. Failure Trail It was appear that failure trail was smaller than success trail in projection velocity, but failure trail was larger than success trail in projection angle. Also it was appear that failure trail was more short than success trail in the time required. Hand segment velocity and maximum velocity in failure trail were smaller than those in success trail, and this result was reducing the projection velocity and finally reducing the vertical high of center of mass. At the take-off(event 2), flection amount of hip and knee joint angle wasn't contributed to the optimal condition for the take-off and at the peak point, hip and knee joint angle wasn't maximum flexed for reducing the moment of inertia. Also in this point, upper extremities of failure trail didn't extended more than those of success trail.
