  • In this paper, we present a new system, OPTISCOPE SA, especially designed for precise measurement of temporal behavior of LCD displays. We show that gray to gray level response time measurement requires a very sensitive and precise instrument and also that the capacity to measure luminance levels and gamma curve can be useful. Quite often, precise evaluation of LCD response time needs also use of low pass and stop band filters to suppress noise and flicker. Low pass filters affect the results but can be corrected for simple temporal behaviors. For complex temporal behaviors like those observed for overdriven LCDs, we show that direct adjustment of theoretical responses is much more efficient to get a complete picture of the temporal behavior of such displays.

  • In this paper, a high speed distance relay, using a digital signal processor(DSP) is presented. The idea of the protective algorithm is based on the least square method using minimum data window to minimize the relay operating time. A new disign concept for a low-pass filter is proposed. This analog low pass filter has minimum transient response time. The main processor of the relay is TMS320C31. According to a series of real time tests, the proposed protective relay shows reliable and fast operating characteristics.

  • The multistage deformation and stress relaxation were carried out to investigate the strain induced precipitation by torsion tests in the range of 1000~80$0^{\circ}C$, 0.05~5/sec for V-microalloyed steel. The starting temperature and time for the initiation of precipitation were determined by stress relaxation tests. The distribution of precipitates increased, as the strain rate increased and the mean size of precipitates was found to be about 10~30nm. The precipitation starting time$(P_s)$ decreased with increasing strain rate and the amount of pre-strain. The effect of deformation conditions on the no-recrystallization temperature$(T_nr)$ was also determined in the multistage deformation. $T_nr$ Tnr decreased with increasing the strain and strain rate. In the controlled rolling simulation, grain refinement and precipitation hardening effects could be achieved by the alternative large pass strain at the latter half pass stage under the condition of low temperature and high strain rate.

  • This paper proposes the model order reduction with pass band error reduction in the frequency domain of discrete time linear systems. The algorithm is the new method of reduced order model which reduces passband error by changing controllability and observability gramian used with weighted functions. A numerical example shows that this algorithm has lower passband error than balanced w&l and weighted function characteristics in frequency domain.

  • This paper presents a new fast algorithm, rotation-based method (RBM), for the reconstruction of 3 dimensional image for cone beam computerized tomography (CB CT) system. The system used cone beam has less exposure time of radioactivity than fan beam. The Three-Pass Shear Matrices (TPSM) is applied, that has less transcendental functions than the one-pass shear method to decrease a time of calculations in the computer. To evaluate the quality of the 3-D images and the time for the reconstruction of the 3-D images, another 3-D images were reconstructed by the radon transform under the same condition. For the quality of the 3-D images, the images by radon transform was shown little good quality than REM. But for the time for the reconstruction of the 3-D images REM algorithm was 35 times faster than radon transform. This algorithm offered $4{\sim}5$ frames a second. It meant that it will be possible to reconstruct the 3-D dynamic images in real time.

  • In order to distinguish fault electric motors automatically in real time. an intelligent diagnosis technique may be required. This paper presents an automatic fault detection system for electric motors by using their acoustic noises. Time signals of each candidate motor were measured in an anechoic chamber for further analysis. Spectral analysis was first carried out and they showed that two typical types of fault motors could be successfully distinguished in the frequency domain; bearing faults and scratches. Unlike the trend of normal motors that shows only a single dominant peak at around 2000 ㎐, several peaks are bunched together in bearing fault motors. On the other hand, large frequency noises at around 6500 ㎐ are newly arisen in scratchy fault motors. However, the processing time for spectral analysis was rather long for a real time application in production lines. Thus, a number of band-pass filters were used in the time domain instead for a real time application. Before applying filters, the bands of filters were set from the information of spectral analysis. By applying a set of band-pass filters, the RMS values of each filtered signal were calculated, and thus the normal and damaged motors could be successfully distinguished.

  • A real-time, continuous-scale image interpolation method is proposed based on bi-linear interpolation with directionally adaptive low-pass filtering. The proposed algorithm has been optimized for hardware implementation. The original bi-linear interpolation method has blocking artifact. The proposed algorithm solves this problem using directionally adaptive low-pass filtering. It can also solve the severely problem by selection choosing low-pass filter coefficients. Therefore the proposed interpolation algorithm can realize a high-quality image scaler for various imaging systems, such as digital camera, CCTV and digital flat panel display, to name a few.

  • The static and metadynamic recrystallization of non-heat treated medium carbon steel(Fe - 0.45wt.$\%C\;-\;0.6wt.\%Si\;-\;1.2wt.\%Mn\;-\;-0.12wt.\%Cr \;-\;0.1wt.\%V \;-\;0.017wt\%$.Ti) were studied by the torsion test in the strain rate range of 0.05 - 5 $sec^{-1}$, and in the temperature range of $900\;-\;1100\;^{\circ}C$. Interrupted deformation was performed with 2 pass deformation in the pass strain range of $0.25 {\varepsilon}_p(peak strain)\;and\;{\varepsilon}_p$, and in the interpass time range or 0.5 - 100 sec. The dependence or pass strain(${\varepsilon}_i$), strain rate( $\dot{\varepsilon}$ ), temperature(T), and interpass time($t_i$) on static recrystallization (SRX) and metadynamic recrystallization (MDRX) were predicted from the modified Avrami's equations respectively. Comparison of the softening kinetics between SRX and MDRX was indicated that the rate of MDRX was more rapid than that of SRX under the same deformation variables.

  • The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is a good method to estimate spectral density, but the frequency resolution is limited to the sampling window, and thus the precise characteristics of the spectral density for short signals are not clear. To solve the limitation, a multiple band-pass filter was introduced to estimate the precise time course of the spectral density for flash visual evoked potentials (VEPs). Signals were recorded during -200 and 600 ms using balanced noncephalic electrodes, and sampled at 1 K Hz in 12 bits. With 1 Hz and 10 ms resolutions, spectral density was estimated between 10 and 100 Hz. Background powers at the alpha-and beta-bands were high over the posterior scalp, and powers around 200ms were evoked at the same bands over the same region, corresponding to P110 and N165 of VEPs. normalized's spectral density showed evoked powers around 200 ms and suppressed powers following the evoked powers over the posterior scalp. The evoked powers above the 20Hz band were not statistically significant. However, the gamma band was significantly evoked intra-individually; details in the gamma bands were varied among the subjects. Details of spectral density were complicated even for a simple task such as watching flashes; both synchronization and desynchronization occurred with different distributions and different time courses.

  • To implement full automation in pipe welding, it si most important to develop special sensors and their related systems which act like human operator when detecting irregular groove conditions. In this study, an automatic pipe Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) system was proposed to full control pipe welding procedure with intelligent sensor systems. A five-axes manipulator was proposed for welding torch to automatically access to exact welding position when pipe size and welding angle were given. Pool status and torch position were measured by using a weld-pool image monitoring and processing technique in root-pass welding for weld seam tracking and weld pool control. To overcome the intensive arc light, pool image was captured at the instance of short circuit of welding power loop. Captured image was processed to determine weld pool shape. For weld seam tracking, the relative distance of a torch position from the pool center was calculated in the extracted pool shape to move torch just onto the groove center. To control penetration of root pas, gap was calculated in the extracted pool image, and then weld conditions were controlled for obtaining appropriate penetration. welding speed was determined with a fuzzy logic, and welding current and voltage were determined from a data base to correspond to the gap. For automatic fill-pass welding, the function of human operator of real time weld seam control can be substituted by a sensor system. In this study, an arc sensor system was proposed based on a fuzzy control logic. Using the proposed automatic system, root-pass welding of pipe which had gap variation was assured to be appropriately controlled in welding conditions and in torch position by showing sound welding result and good seam tracking capability. Fill-pass welding by the proposed system also showed very successful result by tracking along the offset welding line without any control of human operator.
